@@chonadoria5755 Hey Chona, I can’t remember the exact measurement for the elastic in this video but I recommend your elastic be at least 29 inches for an average adult bonnet. It will be safer though to get an exact measurement of the circumference of the person’s head that the bonnet is for. If you’d like a visual on how I get the measurement of my elastic here is the link to my updated bonnet tutorial ua-cam.com/video/wbrOVPKUMyw/v-deo.html in the description box there are time stamps so that you can click directly to that part of the video. @Aubrielle Impel Hey, awesome video! 😊 I have a question, i want to start my own business but i saw on your blog the information about satin or silk. Of course i want to give my cutomer the best experience and care for the hair, so better to take silk. But that can get very expensive if i need to produce a lot of bonnets..what should i do i need advice😥
Hey Aisha, thank you ❤️ and I definitely understand sis I’m in the same boat as you, I am interested in changing from satin to silk due to it being all natural versus a blend of who knows what sometimes. But I just recently listened to a podcast and did some research on the company “Grace Eleyae” and noticed that she offers both satin and silk options on her website. So what I’m getting from this is that she lets her customers choose due to there only being slight differences between the two, and there is a dramatic price difference between the two she offers on her website and the satin seems to be selling more than the silk based on the reviews. I’ve been searching high and low for some affordable silk but it’s so expensive to produce that is why it’s so expensive to purchase so again I say I’m in the same boat as you but I’ve been looking at similar companies for inspiration 💕 hope this helps!
Hey love, In this video 1. But it depends on what size you make the bonnets. I have made up to 4 bonnets off of one yard of fabric before. It just depends. Also, All of my bonnets are reversible, meaning you can wear them on either side so it’s kinda like 2 in 1. However on this video I used the same color on each side so it doesn’t look as reversible but it still is. The additional circle piece also gives it additional support. Hope this helps!
Deborah Aluko Thank you! I only used the zig zag stitch for the elastic so that it could still stretch and not be stiff/too tight. Everything else was a straight stitch.
Hey❤️ I have never tried but I’m pretty sure you could, you would just have to be VERY precise with your stitches so that there isn’t any problems inserting your elastic.
Hey ❤️ I mainly backstitch at the beginning and end of every stitch. Occasionally I will back stitch around the bonnet in certain areas to ensure security.
I usually find good fabric on mood fabrics which is more on the expensive side or I go to hobby lobby which has decent quality satin fabric and is more convenient and cost efficient.
Madeline Drummond For the adult bonnets I just recently made I stretched the elastic to 29 inches because I wasn’t sure the head sizes, but if you are making one for yourself I would stretch the elastic around your head first and then add 1-2 inches and cut so that it won’t be too tight.
Ele Cha sorry for the late response but I’m just realizing which song you were referring to. (In my intro) It’s August Alsina, Look at how far I’ve come
Hello, I purchased this fabric from hobby lobby so they just advertise it as poly satin fabric. But I do believe it is similar to charmeuse. If I am ordering online there is a website called Fabric WholeSale Direct that I order charmeuse satin fabric from. They have silk charmeuse as well. Bridal satin is too thick in my opinion, and I’m not familiar with crepe satin.
For this video I wrapped the elastic around my head and then cut where I felt It would be comfortable. But it ended up being too tight. So now I make sure to measure at least 29 inches of elastic if I am making a regular adult elastic bonnet
Aubrielle Impel im not sure if you know or if you even still purchase from them but hobby lobby is a racist corp so i’m not sure if you want to continue to give them your money❤️ blessings your way
Several years ago I made a pure silk bonnet without pattern and till today it is so wide that at hangs on my eyes. Because I am too lazy to make off the lace trim AND the elastic

Th elastic looks like and inch not 1/4, right?
Hey, good looking out. No, it was not 1/4 nor 1 inch it was 3/4 inch elastic.

If you’re making a bonnet for friends and don’t know their head sizes what size would you recommend to cut the elastic?
Hey ❤️ I would make them an adjustable bonnet to be safe and cut the elastic about 31-32 inches.
Thanks for the tutorial can I add iron on to customize
bubbly legesi You’re Welcome! I haven’t tried that yet I will be experimenting it on a video really soon.
Yes you can, I have the cricut machine and I use it to cut out my HTV Heat transfer vinyl and heat press the design onto the satin before the sewing.
Thank you for this!! Very helpful!! 💕

Can you sew it with your hands without the sewing machine?

Did you backstitch all the way around the bonnet, or just near the opening ?
Hey ❤️ I mainly backstitch at the beginning and end of every stitch. Occasionally I will back stitch around the bonnet in certain areas to ensure security.
Can you do this with just your hand sewing
