It wasn’t a giant masterpiece like some people expected it to be from pixar so some people thought it was a failure. I disagree so much with that statement. It has its own special moments, showing that being different from others (like the fishing father’s handicap with lacking an arm) isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s also a very lighthearted movie (for the most part) that focuses more on the excitement and awe that comes with discovering new places.
It’s not a masterpiece or groundbreaking but it definitely was one of the most enjoyable movies I have watched in a long time and that’s the most important part.

I both agree and disagree, older animated movies had more realistic bodyshapes and suddle colors, but all animated movies today have cartoony bodies and vibrant colors. Take the croods and httyd, the first movies looked kinda realistic, but now in the sequels the colors and bodies look so different. Toothless' face is cartoony, and the big cat Chunky doesn't look the same (with a cleaner looking fur and plastic looking teeth). Tho Luca looks amazing, I wish not every animated movie had the same animation style

I just realized that the reason maybe that the parents are so opposed to Luca going to the surface is maybe because that were kids during the 1940s when ww2 was happening so mines and u boats and battle ships would be patrolling and would leave a bad taste in there mouth and that also explains why the grand parents of Luca are not afraid of the surface as they were kids during the 1910 20s before WW2. @@Eclipsesilk wait what. That makes ZERO sense.
There are few correction to do in this video:
1) the name "Portorosso" stand for a mix of "Monterosso" and "Portovenere", the real italian locations (in Liguria) that inspired the atmospheres of the little town in the movie;
Instead "porco rosso" stands for "red pig", during the WW2 comunists and partigiani were insulted by fascists with this name "porco rosso" that means "comunist pig" because the red colour was the symbol of comunists (like the URSS flag or the chinese one). IMHO porco rosso and porto rosso are just similar name and are not related, nothing more. Porco rosso is a ghibli film that speak about the fascism, it has nothing in common with Luca.
2) the boat name in "Gelsomina" is a reference to a Fellini"s muse "gelsomina" a.k.a. Giulietta Masina (Fellini is one of the most important regist in the italian cinema history)(in fact the also the girl's name in the film is Giulia);
3) The cat Machiavelli is a real and existent famous cat in the port of Genoa and its truel name is Seppia (check the facebook page of the cat Seppia, it is the mascotte of the port),
4) BONUS: Massimo and Giulia's surname is Marcovaldo: that's a reference to "Marcovaldo" a famous character in Italo Calvino's Novel "Le stagioni in città": in fact the name of the central square of porto rosso is indeed "Piazza Calvino".
P.s.: forgive me for my bad English. Be merciful please.

This film is absolutely beautiful for it's depth.
There were several moments in this film's rising actions that I thought I knew what was coming, or a cliche to be expected..
I was dead wrong.
Alberto dropping the umbrella and getting caught, Giulia's father's reaction to seeing the boys as monsters, both really caught me off guard and hit a few emotional cords.
Pixar has been knocking it out of the park with their films and the trend is still going on strong.
In the last 10 years I can easily say that Pixar has remained well above anything Disney has produced.
For me, Pixar is pushing out the Disney magic I remember as a kid.
I'd recommend Luca to anyone and everyone. 💯
Horrible ending. Ruined the movie. Terrible message, they say school is most important when its not lmao? Alberto is like his brother u can tell in the end he needed Luca, his family he left them for good just for school lmao??? So irrelevant he can study at the local library if he wants to learn abt thd world he is a sea monster he can survive underwater he doesnt need a education. Giulia's dad adopted Alberto so Luca should of stayed with Alberto and spent the days on the surface together and evenings underwater with his family. And the dad just started caring and his son is gone? They should of spread the message that family is most important not school bc for my peoples lives u can make a completely proper living without education but no he threw away his family for nothing. Alberto deserves better
@@gt-tt8px The message was not that school is most important it was the part of Lucas dream to learn about the world hence why he even went to the surface world. Albertos and Lucas goals became entirely different dude they had a fight because of it remember? My god dude the whole point of a coming of age story is to eventually branch AWAY from your parents to become a true individual. You've misunderstood the goals and drive the characters had in the movie.
@@calebnelson58 bro Luca is like 12 he still needs his family n ik I was just salty cuz I like their friendship and misunderstood thinking Luca won't come back but now I get he just leaving for the school year
@@gt-tt8px But he wanted an education and he wanted to learn more about the world and what's in it, hence his interest when Giulia talks about when she's in school and why he tells her to bring him back books to read. You can't possibly compare the education you'd get at a local library to one you get at a school. And Alberto doesn't need Luca, they made that pretty clear at the end of the movie. Alberto's father left him, and ultimately Alberto got what he wanted - a father figure with Giulia's dad who could spend his time helping out and learning from. Luca didn't share the same desire. His family also supported him going to school and literally everyone is happy with what happened as shown by the pictures in the credits.
And Luca still does have family. Giulia and her mother. Family doesn't need to be genetic, and he keeps in contact with his parents and Alberto so I don't see the problem. And as the other commenter said, the goals of both of them differ wildly. As I've mentioned, Luca is very interested in learning more about the world, and you can see Alberto turn down Luca whenever Luca displays interest in schooling or education, it's just not for Alberto. Alberto is the one who wanted and needed the stable family life and he got that now that he's with Giulia's father and I'm sure he spends time with Luca's parents as well.
I suggest you re-watch the movie, especially the scenes towards the end

Alberto is a 100 % my favorite character in this movie.
my fav character is that one fish. such a mood.
The cat is the real MVP tho
His character development was the best. Made me cry when he was betrayed by his friends, when he was willing to sacrifice his dreams for the sake of his friend's happiness.
His ego, as well as his fear of being abandoned and alone got the best of him. But man, in the end, he still managed to sacrifice himself for the happiness of his friends.
Sorry for the bad grammar, auto correct
Yeah ikr. And idc if I'm replying late. If it wasn't for Alberto, Luca wouldn't have seen the world, nor go to school. Alberto showed him a side of passion of him that he never knew he had. He wouldn't have discovered his love for stars/astrology if it wasn't for HIM. And sure, Alberto can be impulsive, senseless, and jealous sometimes, but let's be honest, he is the most realistic character in the entire movie. I'm so glad he changed and the end and sacrificed his dreams for Luca to go to school. And who knows, Luca might be a scientist for stars and make a good living for himself. Anything good Luca will do later in his life is because of Alberto, just because he encouraged him to get out of the sea and explore life. Luca should be extremely thankful that he met Alberto because he found himself. And I will forever appreciate Alberto for what he did. All thanks goes to Alberto.
Luca is the first pixar film since inside out I really want a sequel for like when luca and Alberto are a bit older I think it'd be great
“All Alberto wanted was to be wanted” 😔
It’s funny how people were saying this was gay and when certain members of the lgbtq were saying people were just mad cause it was but when the director confirmed it wasn’t they went silent.
Men can be close friends without it being gay.
Luca is like alberto's little bro.
Death of the author trope - anything that's not made clear in the material itself, and is only said by the director and crew after the product is released, can be discarded. So the director saying something which isn't obvious in the movie can be shrugged off.

The name Portorosso is very similar to Monterosso a town that is in the exact same zone and is almost the same as Portorosso
That's kinda wrong dude 😅
@@giovannigaleazzo9440 yeah it's a portmanteau of Portovenere and Monterosso, two different Italian towns.
It's not portorosso, it's portorosa.
@@lauragoreni3020 no it's not. The people who made the movie have already publicly said the name comes from mixing two different town names together.
the end caught me off guard. “and remember daddy loves you” made me shook, but it was fine xD
What do you mean haha where is this part?
@@pengyedAt the end of this video like right before the video fully ends
this movie was literally a vespa ad
Don't let this comment distract you from the fact that democracy has proven itself to be a complete and utter failure. Throughout history, democracy has ruined thousands of lives due to it's corruptible nature. Democracy may pretend to be a fair and equal system of government but that is all a lie. Look at some of the democratic nations of the world. Look at the USA, a tyrannical and unstable nation with a population that has been divided due to stupid political parties. What about Libya? Libya tried to be a fair and equal nation under democracy, and dissolved into a chaotic mess. As a matter of fact, the original democratic system in Athens was completely based on privilege. When democracy was first created, you could only vote if you were a rich man. Ever since it's inception, democracy has always been corrupt. The system of democracy is an evil thing and all members of a Senate/Parliament/Congress should be executed for irreversibly fucking up the planet
Well, I’d say a super bowl Vespa ad because this movie was pretty nice

I'm italian and watching an entire Pixar movie based on my country was very Cool! Btw Vespa means wasp and It was a very popular vehicle lots of time ago here.. like in the '90s
I think I know that the last Easter egg is the fact Luca can turn into a sea monster when water touch him and when the girl gets exited she turns into a red panda 🤔
😅😅😅😝😝😝😂😂😂
excited*
Omg how? I never knew that thank for information

While watching, this gave me a lot of Totoro & Sprited away vibes.
Pretty cool to have it confirmed that Luca got inspired by such films.
I love this movie. It has so much to say. You need to be yourself. People can look different, but variety is the spice of life. Acceptance starts with you and some people may follow your example.
Love your videos
(SPOLIER COMMENT)
dam i watched this when it came out and when Luca posed as a human and ratted out Alberto like that calling a sea monster my heart dropped.
Thx for trying not to spoil it for others
5:51 Shows a photo of & mentions the Loser's Club yet completely forgets the fact Alberto is voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer who was Eddie in IT.
lmao the only thing he referenced to IT was a redhead in a club
Good breakdown, didn’t realized about those Easter Eggs when I watched the movie :)
great video!
Adding to this video, while Luca and Alberto are building and testing their Vespas in the montage, an Italian song can be heard called Il gatto e la volpe, which is a song about Pinocchio meeting the fox and the cat, and how the shady business owners trick Pinocchio into trusting them. Pixar could have used this song as a nod to Disney’s film, Pinocchio.
I have a little cousin named Luca. He says it’s his movie.
Cool me too
Thats cute

Massimo is probably my favorite Disney/Pixar character now.
I wish I had one friend like this, I cry every time at the ending so happy, yet so sad all in one
Honestly Luca feels like a really nice looking glass of Orange Juice.
Yea that’s about right
Exactlyyy it was such a refreshing movie from Pixar
i have never been so confused and yet completely agreed with something so much in my entire life. thankyou.
Cool and calm. Nothing completely crazy, but refreshing and timeless.
The line the grandma said broke me, as a queer person it hit different.
Exactly and the way it was phrased was just perfect 😭

Just the fact that he knows all this knowledge on this one Pixar film is amazing, great job on the video!
Literally the best movie ever made. Everything about it was perfect
This beautiful movie deserves a Best Picture nomination
Wow you really good at explaining and do Easter egg of luca
Nice video dude
That was so sad to see them leave
When I finished Luca I was so confused about the ending. The whole time the people were afraid of them and hunting them.
And then, out of blue suddenly finds out there's bunch of the monsters in their town, right in from of their eyes and everyone is so okay with that?
WHAT?!
that’s so crazy it’s like we’re going through that in society rn 😐
When the strongest man in the village, the one most publicly dedicated to hunting sea monsters, steps up and defends sea monsters? People acknowledge that, and recognise that obviously if Captain Sea Monster Hunter is willing to *defend* sea monsters, that obviously they arent the monsters they were led believe.
Not dissimilar to a lot of marginalised groups in modern society tbh.
I think is because many people in town see the effort of luca or alberto(sort of) when they practice for the race, they also the one who dare to step out against the bad guy. So when the fisherman father (i forgot his name) said the two sea monster is actually luca and alberto. People realise the sea monster is actually no different than human themselves. Also i think because as the father always be seen as the main figure for hunting the sea monster. When the hunter see him protect the sea monster. They may think the sea monster is important for him, his impression towards sea monster is wrong
I just watched this wow... Cool vid
The final Easter egg was actually Gulia’s hair, evidenced by looking at the same hair texture
He doesn’t move away from Alberto he goes to school and then in the summer he goes back to Alberto. Plus in the film juleta says she goes with her father in the summer
this might be an Easter egg, but when luca was imagining going out to the surface but he couldnt get out the person on the boat looked like alberto's human form
it did! i thought it was him too.
His humor is fun and I like to watch lmao so I subscribed 😘
The Easter egg for “Turning Red” is like how Luca turns into a sea creature when he gets wet, but the when the girl gets happy she turns into a Panda.
Wjat girl
I loved this movie. And I'm ready to see what we get from "Turning Red"
Sraam
The ending made me tear up Alberto gave up his dreams so Luca can conquer his
@Oghost King yeah I know
5:52 and the fact that Jack Grazer (Alberto) plays in IT 😅
This is entertaining
The ending clip when Luca left Alberto hit me hard, soon, I will relate to that 😢
I set my alarm at 3am to watch it and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved it. Maybe because I’m a gay man and it spoke to me on a deep emotional and very real level. Like from a very young age, having to hide my true self and do whatever I could to blend in because of the hatred some people have for people like me.. definitely hit close to home. By the end I was bawling lol. Especially when the grandma says “some people will never accept him.. but some will.. and he has a way of finding the good ones” .. I broke down. So beautiful.
And the relationship between Luca and Alberto was soooo sweet.
I just know conservative moms like the gross women in the “One Million Moms” cult are already boycotting Disney because “Luca is supporting the gay agenda” lmfao
Even without the deeper meaning it’s just a damn good movie. Def one of my fave Disney x Pixar movies to date.
FYI not all conservative people feel that way. One of my friends came out to me and it’s a moment I will treasure for the rest of my life. He knew the the foundation of our friendship was strong and he was comfortable enough to come out. I 100% support him and all I want is for him to be happy. So please know that not all conservative people are like that woman.
Wait.. are you me?? Haha. No, but seriously I relate to everything you just said. Even down to the whole setting my alarm to wake up early and watch it thing! Loved Luca and the fact that I, and others, could relate to it.
Did you watch one of Pixar’s SparkShorts “Out”?
I think you would like that one, even though it’s “supposedly” banned in Russia.
The queer subtext in this movie was wonderful, even if I was reading too much into it- it still made me feel seen. Happy Pride Month BTW 🌈🌈🌈
Wow it's a gay, gasp
i just watched this yesterday it has a great storyline!
This movie made me cry like a baby. It strung a chord in me like no other movie.
It will always have a special place in my heart.
