Me and my buddy bought one of these back in 1986. We had lots of fun recording with it. But like you said, you can only do so much.'
In 1991 I bought the Tascam Porta II. Which was a little bit better. Good sounds but still limited .. Then the machinme stopped working?
Since then I bought a Fostex 8 track reel-reel. Excellent. Got bored with it and sold it. I just bought a Tascam *8* Track digital recorder.
I havent used it yet but Ive heard nothing but great things about it. People actually are recording their albums with this machine.
So I cant wait to use mine. I play PIano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, and m as far as singing, I was told I sound a little like "George Harrison" 🤗..
I loved your Tutorial of The Porta One. Brings back memories. I liked your song "Everyday people"...Sounds Good! And I was going to say,
That guitar needed more distortion on it..That song was recorded in 1969, thats when guitarist used a Fuzz! But you sounded good. you nailed it.
    God Bless...

Hi Denis! Thanks for your videos!
I have a question: I just got a Tascam PortaOne and I noticed that the “cue” mix comes out only through headphones, and from main outputs L-R I always hear the “remix” mix , even if it’s switched on “cue”.
Is that normal, or should I hear the “cue” mix also in the L-R outputs?

If you push the pitch control all the way up you get a faster tape speed, and if you use the 4 tape outs rather than the stereo out you can add effects to each track.

Multitrack Cassette Fans have had one if these since 1992 and still use it regularly, just had it serviced. Great bit of kit.

audiodeluxe Great! They can last for a long time...I bought my Porta05hs in 1991, it still runs, only had to replace the belt once. The porta one has a little more options, except the double speed. Do you still record on your recorder?

Multitrack Cassette Fans I still record on it but not full mixes any more, I use it like a note book to record ideas then out put them to my DAW. I also use it to add a bit of grit to sounds I've recorded on my computer to add some tape compression and a bit of pitch drift. Still an integral part of my home studio... plus it holds a lot of sentimental value as I learned to produce songs on it.

audiodeluxe A lot of people use their multitracker the same way as you describe, as I discovered over the past few years. Interesting

Hey! nice video, maybe you might export the song from garageband to listen the stereo panning

Esteban Rodríguez Thank you! With my current iPhone, I can shoot video in stereo, so my next videos will be stereo 👍

Are you useing DBX noise reduction somewhere in the production, ? Are you using it during mixdown, or anytime,..When should it be used.? Thanks

    • @MultitrackCassetteFans
      @MultitrackCassetteFans  4 роки тому +1

Cnl TAF I rarely use dbx, because it’s too audible, the signal can start “pumping”, so you hear dbx messing with your audio. However, on some machines, for example the Tascam 244 , dbx is always on, and there it sounds okay... so my advice would be to have it depend on the song you’re working on. Just make some test recordings with and without dbx to see if it works for your project. Please note that if you do use dbx while recording, you MUST use it while mixing down. So your dbx on/off decision always goes for both recording and mixing.

Cnl TAF Akai MG614....wow....that is some machine...!!! I’d love to make a video with that one some day. I’ve never seen one in real life though, I only know them from ads in brochures of the late 80’s

@@MultitrackCassetteFans The MG ozes hi quality and it is very similar in it´s design to MPC 60 from the same era, it´s sturdy like a tank with it´s metalcase, It also fits designwise beside my MPC Renaissance :D Unfortainally these old Akai´s like the MG-614 is expensive, i paid 690 euros for mine and there are not many around for sale, people tend to stick with them ;) Thanks dear Multitrack C Fans for your channel.

@@MultitrackCassetteFans dbx results depends on the tape speed too. its better for 9,6cm/s instead of 4,8cm/s like the porta one
