For all the negative Nancie’s here. I’ve had my MSR Guardian since 2016. I have used it backpacking on 7 day trips and shorter, hunting, fishing, wildfire firefighting deployments, car camping, etc. Never had an issue whatsoever. I over tightened a Nalgene to it and the gasket leaked slightly so I loosened it up and it was perfect again. I have never gotten sick either. I trust this filter with my guts!! I’ll gladly pay the premium price to keep from getting sick, especially many miles from help. People that are breaking things need to slow down. Sitting on a beautiful river while filtering the water from it is amazing! Makes you slow down and appreciate life!! Amazing filter! Someone here said they need to add a carbon filter. I agree. Some water tastes bad but sometimes it is what it is.
Good review that covers it all. I have had mine for several years and I have never gotten sick. I TOTALLY agree with keeping the spare parts kit with it, last year I had to replace at least one gasket.
has MSR - with this Guardian - resolved the faulty workmanship issues with the pumping mechanism? In the last 4 years there has been a huge amount of negative feedback of people reporting leaks and faulty pump failures...many of these happening after only processing < 500 litres of water!
@@Sportsmans_Warehouse the Grayl does not "filter" those additional chemicals. It uses activated carbon/charcoal just like every household filter to do so, which loses its effectiveness over time. You can add a charcoal canister to any filter system and achieve the same thing.
Reviews by businesses that sell the product are always suspect. For years now I have seen negative reviews due to pump malfunction so MSR has definitely not resolved this issue.
