Dear Runkle, I was just thinking this this morning because of how the news has been reporting on AH! News is no longer trustworthy. I’d rather watch individual and professional (lawyer) content creators like I did on the Johnny Depp trial. Hope your pup is doing good!
Without all of small content creators we’d be like ostriches with our heads in the sand believing mainstream media. This trial really shows how important the law tubers are. I was so upset by Elaine’s pandering this morning and the narrative mainstream media is trying so hard to have people believe. Small content creators have provided their viewers with an education and deserve their place.

It never was trustworthy. When any business uses “honest”, “fair”, “reliable”, etc in their title or ad, you know what to watch out for with them. The most dishonest mechanic I went to had a business name of “The Honest Mechanic.”
I once had the occasion to be interviewed by our local paper over gang violence. It was in 1995. The article they published did not even come close to what I told them. Plus I told them they could not publish my name and they did.
MSM has never been reliable nor trustworthy.

I am really stunned at how many mainstream media companies are basting that Bamber was wronged. Do any of these places actually look at the evidence? Her statement she put out is even worse than her oped and she named him this time. Will she never learn?.
I'm genuinely surprised at how many Canadians in my comment section were defending this bill and cheering it as if it is a good thing.
This bill is neither good nor surprising. It’s very difficult to find balanced content through any mainstream media.
Balanced content does not exist in mainstream media what so ever.
To be frank, balanced content doesn't exist anywhere.
Who want to be an editor of generally non fiction rambling.
Media only wants more clicks for $. So will pick on issues that are hot, more eyeballs see article means more exposure to the ad, more clicks - can charge more for ad space. So topics are chosen on that basis - says a lot about the targeted readership, too.

As an American, I'm not sure how long this bill has been in the works, it came to my attention shortly after the protest in Ottawa. I watched the livestreams of content creators during that event the same as I have the last few weeks of the Depp/Heard trial. I've seen the same thing happen during both events, Legacy Media/MSM can't control 100% of the narrative and don't like it at all. Major vibes of, "Are you going to believe what we are telling you or your lying eyes?" My vision is still in great shape and I'll keep believing what I see. Thanks for all you do.
This version has really been arround since ~December IIRC, but it was before the previous House of Commons before we had an early election which killed all the pending bills. Pretty much the same.

This is exactly correct. Whenever an industry/technology gets large enough to where individuals or very small companies can start making money and an impact, the legacy companies of that industry/technology will start making moves to cut them out and take their part of the pie, and its often done through the government. Having worked in the medical software industry for a little while now, I've seen it happen here, with the regulations and stipulations that have been placed on our industry that smaller companies just can't meet, that the larger companies help the government shape, because they can meet them
The Liberal government has been a strong friend of Approved Media and it would absolutely track that they want to harm independent creators if it means propping up the news media dinosaur.

Hopefully your Senators care more about what their constituents actually want than ours in the US. There was a massive campaign over net neutrality here in the US that nearly everyone except the cable and internet companies were against yet they went right along and passed it anyway.

You obviously do not live in Canada or you would be up in arms over our free speech as per bill C-10 that failed for trudeau last year june and now he changed the words a bit and calling it bill c-11 to affect our freedom of speech. Bill c11 would allow crtc to chooses what we cannput online on you tube etc.

Yes separation anxiety in a dog when their sibling is out at the vets is a thing. I neutered each of my dogs a few weeks apart. The day each had to spend the day with just me was hard. Then the recovering one didn’t play upon coming home until the next day. We all survived but a couple of hard days for my girls.

Watching from The States, and I enjoy quite a bit of Canadian content. Canada doesn’t need to regulate their reach when they’re already making solid content that makes its own way online.

Its the lesser version of how brits have the bbc, where the content is heavily curated and selected by govt bodies and contracted out to larger media corporations with only token attention to smaller media enterprises. We had a huge series of scandals revealed based on the old version so the idea they wanna bring it back for the internet generation is a farce.

I see Elaine is to TV doubling down and making more erroneous remarks. This is insanity. Now we see that Elaine is just as bad as AH. And to imply that this wasn’t a fair trial is ridiculous. She’s squandering the small bit of empathy the public had for her. I know you gave her some cred but apart from making excuses for her loss she is also encouraging Amber who has 'health issues'. Could it be her firm made a lot of money from Amber and they want the gravy from Amber's appeal? Or worried new solicitors may get the appeal gig?
Or she’s trying to prevent Amber from suing her & her firm? If that’s her ploy I think she is wasting her time & likely $$. Amber has a high probability factor towards suing them whether they try to placate her or not.

I‘ve been hearing about Bill C-11 from several Canadian UA-camrs that I watch. JJ McCullough posted a video today of his opening statement opposing the bill on June 1. I so hope this bill is not passed and am glad people are speaking out and fighting against it.

I appreciate your breakdowns of Canadian law. As an American it’s so Hard to actually find good explanations for non-US law and I appreciate the different law and perspectives because sometimes it’s easy to forget here that our law isn’t the end all be all of the world
I am so glad. Many think only the USA have freedoms & protected rights. We get sorta defensive when we are told we don’t understand how important your constitution is, for instance.
There are alot of interesting compare and contrast elements though. I remember taking a series of criminal psych courses where we were expected to understand legal differences of care and expectations between the u.s.a and canada. Like a plea of insanity vs. an ncrmd, ethics code adherences and liabilities. Sometimes you would be like 'wait but that law doesn't make sense how would you even.. who is responsible for this? and it would just be like "oh that's a Reagan thing" (this was all because the program was originally training us to be able to work both in canada and the u.s.)
It may be a bureaucratic imposition, but it's for your own good. What could go wrong?

I agree. I’m in America and I found your channel and Emily Bakers from your coverage on the Depp/Heard trail and I also appreciated hearing breakdowns from lawyers in the UK. Lawtube really did an excellent job getting out the facts of the trial and breaking it down in a way that others without the same background could understand. Mainstream media didn’t even compare. They appeared to push a different narrative. It would be terrible if we all didn’t have the option to easily get to the content we needed thats not driven by corporations.
Govts all over the world are trying to stop channels that give an alternative view to the MSM. Have you tried wearing a back support belt????? I've had 3 failed spinal surgeries and at times I wear one just to support my spine when needed. Thank you for your explanation on these subjects. The main reason I initially explored subjects on UA-cam was to explore interests that lead me to individual content creators in Scotland, Wales, England, NZ, India, SA and Canada.
I’ve just recently discovered your channel and content. I’m an American who lived in Alberta for 5yrs. I love Canada and really learned to appreciate living out of my home country. I really enjoyed your take on the Depp v Heard case. It astounds me how biased mainstream media, here in the states, has become. Your content has real value especially for those who really want to understand the legal system and its eccentricities.
It's far too common for government regulations to quell and disincentivize small competitors, thus trending toward monopolies and oligopolies.
Ian, I am extremely grateful that you have a platform and also that you are able to break things down for easy consumption. There are quite a few bills I have concerns about.... but I don’t have followers so I just have my own rant at home. My poor hubby 😂

Down here in Australia for content shown on free to air television, we have a similar rule ,which alas means a massive ramp up of locally produced reality tv because its technically Australian. I'd rather quality foreign programming than cheap local crud. I can only assume online content will go the same way if this happens.

I really enjoy watching and learning law issue facts from you, Rob, Megan, etc. I like when you guys interact with one another and points of view are discussed. I'm even able to get a citizenship easily if I want to. A lot of Americans are out here thinking that Canada is some utopian haven when it has some major problems just like we do across the border. Yes, I was surveyed by Canadian government asking every question imaginable in 10 different ways to find out what I felt about Canadian entertainment business & if or how the money should be allotted pertaining to Canadian Tim makers etc & a lot about Americans filming here & all that. THIS must be why they were wanting to know so much of my opinion on the subject I’m thinking now. 🤔

I follow many people from many places BECAUSE I have a global outlook and want to see things from around the world. I don't want to be insular nor do I want all the crap from corporate content because it generally carries high bias which I don't care for.
They just put through a bunch of secret ammendments to this bill.
C-11 also slows down international people from learning about other countries and I hate it for that reason

My maternal side of the family are from Liverpool and due to migrations I have family in Canada (my late Uncle's wife was Lady Ruth Williamson from Brandon), Kansas and Florida. I had long entertained the idea of relocating to Canada, can't imagine why anyone would want to do that now.

I remember when similar things happened to small sellers on Ebay. I was a small, single person seller. Hard enough to make a profit anyway, and these fiddlings made me give up and leave. Out of principle, I stopped buying from ebay and discourage others from using it.

I used to think how great it would be to live up there but these last couple yrs with the politics, no more. I love Canadian indie music (your music industry has the same rule so I benefit from that by listening on SiriusXM to “the Verge” channel) but I can see how this particular law is just propaganda being dumped on Canadians.
