    It was embarrassing in 2020, 5 years later it's still embarrassing

    I’ve accepted that the ID. Cars are just - as purchased 😂 if you are lucky you won’t have any trouble with it. I have zero expectations for OTA now

    I’ve had an ID.4 for two years and I’ve had 3 updates. 2 in the workshop that took 10 and 8 days respectively, and 1 OTA, which surprisingly didn’t have any issues installing. We purchased a used model 3 on Saturday, and today it’s already had an update.

    I wish I was on 4.something. Still on 3.2.
    I occasionally get a message there is an update, but it then disappears.

    As a former Tesla owner i must say we place too much importance to ota updates. In Tesla the major updates were to provide functionality that should have come from factory like matrix headlights or autopark

    Is the drainage of the 12-volt battery a common issue with the ID.7? It got better after I turned off the keyless door opening, which seemed to have caused the issue in the first place, but the issue still seems to be there. "Can't do that or this" because the 12-volt battery is low on energy warning.

    I don’t care about OTA. The only thing I care about is getting the pre-heating for the battery, nothing more, nothing less. I don’t expect any more from a car.

    Later cars with 5.0 have received some updates (5.1, 5.2) and I think even 4.1 have been updated, but 4.0 launch time cars have not received anything.

      Running an Enyaq 80x (Mj 2023) which had 3.6 out of the factory and got 3.7 a few months ago via OTA. VAG don't get their feed on the ground with their software. Massive (but certainly necessary HW changes) prevent updates to 4.x for first gen. cars. But even 4.x to 5.x seems to be too difficult.
      The car is actually great and the best car I've owned so far. But it's 2025 and there a certain expectations to modern cars - up-to-date software with updated/optimised assistants, etc. As long as VAG don't provide proof that they are willing and actually provide support their models over generations I'm going to ignore them.

      @@poseiidon2029 Fair. 3.7 works for me as well. I can even live without preheating. On the other side: What did the devs do that made them create all those other versions? What did they fix/add/optimise? Important fixes? New features? Whoopie-cushions?

      Owning an Enyaq 80x (3.7) - fantastic car for our family. New models with 4.x or even 5.x have solved many of the 1st gen issues. If you can just live with the state the car is in on delivery you'll be fine. Just don't look to other brands...

    Our ID3 PCP ends and will go back this time 2026 and we will NEVER purchase another VW. For far too long they have taken their customers for granted and their service centres / dealerships are now so awful its becoming a national joke here in the UK and both ourselves and our wider family members (who all own current / new VW's) have also stated they will not purchase an VW in the future. Worst case is our elderly parents who ordered and purchased a brand new Tiguan which has spent nearly 2 months in the dealership with them failing to correct / update the software which would prevent it being effectively bricked when locked. Shocking !

      In 3 years my local VW dealer (Marshalls Reading, if anyone in SE England is reading) has completely failed to update our ID3 from it original software or do the battery update, it's been booked in 5 times now and every time there's some excuse. They did charge £350 for the first service though where they... changed the pollen filter.

      It depends. What do those Volvo updates provide? Loads of bugfixes? Promised but at release time missing features? That would be embarrassing. New features/improvements on the other hand I'd consider service and support. Things VAG does have room for improvement.

    We all know VW can build fantastic cars and are the kings for automechanics, but they need to put all their money in software development. Maybe they should start doing it themselves - It will be pricey to start up - yes, but they will also be able to control every aspect of the software development!!!

    • @thomasfrank9174
      @thomasfrank9174 6 годин тому

      Well VW does build their software inhouse: CARIAD. But they failed miserably. SW 4.x and younger is incompatible with 1st gen MEB cars due to massive HW changes. But even with the newer branches 4.x and 5.x they seem to have issues even though they have MEB development alongside software development...

    • @SimonRGates
      @SimonRGates 6 годин тому

      That was the problem, they switched from external suppliers to in-house, built a 1500 person dev department, and failed completely because they had no experience managing a complex software project.

    • @cmdrstevemcmaru7417
      @cmdrstevemcmaru7417 4 години тому

      @@SimonRGates Hopefully, Rivian can solve the VW software problems, but I suspect that we will not benefit from the Rivian deal with the current ID.s we bougth. I own a 2024 ID.4 pro S AWD and do have some software issues from time to time (especially infotainment system rebooting and automatic wiper to stop working). VW is rolling out software updates for older ID.4 as part of a recall in North America to fix failing driver displays, but I don't get an update on my car. Really sad.
