The point where he said to prefer android during school/college and switch to iPhone after getting job makes so much sense. A student has no need of a premium flagship device. Most of the kids nowadays want to look cool in their friend circle, hence force their parents to get an iPhone without thinking about the expense they are burdening upon. Good take.

Average annual salary in USA is around 65000 $. It means they can afford 65 iphones annually. In India to do that you must have salary of 65 lakhs approximately... Earning 5-6 lakh annually & entering the apple ecosystem is scary .

      Cons of Iphone:
      1. No headphone jack (for low latency and high quality audio and mic)

      4. Can’t change wallpaper

@@LifeGeneralist1. Actually, you can still use the lightning port for your "low latency and high quality audio and mic"
      2. Call recording does actually concern the privacy and it has happened and that is why it's banned in USA. They're not gonna build every little thing to every other country.
      3. Yes you can change ringtones (customs too)
      4. Yes wallpaper can be changed (customs)
      5. Not everyone is into themes and customisation (only techies).
      6. In-display camera is actually so bad in quality. Practicality > looks anyday bro.
      7. Truecaller listens to every call you've had with anybody and it has been proven. Major issue.
      8. Not everyone really cares about IR blaster tbh, many people really forget about it in a day or two.
Well I agree with the USB-C tho.
Also agree on the charger situation.
      9. Not everyone really needs those premium features tbh, only techies use those, normal people won't really care about those features and also it's actually the fault of our government why the prices are so high. In US you can get a 256GB iPhone in under a lakh. Actually many Androids cost more there like an S22 Ultra. Government is actually taking more than 50% of profit than what Apple is getting by selling them. It's way cheaper in US or UAE.

It's the smallest things that make Android much more user-friendly than iOS.
    1. Notification stacks/grouping is weird on iOS (checking just one notification from a group propels all the other notifications received under that particular group to vanish from the notification panel)
    2. Google Keyboard (regional keyboards don't work on iOS the way they work on Android devices)
    3. iOS updates are limited
    4. iOS WhatsApp shows last seen status as active even after exiting from the app
    5. Replying to notification through notification panel is way more seemless on Android than on iOS devices.

As an iphone user myself, I'll just say this. It is easy to enter into apple ecosystem, but very tough to get out of it. The user experience is simple yet premium. So my 1st phone was a symbian phone Nokia 5230, I used it between 2009-2012, then I got a Blackberry Q10, I used it between 2013-2016, after that I got my 1st android phone OnePlus 2 (2016-2019), after that I got my 1st apple device i.e., iphone XR which I've been using till date and have no intention of selling until the end of 2023.
The iphone that I have was brought by my relative from Dubai. In India, iphones are so damn expensive especially the pro models. The most recent iphone 14 pro starts from Rs. 1,30,000 in India. In that much money I could buy 2 android flagship devices and still have money left for buying premium wireless TWS.
In US buying an iphone is a good price proposition. They already get it cheaper than any other country and after phone exchange they obviously get a pretty good deal. In India, it is very much a status symbol especially buying the new model because it costs us way more. It is very tough decision to switch to other device once you have used an iphone for a couple of years, the user experience is really good, be it camera, regular updates or in-app experience.

Actually I feel, IOS and Androids are incomparable. Both have their own pros and cons. But yeah if someone is looking for a device which is more stable and robust for long term use without the need to change their phone and then transfer data every now and then, IPhone is always the best option. I still use my IPhone 6s along with my android phone, and it works like charm. And rather than burdening the device with too many customization features, its better to have a device with few and simple settings. Adding to this most of these customization features in turn add on to battery drain issues and to compensate that companies advertise quoting huge battery upgrades with fast chargers, which is again a marketing gimmick for Androids i feel, especially the chinese companies.I mean how many of the average users really keep changing their icons or wallpapers etc etc in these days of busy life and schedules!! Average people hardly care abt such customization stuff which these chinese companies use as bait to lure customers!! And even the kind of big screens in Androids is quite cumbersome, just to put the customers in a cherry spot companies advt their huge screens as great favor to customers but in reality optimal screens of 5-5.5 inches are very practical and comfortable for daily usage..but just to advt and market their models they keep increasing the screen sizes. I'm not against androids, since I too use one, but certainly android phone manufacturers are quite good at influencing people with their marketing strategy for unnecessary features i feel..

    • @mrskye08
      @mrskye08 9 місяців тому +3

Fast charging isn't a gimmick. Once you experience fast charging everything else becomes slow.
It's like the 60 hz on iphone 14 regular. Android fans are laughing at it because even 100$ androids get at least 90. Apple users say "you wont see it anyway". Once you experience 90 or 120hz refresh rate you'll definitely feel the sluggishness of an 800$ ip14 with 60hz.
Also once you free up space in your homescreen, you will be interested in getting good wallpapers. Iphones can't have large space on homsescreen by default so users just won't care changing the wallpaper. They cant appreciate it anyway. For android users, we usually put apps at the bottom quarter of the screen and a clock at the top. Why? Because it's easier to reach via thumb. And because we got a large space, we care about what wallpaper to use and even if we dont bother changing wallpapers everyday there are options to automatically change it.

It's completely unfair to compare Apple with the whole of Android as apple is a premium smartphone brand whereas Android starts from as low as 5000 and goes up to 1.80 lakhs.
True justification is comparing apple and Samsung S and Z series only.
No one can expect a brand to provide 5 years of Software update on a device that is of 12000 or 15000.

Also another factor is, whenever comparing an iPhone to an android, it should be like comparing a 50k iPhone to no more than a 30k costing android, because the 50k iPhone will sell for 30k after 2 years i.e the running cost of iPhone for 2 yrs is 20k(50-20k), while the 30k android sells for 10k after 2 years, hence its running cost being the same 20k(30k-10k).
People be comparing a 50k iPhone to a 50k android and drawing conclusions on basis of specs, when the android gonna be more costly in the long run considering its dropping value after yrs.

Poor compatibility with the most common desktop OS in the world is a big hindrance. Lack of file management or unified file system (root cause of the walled garden).

If you are a standard office-home guy, working with office apps and browsing only, also have the 'disposable-money', maybe iPhone and the Ecosystem is a suitable choice, still not hard and fast better. If you are a PC gamer along with everything, Windows is the only option and so becomes Android. Samsung Dex and Moto ReadyFor are slowly catching up on the cross platform integration, and will get there soon. So its actually like Android works 'fine' everywhere, and the 'missed' Apple productivity perks has answers or alternatives if you want them. So can still live with Android normally. While iPhone does few software stuff only better, its a choice about "Do you really want that slightly extra/better stuff over what you already have?"

W.R.T the update situation on Android - it's not as bad as people like to grate on - even if a phone stops getting Android version upgrades, it still receives updates through Google play store and even system apps like dialer, contacts, messages etc are updated through play store - the phone does not go obselete as soon as it stops getting updates. An example - you can still use phones running Android 6.0 (which was released in 2015) and install apps from the google play store and use it like you would a normal phone. My guess is even older android versions like 5.0 & 4.xx can still be used.
I have seen people still using old Android devices like HTC One, Samsung S7 as their daily driver with commonly used apps like whatsapp still working without a hitch. Only thing is that it won't be on the latest security update. As long as it works, average Joe won't give a rat's ass if his phone is running latest OS version. I am not familiar with iOS, but I have read that old iOS devices can't even install some apps from the app store once the last iOS version they are on is un-supported.
The update policy of android phones are much better now than what it was earlier - most midrange android phones get 2 verison updates and 3 years security - yes I know this is not good enough - but it's not end of the world as some people make it out to be - you also have to consider the midrange android phones cost a lot cheaper than the iPhones - and those phones which receive just 1 andorid update or no updates at all are bargain basement phones
brands like Xiaomi (the Mi branded phones), Nothing, Pixel etc get 3 android version upgrades and 4 years security patches - this is really good I.M.H.O. - and Samsung offers 4 OS updates + 5 years for their premium midrangers and flagsip devices. It's upto you to do your research and find out how long the phone you are buying is going to be supported.
You can even install custom ROMS on phones with dev community support to prolong the device life. I have installed Android 11 ROM on a Redmi 4 prime - a device costing approx Rs.9,000 and shipped with android 6.0.
And regarding the apple eco-system - you are essentianly paying to get yourself locked into the Apple jail - once you buy all the Apple devices to complete the eco system - none of those products will work well with a 3rd party device if you decide to repalce one of them in the future with a non-Apple device. Isn't it better to keep your options open rather than lock yourself in jail?
Resale value logic is also flawed - iPhones are so expensive in India - and all Apple users boast about how they keep their iphone for 3-4, or even 5 years - fair enough - at the end of the fourth year - what do you expect to get out of a 4 year old iPhone? Quick glance on OLX reveals that the iPhone that came out 4 years ago as of today, the iPhone XS - has an asking price in the range of 20 - 27k - who would want to buy a 4 year old phone with a depleted battery and no warranty for 27k - when you can buy a new android phone with a manufacturer warranty? And a quick google search reveals that the iPhone XS was launched in India for a starting price of Rs.99,000 - so even if you get, say, 25k for the phone after 4 years, you would have lost 74,000 in depreciation - most Android phones don't even cost as much as an iPhone, so even if an Android phone sells for less, I doubt you'll lose more in depreciaiton than an iPhone.

Better updates? Well yes, but Android 7 still has full support, doesn't it? Including even banking apps. Android 7 can also get 75-80% of the features of 12 with apps or slight mods (If you care). Heck, Android had a Dynamic Island app, with support back to Android 5, even before iOS 16 released, talk about that!
Android has no ecosystem? No. EcoSystem is pure software. Use all-Google, or all-Microsoft apps, on Android/Windows, and you'll get the same password, call, tab sharing stuff. I can send tabs from my current browsing session to any other device with my ID, on Chrome, or Edge. And just use Phone Link, and receive calls/notifications on my Windows Laptop. You can create your own EcoSystem even with any device on Android! I'd argue that is FAR more fabulous than 2 features with one crappy brand.

I understand the dilemma, after spending so much on the iPhone's it becomes hard to look at it's shortcomings....you want to justify your purchase in the end. You just fix it in your mind that it's the best phone in the world, flex it around and pat yourself. Deep inside you know you've fallen into a marketing trap of a status symbol. But you keep telling your mind it's the best decision you've made, necessary to increase your productivity and work-flow...along those lines. Deep inside you know Android is more productive as it's less restrictive, you know you could transfer files faster with a usb type-c cable but you want to look cool with Air-drop. You try to overlook the Samsung flagships unless Apple introduces those same features 2 years down the line. You fall for the Apple eco-system which you don't have and slowly spend a lac on macbook and 50k on an Apple watch.Deep inside you know that Pin is the most secure option & Finger-print sensor Is secure enough but you still compromise with the notch for the sake of it. Sometimes you wonder, why no reviewer ever mentioned that the back gesture isn't constant on iPhone's or how you can't send files using bluetooth in your iPhone or how there's so much bloatware like Apple Tv, Facetime, iMessage etc that we don't use in India at all (It's WhatsApp here). On a wild trip you quickly realize Apple Maps isn't as accurate & reliable in India so you pull out your dusty old Android with Google Maps and it shows you the way. Then later on you secretly install Google maps on your Iphone. You also then install the Google Chrome as it's simply better. You appreciate the Instagram's integration on iPhone's as the reviewers told you but then you see your dusty Android friend smartly using the superior stock camera instead of the poor built-in Instagram camera for better quality. He then tells you Samsung has already integrated Instagram & even Snapchat now btw. Also, while typing phone numbers in ios dialer, you find out that names don't pull-up like on Android. You find it silly at first but then realize that iPhone's don't use a T9 dialer and nor do they have call-recording like on your dusty old Android. As the days pass by, you realise the file system doesn't really exist, it's for namesake. Some of your downloads are visible only in Safari browser. You can't download movies or mp3 files directly. Meanwhile your Android friend is bundling Apk files, using zip, rar, hiding files with single touch on Android's File manager. You secretly slide him a pen-drive for those torrent files as torrent on iPhone's simply doesn't... Ok let's not talk about it. You immediately realize that how your Android used to talk nicely with sd-cards, cables, mouse and various Operating systems like Windows, Linux etc...not the case with ios. You see itunes app as a saviour but then you realize it's specifically designed by Apple to make a mockery out of you for doing things not permitted in strict Apple ecosystem You see your friends using Google Pay and Samsung Pay but you can't use your Apple pay as it simply doesn't work in India. You suddenly realize that all the apps you ever installed on Android were mostly free, either from playstore or from the browser...no workaround as such on Apple app store, pay and get the useful stuff. You're happy about getting 5-6 years of updates but you quickly realize you don't get next year iPhone's fancy features be it Cinematic mode or Night-mode. Meanwhile your typical Samsung gave Night mode or Single take on their budget devices with an update. Breaking the iphone 13's screen could cost you unncessarily 25k (cuz India), so you add 2-3 screen protectors and a hefty case with a shining visIble Apple logo (that's most important). You don't talk about fast charging or your selfie camera (meh). You quickly realize that animations on Ios are smooth but it too is plagued by bugs, you surely miss how Android managed notifications. You get bored looking at the ugly icons as your beloved wallpaper is almost invisible. To Edit your favorite photo, you can't share it from gallery to Snapseed/Lightroom, you've to open that editing app and search your pic within it. Gone are the days of using unlimited storage and Google Photos as you've just one Google Account (Ios bugs with multiple of those). It doesn't like to copy/paste beyond text or image and it surely won't talk nicely with your android watch. You can't move stuff, be it your Files or Icons...you just share files to other apps and save it there (let that sink in). You appreciate the performance of the beastly Bionic chip but you quickly realise there's not much you can do with it, multi-tasking like Android's...Nope! You absolutely love the powerful M1 chip but then you understand that Games and Editors etc still run better on Windows and the nerdy programmer's still stick to their Linux or Windows suite for better and deeper control. You wonder why no-one talks about the Apple issues on forum's like be it reddit or quora. You certainly miss how Android community used to together raise an issue, discuss, share stuff on Android Froum's like Xda, reddit etc After a while, you notice you've increased your productivity as you've started spending less time with your Iphone as it's more restrictive and nothing special has to happen now. You stop tinkering with your iPhone as it doesn't allows it...it stops all your attempts of making it your own unique phone with your taste. It prefers to be left out. It's like your sibling, you learn to live with it however terrible it may be. As the new iPhone's launch, the charm of your old iphone quickly dies out. All your friends upgrade to the new one and you feel left out & intrigued to buy the new one but now you know it's the cycle of trap. Out of nowhere, you see your old friend using dusty Galaxy Note 9+ but he's still paid respects in the Android community. He doesn't pretend, neither he's bothered about status symbol, in-fact he's quite reckless with his phone cuz he uses his phone as a tool to get his things done. You cheekily ask him, "still using the dusty Galaxy Note 9+ pal?". To which he replies, "I prefer to use a custom tailor-made suit instead of a generic-fit for all. Not only does it fits me perfectly, I also feel more comfortable wearing and using it." Cheers

See here's the thing, there is a unfair disadvantage Android has against iPhone, and that is the conversation framing. Questions like Apple vs. X product, automatically passes Apple into the boxing ring, without any qualifier rounds, no matter how much merit the actual product holds. This reframes the conversation as iPhone being the baseline (because what else could be? So many distractions and in-fighting on Android side), AGAINST which other products are judged as +plus (stronger) or -minus (lacking) in every metrics. The real questions should be pivoted around around as small as possible combination of key metrics that are dealbreaker or primary lookout for you, and then you should see what options are available.
Secondly, Price of a product is the bane AND backbone of every single commerce in existence. Simply saying, "yeah so its expensive, so what? look at all these other 5 quintillion factors where its better" is not a end-all argument which Apple-aficionados think it is. Look at all the effort, money and lawyers Apple threw at Rights to Repair movement so that it doesn't get a headway. If you are naive enough to believe cost of a product is "just another comparison factor", try skipping on your EMI of your next iPhone, and see what hell breaks loose on you by the company which makes 1700 $ EVERY SECOND.
