Thank you very much for this easy-to-understand tutorial. Before discovering your video, I tried using an online service which supposedly converts images to the HEIC format. However, after supposedly converting the file for me, and downloading it to my hard drive, I discovered that neither Preview, nor Photoshop, could open the file on my iMac. As it turns out, that website actually converts images to HEIF, and NOT to HEIC. That is why both Preview and Photoshop complained that the file was damaged, or was in a format that they did not understand. In contrast, I carefully followed the steps you outlined, and it worked perfectly! So again, thank you for taking the time to share this useful knowledge with us!

I really learnt something and it’s very useful for converting my camera photos into HEIF which saves a tonne of space in my iPhone.
Next I’m looking at how to convert videos which I can imagine it’s gonna take a long time
in what format you want to convert?
@@DexterTutorials well I wanna convert dslr h264 to HEVC for keeps on iPhone editing. HEVC is about 30% size of the original 264 when I converted it with a 3rd party video editing app export function.

Bro does heic load faster when you open the photo up compared to the JPEG?
It might. HEIC is smaller so on cloud it might load faster, but the problem HEIC is not supported on all devices.
Lengthy steps but ok. All i want to do is text one jpeg photo to friend who cant open on her iphone.
