  • Even though our bees didn't make it through the winter, they still supplied us with over a gallon of honey. Our new bees will be here in a few weeks, we will try again.

I did this my 2nd year after my bees absconded and had lots of bur comb all over the frames. What I did was put it in the oven on the lowest setting for a couple of hours and then shut the oven off and let it completely cool. I was then able to remove all the wax in one effort with no wax in the honey.

Interesting process. Looks like you got a ton of honey there.

Use a stick with a screw in the center over the pot to hold the frame on. I mark where the stick sits on the pot cut notches in to make it steady.

You should use a screen sieve ( I call them strainers) that would make it so much easier to separate wax from honey. That way it is faster and you wouldn't need to heat it. You use cheesecloth when putting it into the jars so why not use the sieve to drain the honey you scrape from the frames. Work smart not hard is my motto.

How long did you heat it up and at what temp, I just came back from Africa with some and I’m needing to separate the wax from my honey but I don’t want you over cook it

So the wax will not mix with the honey? I want to melt the comb that broke from the honey frames to use to wax plastic foundations.

I use camping mats to insulate my hives in winter.

Have you looked into Electro Magnetic Frequency radiation to at least be a factor in your Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD)? Do you live anywhere near a cell tower? This causes major health issues for people and the research is coming in that it may greatly effect our bee populations.

Why did the bees perish? it wasn't because they were missing a gallon of honey, was it? Do you know the cause i.e. bear attack, hive beetle?

We think they froze. Where we live hives generally have a 50% chance of surviving rhe winter. We took the honey in the spring, after the hive had already died.
