Checking in from Ohio - Been enjoying watching some of your projects the last couple weeks. Looks like it sure beats sitting in a cubicle in an office. I have a baby backhoe I started a pond with. Decided to go bigger so I rented the biggest mini excavator I could trailer behind an F250. I could see myself trading the desk for and excavator for "Act II" of my life. Buy another Volvo and I'll come run if for you. Hell, I can dig a mean test hole for sure. Keep filming.
This is going to be an interesting project. I sure hope you are going to keep those camera's rolling and send out more videos. It's a long winter here , and watching you work, ( if you can call that work,..you're having too much fun !!) will help me, for one, enjoy the time watching what you show us. Thanks very much. .
I dug test holes at my place to get soil samples and make sure the clay would be good for house foundation. I only had to go down about 8' to get an answer. Down here it just alternates clay/sand layers for 1000's of feet. I have sandy/silt topsoil to about 4', then hard clay boundary to about 12-15', then solid clean sand. Neighbors say the sand is 15' thick, then clay again. But yeah, I dug the holes instead of drilling as well. I personally like to see the profile, and we couldn't get a boring rig to the site anyway.
We almost lost one of the engineers following us around digging test holes one day. The guy insisted on standing right at the edge of the hole. After about 5 times of telling him to get back he finally caused a hole to cave. I grabbed him by the shirt collar and yanked him back a second before 3 feet of the bank gave way. He finally learned...
letsdig18Keep up the great videos, I really enjoy them. When I was a kid, I played with metal Tonka toys, I should have got into the profession of a heavy equipment operator!
going to be hard to trench in utilities thru solid rock. A hole in a bean field here would show black dirt down to about 6 feet then yellow clay down to about 12 feet and then blue clay. Im not used to red colored soil.
So Chris all this digging your doing and this sub goes through are you going to be the outfit doing the site prep or at least apart of the project? If so where do I apply??
You're in Nc right? Im new to Va and stuff is so random. Red shale. Blue rock. Yellow sandy clay. Powedery purple stuff. I'm completely lost, florida is all limerock, sand, muck. thats it. I just posted my first operating video, me on a 321 bailing dirt to a 950, please check it out!
+imchris5000 Put that job near Toronto and the houses will be worth 800 plus. We did a job this summer near TO and the backyards were about 15- 20feet deep and the houses were worth a million plus.
I've followed you for awhile and I'd love to do what you do, I work for a company and out of curiosity how do you go about charging for the work you do?

I like when an older video pops up and gives me a view into your history. Around here it’s red clay until you hit granite….
iv'e noticed that too. cool to go back and see what some of the projects look like today. dude does some amazing work.
I found It VERY USEFUL ,,
Greeting From Egypt , Geotechnical Engineer / Ahmed
That looks to be a keep ya busy for a while job. Nothing wrong with that. Thanks for the upload.

Sometimes you come across a person that just missed the common sense delivery!
@@willowsverge3046 haha amen to that
what a random video. but i am studying soil and foundations, so thanks for this!

Digging test pits Chris nice job
Nice bud, id be nice to see ya digging the ones in the woods.. Keep it up
+Brandon Murphy ill make one tomorrow
We want to see you dig more of these holes!
that's some crazy colored dirt
+Pushysix® yeah we have every kind of dirt here. this is good for grading and compacting tho
Awesome. More please!

Thanks for the Video. Can you keep us updated on this project and take before and after videos and videos of the equipment they use to grade it?
I've had to do this numerous times now lol.
The mighty volvo getting wee bit sloppy now how many hours on her?
So are y'all just doing the test holes and then another company is gonna come in and do the clearing and developing/major dirt moving?
So would the developer go the route of blasting or attempt to shift the lots to accommodate foundations and piping
+westside98 it will get blasted and crushed. used onsite to fill low areas
So Chris all this digging your doing and this sub goes through are you going to be the outfit doing the site prep or at least apart of the project? If so where do I apply??
Ahhh! Ye old treasure map! Black beards gold?
are you charging them by the hole or the hour on that job?
I never noticed your Volvo had the swing function on the right stick.... Or are you just hitting the left stick with the back of your hand at 2:00?
+mojostevo back of my hand
Chris are you guys doing all the underground? Like sewer and water, power, gas etc.?
+bert26a no this will be a several million dollar grading job we are way to small for that
Ah ok, for a second there I thought you were going for the big time earthwork jobs. lol
Chris you're a bit late for no shave November. Digging the new look though.

what tinny yards and they will probably be 300k+ houses
+imchris5000 spacious lots. ive done some 12 or 13 to the acre talk about packed in!
+imchris5000 Put that job near Toronto and the houses will be worth 800 plus. We did a job this summer near TO and the backyards were about 15- 20feet deep and the houses were worth a million plus.
One starts on fire , it will take the next door houses with them
Where is this?
What are the pits for ?
That's crazy that they would want all those sinkholes but I love the color of that dirt
if you don't mind me asking, where is this?
Nice to know like the face hair looking good
What kind of truck does it take to haul that around
Dirt, a half ton pickup can haul it. The excavator counts as a specialty load so, you need a low boy and a semi that rated for the weight.
waw!! you said 300 some houses.? damn I would wither to live in the country where theirs not a lot of extra houses, but that's my opinion.
Have you ever found human bones or treasures while digging?
I am surprised they would want it dug like that it could be a liability problem.
I've followed you for awhile and I'd love to do what you do, I work for a company and out of curiosity how do you go about charging for the work you do?
+tyrod4630 this is done by the hour due to all the unknowns. most jobs can be priced
+letsdig18 is finding work hard or some what easy
Have you ever found anything interesting or valuable from digging sites?
What type of backhoe??
That is a Volvo excavator. Better digging job than the backhoe.
Rock = Splo-Sives, Splo-Sives = Big Big Fun!
Nothing like getting paid to blow shit up. LMAO !
+CumminsDslPwr you could open a quarry here... oh wait theres one 5 miles away
Sure would'nt want to walk out in that field in the dark an fall ass over tea cup into one of them holes.
+Charles Dyer Not to mention the wildlife that will fall in.
+Charles Dyer all holes are filled back before we leave
Won’t be a sinkhole cause they will come in and over X and bring it back up
