- Today’s video takes us on an Omega Seamaster collecting odyssey-the highs, the lows, and why it was my first ever luxury watch. Included in this journey is an unboxing of a timepiece from the brand’s greatest era-a watch that could possibly be my last Seamaster ever. I also share what I consider to be the sweet spot in the Seamaster range, what to look out for, what to avoid, and why I prefer vintage Seamasters to more contemporary offerings.

A massive burst of wonderful nostalgia for me because I was given my first s/s Omega Seamaster for my 21st birthday in 1958, the same year that your Seamaster was made. I destroyed it when I slid down the road under my new 1956 Triumph Tiger 100, which was theoretically slower than the T120 Bonneville, but in the real world the only bike on the road that could beat me on the twisty roads on the eastern outskirts of Melbourne, when their was no Speed Limit was the BSA Gold Star clubman, but that was built for track racing and nothing could beat me in suburban traffic including the Victorian Police.
But that's Yesterday's Fashion, today my daily wear watch, with my business suits, is a very plain solid gold Omega Seamaster. I save my collection of Sports and Diver watches for the weekend.
Thanks for taking me back to the happiest years of my life. Phil.
@TGV don’t you think this guy deserves a reply with this cool story
I can't wait to own an Aqua Terra one day. I think it's the perfect blend of sport, dress, and casual. Nobody can beat Omega when they're at their best!
You won't regret it. They're stunning and go so well with any outfit. I have the blue dial and it's gorgeous
They’re beautiful. I have a blue dial 38.5. They’re better than a datejust in terms of water resistance and anti magnetism (if you get the master coaxial).
I feel the same way about seamaster, everyone marvels at speedmaster. For me “the watch” in Omega is a seamaster.
Wtf u just say.. sad
So for you omega never was on the moon right? In fact no watch brand has been on the moon right?
The seamaster is the watch that attracted me to Omega also!
KATAPAPA. Grab a Snickers dude. We know and respect the history of the Speedmaster. Just to me, the Seamaster is the better watch. Mainly because I live by the ocean, and go on shallow dives. You can’t dive in a Speedy.
@@Sad.YTbruh
Bulova. That is why they call one of them Moon watches.
I am sure Omega was up there too.
As soon as Daniel Craig retires from 007 movies, Hugo is my choice for the roll. Charming, likes watches,British accent, probably looks good wearing a suít....not to mention his smile with those perfect teeth....any Bondgirl would go crazy... now, seriously, great video as always. Technical and always sharing your knowledge on horologycal culture and history. Congratulations!
I like omega much better then rolex. I think these watches feel more modern.
Agreed. Less flashy but still amazing timepieces.
I also prefer Omega over Rolex, but that's mostly because I can't afford Rolex watches.
I sort of like to think of Rolex and Omega like this: Rolex is like a 15 year old Ferrari. Very nice and respectable, carries a certain tone as well (good or bad you decide), classic but doesn't represent much "new".
Omega is like a brand new Audi. Not too flashy, may not turn a lot of heads but has all the bells and whistles and is perfect in every sense of the word.
It’s always a good day when TGV uploads a video. Upwards and onwards!
"Possibly my last Seamaster" Yeah right, who are you trying to convince TGV? Nice try though 😉. I'm looking forward to you doing a livestream again soon
LOL!!! You know me too well,
Thank you Jas, I have some more shows coming up you will be pleased to know.
Best regards,
TGV
Yep. He's not fooling anyone! TGV is an addict like the rest of us.
I think he meant his last Seamaster until August...
I'm here for Hugo being the next James Bond!
LOL, it will be the first time the bad guys win!
Thank you, that would be amazing.
Best regards,
TGV
Nice. I bought a Citori a few years ago when I was learning skeet/trap. The machining and finishing is just artwork. Still not very good at skeet/trap, but I look good while failing.
@@ianbutler1983 It will get better. Once you get past the thinking about it stage you will progress into the muscle memory stage. Then it will seem like magic. Until it doesn't... :-0 Remember this; slow is smooth, smooth is fast. ;-)
Ian Butler Swing through the target, then fire, and follow through. If you stop, you miss. It’s like golf, with guns.
Is Hugo a sexist, misogynist dinosaur?
The classics are called the classics for good reason. They'll always be the best.
I’m very glad Hugo’s still around, and still a “star”! Ah, what, olde boy?
Brilliant intro, love hugo. Havent even finished the video yet and i know it will be great as usual👍
Thank you
I will pass along your regards to him the next visiting time at the slammer ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
My friend, I sympathize - the hunt is everything for me as well. Great to see you doing well and videos are back in vintage top form. Stay safe!
Thank you so much Prnuv, always happy to hear from you.
Stay safe too my friend!
Best regards,
TGV
As a lover of vintage watches, I applaud your choice! That's an amazing watch! I myself is lusting after a bumper with a black dial. and yes there's too many special editions...
Happy to see you in good health my friend the intro was pure class as always best regards to you and the viewers of the urban gentry
Thank you so much William, I hope this finds you in good health too.
Best regards,
TGV
Honestly, it was your videos and delightful content on watchmaking that inspired me to purchase a 2018 Omega Seamaster 300m as my first luxury watch back in January. Your passion on the subject is clear to see, and you're also one of the only two channels I'm subscribed to on UA-cam. Keep up the great work TGV.
I am deeply honored and flattered by your kind words and as for you choice, perfection!
Enjoy it your Seamaster, nothing like it, that first luxury watch and such a classy choice.
Thank you my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
Always enjoy your intro's - bought my Seamaster in the mid 60's. Still keeps excellent time and looks great
60+ years old and STILL running great.......THATS why Omega! My 1965 Seamaster (cal 562-Ref166.002) runs great as well! My “ birth year watch”.Congrats on a very nice Omega find !
Another great review. I can feel the genuine enthusiasm for finding this little gem. So happy to see the old Gentry channel back.
James Bond intro. Monetization claim incoming
Not really, he's improvised it a bit...
@@Inaac2008 You clearly don't realize how fucked the copyright system is.
Ishan Deshpande its the Goldeneye 64 one. Probably won’t be spotted
And top-notch production, as always.
TGV, I haven't seen you this excited about a new purchase in a long time! It's great to see. Beautiful watch and I'm glad you decided to add another Omega to your collection. Long overdue as it's such a phenomenal brand. I have two myself and thinking about a third (even though I know I shouldn't)!
My favourite is the 1965 Seamaster 600. It holds the favourite spot because it was a gift from my dad and he got it for his 21st birthday. Beautiful and simple watch. Still in great condition, not a scratch on it.
YES MORE JAMES BOND VIDEOS!!!!!!! Lol i know its not actually James Bond but the thumbnail is cool
That is a stunning Seamaster. Some of those vintage Omegas can be had at such accessible prices and they are just beautiful. Vintage Rolexes as well, people should be taking a look at 1940s watches. I know they're a bit dicey and delicate, but you can get them for relatively very little.
Congratulations on your new piece! I was looking at Seamasters from this exact era myself because they are such a bargain! I'm glad you made a video on one, might fuel my next purchase! Anyways I hope you wear your new watch in good health and have a wonderful day!
Jude
I bought a 1962 gold capped Seamaster as my birthday year watch - great watch.
Not sure if you’re a gun guy as well as a watch guy, but I know you love Italian stuff thought I’d mention to the gentry that I just picked up a lovely Beretta 686 shotgun! All the best, TGV
Congrats, I adore Beretta, enjoy!
Unfortunately I can not share gun content on UA-cam, oh well, enjoy your new shotgun a little extra for me.
Thank you my friend,
Best regards,
TGV
Ah, a person of great taste! I have a thing for German firearms, Walthers and H&K in particular, the Walther goes great with the seamaster, for obvious reasons 😁 love beretta’s too!
DIY Dad The only HK work I’ve encountered is the rework they did on the L86A2s, but they get my eternal respect for fixing the L86A1 so well
The Urban Gentry I have about five shotguns for different purposes. My Benelli M2 is the best.
@@oklahomahank2378 best for killing, best for intimidation, or best for pulling females? I'm looking to buy a shotgun as I just found out my state doesn't require a background check for shotguns. I want for protection.
I just started looking into all your Seamaster videos because of how much I liked the watch, this is perfect timing
So glad to hear, thank you Kris and happy hunting.
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry No problem man, keep up the great work
I really loved this video. The passion on full display, a little bit waffly, in a good way. The reason I originally subscribed to the channel. Fantastic.
Given a choice between a brand new Omega and a well kept vintage one, for me, it’s vintage hands down.
I will never sell my Bond wave dial midsize from 1999 - I’d pine for it too much. It was always on my mind as a young teenager playing goldeneye and when I finally got it it felt incredible. Go the Seamaster I say!
I'm envious, what a wonderful find. Thanks for sharing !!
Captured a still of "Hugo Bond" and sent it to my dotter (inside joke with us. you'll have to watch Donovan's Reef to understand). She gets a kick out of Hugo's versatility🦖
Hi TGV I really enjoyed your video since thanx to your videos I have such love affair with watches. I have an omega seamaster 1964 model, owned by my mother's uncle, fully restored from Omega customer service after resting for 22 years in a cabinet... I was totally ignorant about watches but now I'm really glad it shines on my wrist after being full serviced in Biel. But there's something else: I did the same with my father's Geneve automatic, that was not functioning after falling into the water of lake of Como in 90's , during an excursion in kayak. My father gave up since repair was too expensive and didn't use it anymore since that time. He passed in 2016 and now I got his watch fully restored on my wrist after full service, that tooked several months. Thanx TGV for transmitting your passion to me! Got my wallet empty But i've never been so happy!
I bought the Omega Seamaster 300m and I got the Sig Sauer P226 for work. The same one James Bond was showing on the train.
This one and your WWII omega with the blued hands are my two favorites of yours.
You were so happy. I hope you’ve kept it and have enjoyed it.
Truly beautiful! It oozes elegance... I now have a new grail. Thank you and stay safe.
Inherited that exact same watch from my father. Massively sentimental piece and I love it. So happy to see you do a video on it. Would love to get w replacement bracelet though... thank you for a great clip
Great intro, Hugo Bond! Great informative video. Very nice vintage Omega. Thank you.
Love the nato! I ordered one to from wrist candy!! My new favorite NATO! Thank you TGV!! Love your work bro!! : ) keep it up!
Who doesn't enjoy tracking down a gem?! I needed to tick the land box in my collection and found an immaculate, full set Tag Heuer Carrera re-edition, CS3110 a few months back. Small but perfectly formed, and never noticed. A real treat of a watch!
Great informative video !!
Congratulations that omega
Is beautiful! Love the dial / patina!!
Thank you so much :D
Very kind of you to say.
Best regards,
TGV
Great video TGV. Congratulations on finding another great bargain. The dial is aging spectacularly! Pure class 👌.
Looking forward to the next one.
Regards,
Koen
Thank you Koen :D
Best regards,
TGV
I love this watch, I bought a similar constellation from the 50s a few months ago. Pie pan dial, gold capped as well and shark teeth indices. Amazing watches for the price
Fantastic video TGV! Funny intro haha!
Love it! Especially on the bracelet, actually! I have an early 60s Seamaster in steel on a beads of rice and it wears like a charm! Keep up the great work and positivity. Best
That was a great find, TGV. Lovely little Seamaster with a perfect amount of love. If only these older classics could talk, what tales they could tell.
Awesome intro "Darling!" Another really informative vid, thanks for the "class" TGV!
Loved that intro TGV.....me I’m saving for a new SMP 300 diver blue waves on a bracelet...... going straight from an Orient Mako USA II to an Omega , I’m trying to be a minimalist
Ouch!!!!!!! What a beauty!!!!!!!!!! I'm completely in love!!!! Congrats, mate!!!
Belo relógio. Parabéns pela aquisição. Ótimo vídeo.
Yes this era is the best ! I can remember at McGill U. In the stacks doing research using old time and Newsweek magazines and seeing these omegas advertised as well as rolex now I marvel how clever and well developed these adds were. Great find !
This is the TGV that I subscribed to so many donkeys ago. This is what you do so well. Brilliant history, model evolution, etc. I learned so much. And yes Japan is a great source of used Omega in top condition
Nice catch there T! I Love all the dress style Seamasters. Good choice! Stuart
Stuart!!!!
Seeing your comment always makes me happy.
Thank you my friend, I hope you and your family are well.
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry Thank you! All the best to your Family too! Always a pleasure! Faithfully

This video made me nostalgic. Got my Seamaster bumber fatlug with a sub second dial at an absolute bargain last year. And thats the most elegant watch in my collection till date. 👌
The Golden Eye Seamaster used to be my grail too! Thanks for another great video!
I could sit back and listen to a play by play call of corn growing in Iowa from you . 😁
Hey TGV,
Thanks to you, I might have a severe addiction to bing watch related videos on UA-cam. Not sure if I feel like fixing it for now 😉
I'm patiently awaiting ure part 2 to the casio a158w lol, excited to see what you think of the A7000.
Hope you and you're family are well too my friend 😁.
TGV, another excelente video, I love Omega , and I think Omega is a great brand today because of what they have accomplished in the past and have been wise enough to use it for today’s purpose
Hello TGV,
My oldest Seamaster is from around 1955: steel case, black dial, Crosshair.
I still have an old Ploprof and a SHOM.
Best wishes
René
that vintage Seamaster line up is stunning all the time. every watch i've seen from that era is just beautifully designed. great find TGV! enjoy :D
Great find!
my lust after omega is the 45.5 Big Blue master chronometer GMT Calibre 8906, it is a work of art, i just wish i had the pocket for it, thanks for your videos they are always entertaining and educational, keep going.
New to your channel. Absolutely loving it! I do hope that you are able to keep doing your unboxings! Would you possibly share which Japanese website that you find some good watch deals? Love the way you described the Omega history, etc. Keep up the good work! ⌚👍
750? Holy .... what a bargain indeed. Love it, please keep it! Beautiful watch.
Greetings TGV always a good time indeed! From what I'm learning, omega has always shown the innovation they can do more than following the hype of what's hot. I think this is consistent with them today. You're new omega is proper what a find; I like the gold capped design.🎯
Very nice video. Keep up the good work.
Your very right about the Omega, I personally think that Omega has been upping their game and the newer ones are very well made. My aqua terra 8500 is a absolutely solid reliable watch.
I’ve got my eye on the Seamaster at the moment 🤞🏼 it should be joining my collection very soon. Another great video TGV, love the fact it’s not all about new watches but vintage too. PS Goldeneye was a great game on the N64, spent many an hour on that in my youth.
That's a gorgeous movement. Congrats! For sure, the thrill of the hunt is as fun as actually owning the watch. Just bought my first Datejust and now my mind is now immediately obsessed with vintage Seiko worldtimers. Never know what you'll get interested in next.
My first seamaster is literally on the way in the mail. 43.5 planet ocean. Thanks you for recommending Moyer Fine Jewelers. Worked out a great price and they made me very comfortable purchasing over the phone and remained in contact with me through the week while the watch was on order from omega. Can't wait to snap it on Wednesday when it arrives.
Lovely video TGV! Enjoy your new piece
what a beauty! Congrats!
So happy you are continuing your video series, TGV! Are you still in Philly, or back in NYC?
Thank you Matt, still in Philly and still loving it! :D
I do miss NYC, mainly my friends and family.
Best regards,
TGV
Cannot beat Omega... Congratulations on the new time piece.. Great video as always sir!! 👍👍 Wearing my SMP 300 today as it happens... Great Stuff!! BMJ ENGLAND 🏴
I hope your well TGV as always a pure class video from the best watch channel. Ive recently bought a Tissot Gentleman which I have decided to call Old Genty
Congrats on the Tissot, such a classy choice!
Thank you Mark for the very kind words, you are a true gent.
Best regards,
TGV
I have my uncle’s Seamaster, circa 1960 with the 562 movement. I replaced the crystal with an original Omega crystal, otherwise the watch is in original condition and I am always amazed how well it keeps time. It is so different than the modern Seamaters as it is a very elegant watch. Great find your 1950s model.
Great content as always 👍
Thank you Jeff :D
Best regards,
TGV
I've to say that this watch (and this area in general) is my favorite from Omega. I do like Constellation too, but they are now a bit expensive and no that easy to find (in a good/very good shape).
Seamasters form this area are timeless. You made such a bargain !
Regards.
Hugo, from France.
The Seamaster is probably my all time favorite watch. I have a 1996 quartz white dial, stainless steel bezel, 36mm version that I got from Japan. It’s in mint condition except the lume is near shot, but it has a beautiful goldish colored patina that stands out beautifully against the white wave dial. I got it for a little under 900 USD. Great video, TGV. Best regards, Mike Z
I have the exact same one in absolute fantastic condition. I picked it up for $250 because the person tried to polish it and spun the stem off. I had to purchase the stem and setting lever spring, but the repair was easy. So, for under $400 I have the exact watch you have!
I love my Seamaster, I own a first gen 42mm Planet Ocean 2500 matte black dial/ black bezel with white tri arabic numerals and it just has such classic Omega diver DNA but yet still modern and much more of an understated tool watch then the newer iterations, this model in my opinion is still the best looking PO and one of the best looking Omega divers, yes I know I'm biased but I'll never get tired of it's timeless looks.
Hey TGV, I'm currently deciding on the JLC Master Ultra Thin Moon and the Glashütte Original Panomaticlunar. What are your thoughts on them?
Panomatic is very nice and unique if you don’t mind the thickness, really thick for that particular type of watch. JLC is more of a subtle watch between the two imo
Love my Seamaster. It was my holy grail watch and I absolutely adore it
How much did he pay for it from 🇯🇵?
It`s a beautiful timepiece TGV, even the original bracelet is in a good condition, well done! Welcome back in the vintage Seamaster-World :)
Greetings
Sebastian
I love to own the chronograph planet ocean with the orange accents. I love that watch. The fact that they put the hour and minute counters on the same subdial is really clever.
Great video, as always, and great coverage of an interesting topic. I've personally owned a Brosnan Chrono, which is indeed a tank of a watch, but I can speak to this from experience. No question that Omega and the Seamaster are legendary, but I feel like they've gotten carried away withe so many limited edition runs of watches. KISS... Keep it Simple Stupid, that's my message to Omega.
Ah great timing on this I just started my automatic watch journey after owning quartz watches forever. I recently visited an omega boutique and had my eyes on a planet ocean. I just love them but I couldn’t pull the trigger on an $8,000 watch but $750 is more like it! If I can find a “vintage” piece from the 90’s onward I’d be happy. Right now the best watch I own is a citizen. Not a bad watch at all it’s great in fact I’ve had it for 7 years and it’s a great daily beater I just want a nice automatic next. Oh and nice benchmade! I think I have more knives than watches 🤣 btw what seller did you get this from on eBay are there any particular sellers that you know are legit?
I also had a citizen as my daily until I got my first luxury watch, the new SMP diver! I am more of a "one watch" type of guy though, and I haven't looked back since. Hope you can share the experience someday!
Im especially into the seamaster as of late because i recently watched all the bond movies. Much love TGV great video!
Hi, I really like your channel and using your advices to start my collection, just a question plz what is the website you are using to buy from Japan ?!
Nice video, thank you, TGV. Omega movement is gorgeous.
Good morning TGV! Perfect watch to celebrate your participation to Project Freefall! Love this vintage Seamasters! Not that I dislike their current incarnations, no not at all. But the thing with those vintage Seamasters is, that I find them quite versatile to dress up or down. On bracelet, leather or NATO, they always look good, similar toba Explorer I. Enjoy and wear it in good health! Best regards!
Hey, I wouldn’t show that tracking number from the eBay page, unless it’s a public P.O. box. Someone may check your address.
Thank you, but it's my office address :D
Best regards,
TGV
Stunning watch with the new bracelet and the worn out dial - Oh man - could see the child like smile on your face !
I am actually a Master at Sea - Ship Captain - Always wanted to buy the Seamaster - Got myself the WHITE DIAL 44 PO seamaster with Liquid Metal Orange Bezel - Lovely lovely watch !! Love ur channel.
I'm eyeing a Seamaster just like your first Seamaster (which will also be my first true luxury watch)! Maybe next summer if things go as they should ;-) By the way I recently got your Urban Gentry limited edition t-shirt and I must say I was very impressed with the quality of the fabric, so soft. Keep it up Tristano!
They were the best watch brand then and are the best watch brand now!!
TGV - firstly, so great to see you on Operation Freefall the other day! Love your enthusiasm for Seamaster. I'm in the market for my first Seamaster professional this year - can't decide between one of the beautiful 2018 ceramic models and the dramatically pricier NTTD model. Either way, I know I'm gonna love it.
Hi TGV
Yes, the hunting is surely half the fun of the hobby. Even when being on a lower budget it just adds another dimension to it all. You start looking at cheaper/older pieces - could be the kind of watches you were looking for as a rookie, but now with a bulk of added experience. You get wiser on what is worth looking for and what is timeless. There’s no end to this hobby - fortunately😆
The classic Seamasters are surely stunning, from when Omega was a slightly expensive watch company, all though still financially within the reach of ordinary people. And surely a company that made high quality products. In my family they didn’t wear Rolex’s, Jeager LeCoutres, Cartier ‘s and so on. But you could wish for a nice Omega for your 40’th birthday, your 25 year anniversary or the like. A watch to rely on for the rest of your life. And they were...
Still remember my Grandads Seamaster from the latter half of the 50’s. Gold capped like this one of yours, but with the “vaffel” dail. I have no idea what happened to that beautiful watch but I’m still hunting one for myself. They are out there, it’s just a matter of finding the perfect one.
Keep up the good work👍
