- Hey FOA. Last night it got down to 9 degrees. Here are 4 things that I do/did to help me through colder temperatures.

Careful with letting the dentures freeze, they will crack in half as they are acrylic.
Do NOT SOAK THEM in water in this type of temperature. Wash and wrap in paper towels then place in denture holder tucked away safe.

You can’t just poor hot water on your denture they can break. I advise not to soak them when it’s freezing outside
Anthony you have to get hand warmers, place about 2 or 3 in your bed and it’ll stay hot for 8-12 hours, and let’s not forget hot water bottles.

Anthony there are heaters especially made for van life. There are other UA-camrs living in their vans who actually have heat. This type of weather is no joke. Born and raised in Pennsylvania so I know how it is.

Be safe Anthony. Please don't take unnecessary risks with your health during cold weather months. Limit your van-living adventures to spring and summer warm weather and stay in a house or apartment during fall and winter cold seasons.

I keep warm with 5 wool blankets that weigh 5 lb each and most importantly I keep my diesel heater running all night.
People that never lived van life just don't understand. That's his home. He feels comfortable there. He can do what he wants. I lived in my van for 2 years. I only stayed the night in a hotel when the temperature was negative. He's talking about the layers and everything that keeps him warm. The Freedom of Vanlife is Indescribable.
I don’t think Anthony is getting a hotel room until New Years Eve. I remember him mentioning awhile back that he’d be in a hotel for New Years and has already reserved it. I get concerned but this isn’t Anthony’s first rodeo, I trust that he knows what he’s doing ❤🙏🏽

Anthony you should never be out in a van if it's 9 degrees or I don't care if it's 30°. You need to get to a hotel or go to someone's home. I don't care if anybody on these UA-cam streets don't like it. They wouldn't be out there. It's called van life not death van. Praying for you and love you Anthony
Here in Buffalo, people are dying because of the bad weather, some people don't have power or heat in there homes, i thank God, i am safe at home, a lot of people didn't make it home, they are stuck at work, they are stuck at Walmart, and some people are stuck in other places, and can't get home!

Thank U for this!! My son is away at college and living in a basement that is SUPER cold; ur tips have helped me ALOT!!! I got him that wool blanket and a thermo beanie; helped WONDERS!! We still need to insulate the small windows but Im so much more at peace as a mom knowing my son isn't completely freezing❤

Maybe sleeping with your dentures in during this type of weather is better than risking them freezing and possibly breaking. Stay safe!

Here's my thoughts. You're happy and healthy. I won't dictate what you do, you a grown A man. Live your life (ok ok that was one dictation. Lol). Everyone stay safe and happy holidays.
The frozen dentures...lol! Stay safe out in the elements.
It can be done just be prepared. You will see in one of my videos I was sleeping in ( - 40 Farenhight and the lowest was - 44 ). Tuck extra socks and shirts into your sleeping bag. If you need to warm up quickly, it will help a lot. Pull the blankets over your head with a small opening for your fresh air. Stay safe

Hey king Anthony! (First btw). Yeah I’m Buffalo NY we had a blizzard since Thursday. It was blizzard condition with constant 70mph winds since then too. You’re a strong person to be in your van.

You need to get a small 12 volt heating blanket. And plug into you Jackery. Warms up sleeping bag or blankets. And then in am it warms you back up. They are great and not super expensive.

Handwarmers are great. You can put them on other parts too-I tuck them into my turtleneck to keep neck warm and also rub them on my knees which do not like the cold.

Anthony, glad you made it through the night. You may want to invest in a subzero (good to minus 30 degrees) sleeping bag!Please, please… do NOT pour boiling water over your dentures!!! Sit the whole container in a bowl of warm, not hot, water and thaw slowly.
I didn’t pour hot water onto the dentures. I kept them in the case, set them in a bowl and poured water around the case. I know better than that lol.
I may be wrong, but I thought another van lifer mentioned an electric sleeping bag. Something you can plug-in. Either way. Stay safe and please if you can on those worst nights get a room or couch surf if you can. Happy holidays.
So glad you made it through the night!!! Ever think of an arctic sleeping bag? Teton sports has a -35° one on sale for $150…pricey, I know, but it could be really helpful for freezing temps.

Good Grief, Anthony!! That sleeping bag should be in your car year round no matter where you are. If anything..........It is a great insulator to sleep on.

Hi Mr Anthony. Merry Christmas. You have approached your van build in a very sensible way DO NOT LET OTHER PEOPLE SLAG IT OFF. I'm very angry at certain comments saying "swallow your pride and stay with blah blah blah" Donkeys! What a load of dog nuts and artichokes! If YOU are comfortable and YOU are happy in your van YOU DECIDE. Your insulation approach is excellent and I used to be a insulation foreman so I KNOW HOW to insulate things. I get the same nonsense with my tiny house. My tiny house is the warmest structure I've ever lived in because I've insulated it almost identically to the way you've done your van. The underfloor is more critical than most people give credit too, my floor is double skinned ( I built two floors with a space between them) with polystyrene block sandwiches between the layers. Yes the roof of your van is foam insulated but it's not very thick. Making use of the sun is a great way to import extra heat on cold sunny days. I have my tiny house angled to the lowest point of the winter sun and it gets toasty in here in winter when I need it as long as the sun's out and keeps cool in summer when I don't because the sun doesn't come in until late autumn when it's starting to get colder. I have lost count of the amount of people who slag off my build for one reason or another. Too cold, too close to the river, too close to trees, on and on it goes. Ignore it! I encourage you to keep going and do well. Christmas love from southern New Zealand.

I Slept in a Van for 3 years and will again if I feel like serenity, it was a feeling of many emotions but now looking back it was pretty cool

Hey Anthony please stay safe in that cold weather. You have a Jackery why not just buy a small portable heater? You can get one with a car plug or regular plug since you have something to plug them into. Even if you don't get one this year look for them after winter when they go on sale and get one for next year.

You are simply showing us the reality of folks who live van / car or RV LIVING! The reality there are thousands who don't have a vehicle and sleep outdoors in these frigid temps! I know you have the $ to go to a hotel or even buy a HOME! But.. At this time you have chosen to earn and save income to live very comfortable when you decide to stop or retire! All the best in the New year!
Anthony, hear me out because I know this might sound crazy. Try sleeping with as minimal clothes as possible when in your sleeping bag. You can even try it with all of your blankets. It’s one of the best kept secrets that I learned from the Army. I used to sleep in my sleeping bag in my uniform, thinking that it would keep me the most warm, until leadership told me to try the opposite. I tried sleeping in my sleeping bag in just a T-shirt and underwear and it was the best thing. Just try it. If it’s too cold and unbearable after 5+ minutes, put all the clothes back on. But at least try it 😊

-36 C with the wind chill here at present. Keep warm and Merry Christmas! (get a terra cotta plant container and put a big candle in it. It'll help to keep the inside of your van warmer)

Hi ,Anthony , I know it was - 0 degrees last night, where I live I thought about you , I was hoping you were okay , I don't like the cold. Good to see you thank God you are doing well.
That was a good tutorial on winter in the van. I have a sleeping bag that I use like a blanket instead of getting inside of it. I have been warm and cozy into teens. Last night it was 9 degrees in Raleigh as well, and I chickened out and went to a shelter. That wasn't a great experience--in the future I am going to brave those temps in my van.
I had worked remote oilfield mountain sights when I was younger - normally I worked offshore oilfields -
Out of it I found that the Russian military surplus sleeping bags were the better sleeping bags in sever cold weather - also you have to learn when to quit drinking liquids before you go to sleep so you don't have to use the bathroom once your in a zipped up sleeping bag - it's a pain in zipping them to get out of them -
The other is you have to master tunneling air to your nose while your face is covered as you sleep -
You want the air to warm some by your body heat as you sleep - so as you breath the air it's not ice cold -
It's hard mastering sleeping and keeping our arms under the covers also - it's better to put stockings on the arms of there going to be out side of covering any when it's real cold -
For us it would get down to minis 60 but often to minis 30 - if it gets cold enough its hard for our feet to stay warm -
Animal's like dogs and cat ect generate there body's will raise there body' temperature when it's real cold.-
Our body will not do that - we can only hold existing heat to stay warm - at minis 30 in the mountains we had to get up and walk around to generate body heat - at some point I figured I could just hold my legs straight and raise them up for as long as I could and the energy it took to hold my legs up would raise my body temperate -
When it's real cold we loose heat when we breath cold air -
also you can get parboiled brown rice and attempt. To make it a main stay - with the brand on the rice. The food value is real high in carbarbohydrates that becomes calories - that's what our body uses to generate heat and energy - white rice has a negative food value - wheat has a real low caloric value or calories when we eat it so you have to eat 5 to 10 times as much to get the same amount of calories as brown rice -
I think you have a jackery, get a heated blanket and use it at night

You need that bottom blanket on top. Everything to keep the warmth from escaping. You know heat rises so keep it in with that thick blanket. Sleep on an electric blanket.
Please buy a 15 or 20 lb weighted blanket. It will keep you warmer.
I'm sitting in my van in the middle of nowhere. It's very warm and comfortable because I have a diesel heater. You can get them for about $150 Hopefully you can snag one, it's a game changer. Glad you're doing well

You should get an electric blanket or a heating pad, you can plug it into you generator, the blanket or heating pads use much wattage.

Get a heated blanket, heated slippers, heated gloves, heated jacket and etc...that will definitely help in colder temperatures. Also get ski gear...it definitely keeps you warm.
Line the mattress with a sheet of plastic so the cold air won't be able to circulate upward to you and it will maintain heat, do the same between your bedspread too. Wear your mask to control the cold air.
