Search for open water in cold January Sweden. Outdoor backcountry skiing beside a creek, river.

It is difficult to be a paddler where we live in Sweden. Subzero temperatures mean that almost all water freezes and during the winter we and other paddlers look for open water so we can sup paddle boarding and kayaking. We ski along the river Högboån and see if it is possible to paddle.

Amazing to think you are only 300 miles north of Ireland but you have -25 & we have +7C. I love paddling but sometimes it's just not worth it.

Yes not so long with 300 miles. Today it’s -5C and it’s getting warmer.🙌
