Not only does it make as much sense as a bumble bee being able to fly but someone actually made one a long time ago, not the sort of thing you could make by accident.
Thanks and grats on your box kite. Its a real show stopper. People can't help but ooh and ahh over it because it is so unusual. And nobody believes it can possibly fly until they see it fly! Have fun :)
Thanks! Have fun with your kite making. It is a fun little hobby. Always amazes me.
I hear you! Making Kites is really a lot of fun. I should do another one like this box kite. And thanks for your idea about using a hot glue gun. It would make things go a lot faster. I am looking forward to spring so I can do more kite projects- YAY!
ur a life saver O_O
i needed to make a kite but i didnt wan to make an ordinary one but a box kite and now i know how! thanks :D
@ElAiNelikeswaffles You are welcome, Have fun, I think box kites are amazing!
The thinnest lightest fabric you can find. Generally you should use plastic or paper. Even newspapers would work.
@FAGchannelCF You do need some wind. Doesn't have to be real strong. Box kites are deceptively easy to fly. You can try using some kind of paper. I think it would work, but might be prone to tearing.
The 14" mark works really well for me. I suggest you try it there and then cut and re-tie it if you need to. I am pretty sure just letting it slide won't work. although you could give it a try. That will be part of the fun! Experimenting with the kite and what works best. !
You are very welcome. The foil color wrapping paper is a great idea. Its going to look fantastic. Keep us posted!
That is so true and so cool. There is a simple beauty to them.
I can't believe that I just found this video of yours. I've followed many of your projects over the years and learned a lot of neat stuff and picked up many good tips from you. I may be 48 years old and have 3 kids but thanks to people like you it's easy to keep that little kid feeling inside and continue expressing that natural creativity that I know we both have as well as share it with others. I've never built a box kite before, but I'm sure I will after watching this. Thanks for turning my chilly winter evening into a sunny summer afternoon !
Dave from Crown Point, Indiana
Dave! Thanks for following me over the years. I love this boxkite project. Amazing how they fly. Have fun:)
@GaaraVSLee19 Actually it does fly very well. The end of the video shows it! It seems like it shouldn't but box kites usually fly very well.
Thanks! Lots more projects coming!
@brettv8 You are so right! This makes as much sense as a bumble bee being able to fly! Yet it does!
I like the straw trick... That is very resourceful. Nice Vid.. Thanks
Thanks for this, especially the straight forward measurements, about to build with my son.
@FAGchannelCF you have to add as little weight as possible. I would skip the gems and ribbons until it flies. Once it flies then you can add some things!
Thanks! I have a lot of interesting projects still to come! Going to be fun! Don't forget about me when you are famous!
good job on the kite! I never weighed mine. Defintely tape on the same edge.
I am pretty sure kite string is what you should stick with. You might be able to use fishing line but I am not sure. You need a pretty strong string that is also very light.
lol! I say that having him run around trying to fly a kite is a great way to tire him out and calm him down :) He will be ready for a nap after that! Gives you some quiet time.
You are welcome, have fun !
Just like any other kite. Have someone hold it up then wind out some of the string and run!!! Its a very easy kite to fly, believe it or not. You don't need much wind.
You possibly could but the added weight might be an issue. Can always try!
Thanks, This was a fun project.
@bsmbahamas I can't exactly remember I think it was around a dollar per dowel at the home depot.
@Hutzpah123 Have Fun! My box kite flies easily. Seems funny that such a peculiar shape actually flies!
Great job! Looks like fun!
THANKS FOR THE VID!!! I had to make one for a class, and this vid was step by step and really helps! thanks again!!
@MrNanoboots Wow, nice idea. I never heard of an octagon kite though. Wondering if it would work. Might be a nice project. thanks
Thanks for the plans.I used square balsa wood dowels, and used tiny nails, and carpenters glue, to attach the sticks then finished with masking tape around all the joints to make it more secure.Next step in a couple of days i will buy some foil color wrapping paper, i think it will fly well and look good and reflective.(hopefully)
@epicfantasy Hi there, have you ever seen a broomstraw kite? You make them by using a sheet of notebook paper and two pieces of a weed that grows in fields and roadsides( I'm not sure of the name, but I hope you know what I'm talking about) You simply criscross the broomstraw diagonally by poking small holes in the paper, and where they cross, poke a small hole for your thread( sewing thread) then give it a try. balance it by stripping some of the straw away. It flies in the lightest breeze.
Thank you for all the details, you are very generous. God bless you
@hulabuloo2509 This design is pretty much like any other kite, as long as you have a fair wind it will stay up.
Great video! Thanks for doing that. My daughter and I are going to test your design out today!
Very cool, I'm making one now with your video. Thanks for the vid. Saturday chilling in my garage.
You are welcome. And good job!
Thank you soo much I used it for my school's project, got an A :D
This is so great! I already made one of your diamond kites and it worked perfectly! I am still in progress of making it though.
@789Moonsinner That's right, no tail is needed.
@Sakura9iure hmm, Twisted box kite? never heard of it but it sure sounds interesting!
@aquazkoi Got any pics? I will take a look. And, how was the wind? Might try a windier day!
that would look really cool with aluminum foil wrapped over the plastic with a few colored leds, and fly it at night I could see people with there cell phone cameras now thinking it's a ufo lol... very nice job you did thank you
@pieman2002 Sounds like a great idea for adding designs to a box kite. I don't however know of any techniques! Send me a pic of your kite when its done!
@nimrah1020 Good luck with your kite. The sticks are called dowels. You can buy them at any hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot. They have them at arts and crafts stores too like Michaels,
Pretty cool ideas, Very helpful. Thank you for uploading this.
Amazing isn't it? Doesn't look like it will fly but it sure does! Beats me as to the aero dynamics of it. Never seen a plane shaped like this.
🔴 What Is Islam?
🔴 Islam is not just another religion.
🔵 It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham.
🔴 Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God.
🔵 It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone.
🔴 It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine.
🌍 The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as:
📖 { “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4) 📚
🔴 Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus.
🔵 Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him.
Good luck! I believe you can use paper. but i haven't tried it yet.
@FAGchannelCF yes, good luck!
thanks for the advice- now we can't find kite string anywhere- is there possibly anything else we could use like sewing string perhaps? our other friend used that and it worked! also we'll show you another vid we made on another box kite we made this time its like yours and please check it out. thanks
me and my friend are working on it on sunday- can we paint pictures on it and what paint do we use on the plastic? (most suitable)- also , will it still fly if we add ribbons, gems and material roses on it? for the string part our friend used so=ewing string- will that work too? thanks!
can we use something other than plastic and how strong do the winds have to be?
can we use something else to wrap it instead of plastic? it looks kind of plain
we used bamboo skewers this time- will it still work?
Thanks for these videos they are great!!!
I'm doing this for a school project! but i'm scared it wot fly ! could we use plastic and then paint pictures on it - will that still fly?
cool! Must be thin cloth though.
I like your enthusiasm sir.
A few days ago I made the kite according to your instructions. I tried flying it by myself (it's an individual project), so I had to run to get it in the air. The odd thing was that it would not stay in one spot-- it flailed all around the sky and slammed into the ground, breaking (at least the cross pieces gave in). Do you know why this happened? Is it because I used 12'' wide plastic? I followed all of your specifications except that. And I used Glad food wrap.
what would be a good fabric to make a box kite because i have to make one for school
Yes, you probably could. Bamboo is pretty light.
can you do a video on how to get this kite up in the air. im having trouble getting in the air and i followed and used the same materials as you.
i was wondering if i could shave bamboo and use it to make the box kite
how long does this design usually stay up in the air?
grats on completing the project but hmmm.. sounds like something was out of balance.
would it work if i make 2 box kites and stack them (with tape)?
what paint could we use on the plastic? Thanks
I used this video for a school project. Thanks a lot! It was very easy to follow and I had fun making it. I have one question though. Do you know how much your kite weighed when it was done? I just want to have an idea as to how much it should weigh. Also, when taping both plastic sheets to the dowels, do they need to be on the same 36 inch edge? Thanks again and please respond.
Awesome!
I'm going to fly mines now
enjoyed it
Can't I use straws instead of bamboo
thnk u sir... good n clean tutorial:)
What city is that park in at the end there?
The box kite is great
My son and I are working on his school project. For decoration we are going to cut up plastic party table cloth. Lego Star Wars!
What Are The Sticks Called ?
So this Box Kite does NOT need a TAIL right?
How do you launch the box kite?
very good.
bsmbahamas
how much does the dowels cost
I tried to build this...but one side of it was slightly inaccurate in length, and it won't fly. I was doing this for a school project, so it could turn out badly.
However, it's still a unique project to do, and my teacher is fond of me and strange ideas. So as long as I research the history and all I should be okay...
Love it, but how did you manage to get the audio to be so bad?
it was 12 years ago
i live at a tropical country ,would it still fly?
winds at our country are not that strong
oh boohoo :(
how do you do that
Could I have more than 2 cross pieces?
Does anyone know how to make a twisted box kite? I've already made the normal box kite =3
hmm, keep trying!
by the way cloth works too!
how to make twisted Box kite pls.....do
what sticks did they used?
same problem here
Pueblo wooden dowel u can get it @ hardware shops,or u could also use split bamboo :)
why is every video only in 240p? come on a go pro shoots 1080p and its only like 250 bucks
i used bamboo sticks for lighter weigt
very clever however I dont think its smart to fly a kite in a storm?....
I am working hard on the paper box kite
