I played with Michael Bourn and he’d had knee surgery in the offseason. He ran right before I did and I watched him run a 6.30 with a noticeable limp as he went. Fastest person I’ve ever seen. I ran a 6.70 and thought I was relatively fast. I can relate. Elsbury was fast too. Enjoyed the story.
I remember the days of this channel having 5k subscribers. Boy have the times changed! Keep up the good work, Matt!
Thanks!
Yeah this has always been a dope channel
@@loganrobert5811 Is that what he was doing with the snuff in the old intro? lol I suppose that doping video was taken offline :/
Yooo I loved this story. There's also a story about him that his mother (who's Native American) used to rub feathers on his feet as a baby because it was tradition to do that in order to make your child a good runner. Pretty wild mythology behind that guy, especially for a dude who only recently exited the big leagues.
Happy St. Patty’s Day Matt! 🍀
You too!!!
If Jacoby caught a deer, I’d say you could catch that dog running on your lawn
Lol not anymore
Cool story Matt! So you knew long before most of us Red Sox fans how FAST Ellsbury is. Got my introduction to it in 2007 when he was on 2nd and decided to score on a sac fly to left center at Fenway. It wasn't even close and the throw was good. Course then he stole home on Andy Pettite of the Yankees...which was hilarious. 6.2 in the 60 yd dash....silly fast!
Thanks!!! He was amazing to watch play!
Didn't he score from 2nd on a wild pitch as a rookie?
Reminds me of this one time my homie & I checked out a Valley-Cats game against the Lowell Spinners back in the mid-2000s, this is Short Season Single-A, but we are excited to see (he being a Red Sox fan) one of their biggest prospects, Jacoby Ellsbury. We read about his outrageous wheels and immense speed, and we were eager to see it in action, whichever way the cosmic universe would let it play out... and oh boy it certainly did.
The guy had 3 triples and a SB that game. If an Outfielder wasn't going to shag it off at least one bounce, the guy was determined to turn it into a 3-bagger. One of the best demonstrations of pure athleticism and world-class sporting I've ever seen.
I graduated HS and was good friends with the kid who was the PA '96 state champ in the 100 and 200 meter dash. I constantly tried to race him thinking once, maybe once I'd beat him. It never happened....
Love how you tell these stories with a good sense of humor!
My 60 yd dash was 6-6 too... 6 hours, 6 minutes lol
Lol that reminds me of that random city in FL that produces a ton of D1 athletes because they chase rabbits as kids😂
Questions that I would like answered. What do agents do for the player besides negotiating contracts and endorsements? Do you have to pay state income tax in every state you play in? Do agents help with investments and financial planning or are you on your own?
Will do my best!
Grew up loving Jacoby Ellsbury when he was on the Reedsox! Great story matt, love this channel.
Kid I played travel baseball with runs a 6.15. Drafted first or second round by the Cleveland Indians in 2017. Name is Quentin Holmes. If he can get his bat going he’ll be the fastest player in the Bigs
Erin go bragh Matt!🍀🍀great story btw. Enjoyed watching him play for Boston years ago😀
Needed to revisit this. I've gone back and watched the old one a few times.
The guy use to chase down and catch deer.
I met Ellsbury in Houston while they were playing the Astros. He needed service on his watch and he allowed me to try on his World Series ring! I serviced his watch for free after that. Very nice guy and shredded at the time.
Crazy how big this channel is. I was one of like the first 5 patreon donaters. Clay Anderson. Glad to see the growth!
Love these stories!
One time they mentioned in Sports Illustrated that Ellsbury could dunk a basketball too.
Yeap. Its true. A reporter who was to interview him in a gym said he just picked up a basketball and took off and nearly jumped from the free throw line and threw it down. He was a great basketball player.
This could be a great "in" to use to try to get him to sit down for an interview!!!!!!! Lets make it happen!!
Ells is a long time Yankee and Red Sox... but he went to college in Oregon. Wonder where he lives actually lol
Great story!
Thank you!
@@AntonelliBaseball I’ve even told my wife this story. She used to run track and thought it was hilarious.
Great video Matt! Quick question, when is that glove giveaway going to be over? 👀 🧤
I am from Falmouth THATS CRAZY mike stud the rapper played for wareham
Did you meet Jacoby in the league? Did he get faster or slower in college, don't leave me hanging! lol
In my last year of spring training (minors), I did a 60-yard dash. A season passed me up (catcher).
Matt you should do a video on the yips. Have you ever had them, and any advice to fix the yips? I got them my junior year of high school and really never figured it out it made me hate playing defense and it was one of the main reasons I didn’t want to play college ball and couldn’t play college ball.
Story time 😁
Hey Matt. Do MLB-AAA players pay close attention to other teams roster moves on a day to day basis? In 2008 would you know if someone on the Diamondbacks had gotten designated for assignment or if someone had just been placed on the disabled list? Perhaps thinking about whether another organization would be a better place for you to be. The 2008 Padres had a lot of middle infielders that season.
Me and my little brother used to chase deer as well.
Think I would be ok with losing to one of the best base stealers in last 10 years. On top of it there are not many guys left stealing bases like that while dropping 30 bombs in a year. What could have been.
Amazing story Matt! I'm a big fan of your channel. I tune in while I work out in my basement :)
Impressive speed from both of you guys. Bet the look on your face was priceless though 😂
So...did you ask what he did with the deer after catching it? Did he bring it home? Did he chat with it like you, with the deer going ”what the hell just happened?”
6.2 is pretty close to Olympic runner speed, if not already there. 5.99 is the (kind of) official record for 60 yards, with some faster but unofficial times.
60 yards is rare for Olympic runners and mostly a baseball thing. 60 meters is more common.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/60-yard_dash
It could have been worse, it could have been Billy Hamilton
Hey Matt, sitting here watching Florida, Florida State replay and got to wondering. I know colleges have contracts with gear distributors (cleats, shoes, under shirts, ect...) but do they have a glove day as well? Take care and be well..
Any workouts to get stronger at hitting or hitting drills?
Check his past videos on his channel
“That’s never happened to me before” don’t worry it happens to lots of guys....
Tim Locastro of the Dbacks, human pitch magnet and I think now fastest human in cleats
Do you have any tips for trying out for a new team?
Hey Matt have you ever gotten hit by a pitch a if so how bad was it
Any idea what Ricky Henderson was? If Ricky and Jacoby were close, what is your opion on why Jacoby hasn't come close? Different times, cant compare apples to oranges?
Yeah, I was primarily a catcher so you KNOW I never had to worry about those things. LOL
The Wedding Singer, much pop culture reference, such wow
Being from Peabody MA, had you ever heard of former major league pitcher Chick Davies, also from Peabody? Do you know if you're a distant relative of former major league pitcher , 126 game winner, Johnny Antonelli?
Wedding Singer clip - classic
No way Matt sees this but this is my fourth time watching this video this week because its just so freaking funny.
Oh I see it! Let's make it a 5th! Thanks for watching!
I just watched it again no way
6.19? Booyaka booyaka, rey mysterio!!!
been praying your father is ok after being hit by the batted ball. can u let us know hows he doin please? much respect to you and your father
I'm not fast but a great fast distance runner used to run a hundred miles a week. 520 mile
Dude I binge watch your videos and would love to interview you for my small podcast
His 40 time is listed at 4.2. If that's true he is faster than any current NFL player.
Even though you live in Mass. did you stay with a family in the Cape league?
What cape league team did you play for
Falmouth Commodores
@@Applefanatic1000 that’s right!
Who won the giveaway? 😁
great story!!
speaking of dogs, any 4-legged Antonelli members? If not, could there be one in the future?
Way to start earning that money Matt!
I love this story. I was also the fastest person growing up. Injuries kept me from playing baseball beyond High School, but I imagine I would have had the same experience as Matt here eventually if I kept playing. I was fast, but more along the 4.6 range for a 40 time. Racing against 4.2 speed is another level and you might not see it in your local area.
Rickey Henderson
When does the glove giveaway end?
Cool story. Jacoby is my favorite of all time because he’s Native American like me
Mattyyy
Get him a uniform!
Would have loved to see you play for Tampa Bay and Joe Biden
Do u still go to falmouth?
Lol. Clicked as soon as I got the notification
Haha thanks!
In the minors did happen to know a pitcher by the name of Austin Lavelle Morgan
What an EMBARRASSING story
Were you wearing cleats?
What’s up Matt
Just living the life!!
Are you going to have your kids work on speed training by chasing deer? Haha
Then he joined the Yankees and his career went down hill
Nothing I say is true.....
Ellsbury had near 400 stolen basis
You should be used to being humiliated. Everyone has a story like that, in the '90s I got matched with AP, A FUCKIN FAST,SKILLED YOUNG MAN. Adrian completely destroyed me. After we all had barbecue and great storytelling was going all night.
To those who find this i hope you have a great day
