  • Radiator valves always seem to start leaking when the heating has been switched off for a while. Why is that? Al shows how to fix em.

    Thanks so much. With your help, I worked out that I had a leak from the packing nut. Watching your video gave me confidence that that nut could be removed, cleaned up and ptfe wrapped to solve it without getting drenched.

    Thanks. Explained thoroughly on each of the possibilities. Helped me fix the leaks on the usual nut.

    Used to use wool covered in Vaseline for the gland when I was a lad.😀

      We used to use string with wax on it.

    You have a very good delivery, straight to the point and incredibly easy to understand!
    You have gained yourself a new subscriber!
    I'd have a question though... I've been looking around for quite a while now and i just can't seem to get the right answer so here goes...
    I'm incredibly NOT at home with the parts of the radiator so I'm just gonna guess here... the little pipe that goes off at the bottom... the "bleeding hole" thingy i think?
    So basically that has started to drip water and as a result of that(least I'm guessing it is) the boiler has virtually 0 pressure.
    I have been suggested to get some sealing foam up there but i think to myself that it must be there for a reason... thus outright break in the long term.
    Any advise on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the video. What if the leak is coming from the lower nut? - the one that connects to the PVC pipe? - that's where my leak is.

      You can try tightening it with a spanner.

      You can shut the valve itself. The one you are working on.

    Does the radiator need draining to remove the packing gland?

    Hi Dereton, Excellent video but I've just discovered my radiator has a leak stain from the top, the bleed valve and it's all rusty. the part at the back of the bleed valve is rusty and there's a long rusty drip down the side of my radiator.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  5 років тому

      Rads cannot be repaired. Shut off both ends of the rad to isolate it.

      @Chotabear 5 років тому

      @@dereton33 Thanks for your prompt reply. Does that mean I need to call the plumber rather than replace the bleed valve ?

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  5 років тому

      If the back of the rad is leaking by the bleed valve a new rad will be required.
