Dimash was a guest at this professional competition and he was the youngest ever to compete. At the end of this performance, you could have heard a pin drop even with the 500 judges there. They were all blown away. This was The song that launched Dimash into global stardom. After this performance, ( which continued for months) Dimash came out of his hotel room the next morning, he got surrounded by 18 police/security officers. Dimash was a bit stunned wondering what he could have possibly done, but then they told him why they were there. " You can no longer walk freely unescorted in China anymore. He had become an overnight sensation (sort of similar to the Beatles) and the mobs of fans (which he refers to as Dears, because we are so Dear to him), were all flocking to get close to this new sensation. He had gotten over 90 million new fans overnight. In this competition, only the Chinese could win first place, so Dimash came in second place, but all of China knew Dimash was the one and only winner of that competition.
This was years ago, and Dimash gets better every day. He trains his voice 3 hours a day minimum and swims as often as he can underwater to increase his lung capacity. He has been in vocal training since he was 5 years old. There is absolutely no one in the world ever, that can get close to his level .

This song is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight in 2017 (The Singer).
The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' (1978) and is known in the English-speaking world as Tycoon (1995). Music: Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon (French original text). The English adaptation is by Tim Rice.
That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
The competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day bodyguards were at his door and now he is a superstar but without airs... just our Dimash.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to UA-cam ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. Won).

The people backstage are his competitor, all are established singers in China, This is round 1, Dimash is unknown in China. This performance gained him worldwide recognition. I suggest his performance in round 2, entitled Opera 2
Also the performance of Adagio from the same show. He plays piano in a powerful, epic performance. It must be the performance from Singer 2017, his other performances of the song are great on their own, but cannot touch the one from the show.

This was a singing contest very different from AGT or The Voice. All contestants are selected from award-winning established singers and invited. That’s the people sitting backstage. There are no judges, but each of the 500 people in the audience have three votes. Dimash was invited as a wild card since he was almost totally unknown in China in 2017, except to some in the Kazakh community. After this clip was aired, his followers on Weibo literally catapulted from a thousand to 2.4 million in 24 hours. When he decided to go tour the town, the tv station sent a bodyguard along with a cameraman. Dimash was surprised, “Why? I’m a Kazakh!” Meaning, I’m a tough guy. Well, to his great surprise, he was immediately recognized and mobbed for photos and autographs. The rest is history.

Or you can jump to his latest release: a mood video he just released two days ago, on his 29th birthday, entitled Omir (Life), about his life story. Yes, this specific performance, episode 1 of The Singer show (competition in China for established singers, where he was invited as a wildcard at age 22), got him millions of fans in China, and then his fame spread around the world. He had won several regional competitions, but his performances from this show spread like wildfire online. His cover of "The Show Must Go On" on The Singer is pretty awesome to watch. After that, "Across Endless Dimensions" (movie OST), and "Olimpico" should tell you more about his range. Style-wise, you`ll find in his repertoire a mix of everything, from operatic to pop, kazakh folk, rock elements and even some rap.

Congratulations, you just witnessed the greatest vocalist alive. He is a twenty-nine year old multi-faceted artist with a soul of a thousand years, who hails from Kazakhstan. He sings in 16 different languages (speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently, some English, and a little Mandarin), plays 8 musical instruments and is currently working on his PhD in musicology (has a Masters in composition). He’s been training since the age of 5, has a 7 octave 2 semi-tone range, has absolute pitch, and is an amazingly humble and kind man. His mother is an opera singer and his father is a singer and producer. He sings every genre (even raps) He has many recent performances, but I would highly recommend "Sinful Passion" 2018, "Stranger" 2021, "Olimpico" 2019 link on Igor Krutoy's (composer that came out of retirement to work with Dimash) UA-cam channel, "Adagio" from The Singer 2017, "Ikanaide" 2021 Tokyo Jazz Festival, and "Ave Maria" 2021 at New Wave. After digesting those performances, I can't stress enough my recommendation for one of his most recent songs and music video (mini movie) the artistic masterpiece "The Story of One Sky" that he wrote the screenplay for and spent 3 years composing the music for, which displays a lot of his range (not all) and soooo many vocal techniques and dynamics, including sub harmonics, whistle register, bass, tenor, baritone, classical, jazz, pop, rock and unreal metal screams....and unbelievable dramatic acting. 😅Dimash is special. These notes weren’t his highest or lowest. Try Stranger from New Wave 2021. It’s in English. And epic! He sings in 15 languages, so far. Speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently. Is getting pretty good in English now, and has sone phrases in mandarin. Plays several instruments, directs, composes, dances, models…… and is humble, respectful, no drugs or alcohol, no scandals and very much the humanitarian.

SOS is the song that introduced Dimash to the world and opened many great opportunities and collaborations for him. There are a number of versions of Dimash singing this song, each different but all great. The song SOS comes from the famous 1978 Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania', which is well known in French-speaking countries, and is a pretty difficult song to sing. In 2017 Dimash received a wild card for the competition “The Singer” in China. He was the youngest participant ever at 22 years old and the first non-Chinese. Only professional, award-winning singers take part in this competition. Although well-known and respected in his homeland Kazakhstan, few in China knew or heard about Dimash before, but with his first song, SOS, Dimash shocked the audience and captured the hearts of over 600 million of viewers overnight, and the rest is history as the saying goes.
