Nowadays all battles are pre-written.. back in the day guys who went overboard with the pre-rehearsed shit didn’t get any love.. that’s why guys like MC Jin and eyedea went far in the battle scene and were respected.. they could go straight off the dome and were quick witted, even if they messed up a few bars here and there. Eyedea’s battle with E-Dub perfectly exemplifies this. Eyedea kicked some decent lines but nothing too crazy, but he went off the top and it felt authentic. E-Dub on the other hand spit an entire pre-written verse which was objectively better than what eyedea said but it was so pre-rehearsed he was saying things which were so vague and irrelevant to the actual battle. It came across as bland and he got no respect at all.
Immortal technique was a trainwreck because he was focused too much on punchlines and less on actual flow and that's why his freestyle was lost on a lot of people because it was obvious before this battle he went and wrote down as many disses as he could without even thinking how they would sound in a legitimate beat. It's as if he didn't even care to attempt to rap in beat. Smh it was horrendous.
