  • It’s been 34 years now since the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law. For some towns, getting into compliance has been slow going.
Butte-Silver Bow has been behind for decades but is now working to accelerate the process to compliance.
Thanks to funding approved by the Council of Commissioners, the city-county is working on a transition plan that will provide a blueprint to compliance. The process began this week with an accessibility audit of government owned buildings and parks by the WT Group.
“For toe clearance you need 17 inches deep, so this will meet that where some of these others probably won’t meet those dimensions,” said Brett Gordon, accessibility specialist with the WT Group, while auditing the picnic benches under a pavilion at Foreman’s Park.

Great report. I've been hoping for this for some time here in Butte.
Additionally, I'd like to address a really big problem in Butte with HANDICAPED PARKING VIOLATIONS. Yes, in all CAPS, ad I call regularly to have violators fined HOWEVER, I have yet to see a violator pay. I'd this code was actually enforced, the Bute-Silverbow might actually get some revenue and make violators STOP PARKING IN HANDICAP SPOTS.
I say this as a 100 % Disabled, Army Combat Veteran of 22.5 years and Multiple Deployments.
Plus it will keep ME from having to to People that they are Bad Human Beings all the time.
Thanks. Please pass this on the the Officials that wish to be Reelected....
