But isn't it obvious the Mate 9 will go longer on a charge? It only has a FHD screen and a much larger battery. Also, I don't understand your charging times. My friend's V20 charges to 100% from 10% in 1 hour. Are you using the correct charger?
Been using the phone for a year and half, no battery issues whatsoever, actually I find the battery life and fast charging so good that it seems difficult to buy a non Huawei phone after my mate 9
Typical biased review-you getting paid by Huawei?? LG V20 for me, better sound with DAC , removable battery (try 0-100% in 5 seconds!!), and manual controls for camera trump anything the mate 9 has (1080 screen on a flagship, really??).
+Michael Baron "better sound with DAC" Louder and higher quality sound from Mate 9's speakers, duh... "try 0-100% in 5 seconds!!" On Mate 9 you don't even have to worry about the battery life, since it easily lasts you a full day even with extremely heavy usage. Besides, if you care about the battery life so much and have a space to put the extra battery in, why don't you just carry a mobile charger instead? "manual controls for camera trump anything the mate 9" Far from being true. V20 has better manual controls while Mate 9 has more useful features to match, such as Wide Aperture Mode, Night Mode, dedicated monochrome sensor, lossless 3x zoom etc. It is capable of 1080p 120fps slow-mo recording as well, unlike V20 which can only shoots up to 60fps. "1080 screen on a flagship, really??" Does resolution really matter for most people, though? How many people in the world use VR in a daily basis, anyway?
Ehh, not really a fair comparison. Yes, they're both flagship phablets, but the Mate9 is aimed more at the mainstream crowd wanting a good looking all around phone. The V20 is intended more for the techie multimedia android enthusiast, who will want mil-spec drop protection, swappable batteries, DSLR-like full manual camera controls, pro-level AV recording capabilities, the awesome quad-DAC for high impedance cans, and 2K rez for VR. Don't buy a nice DSLR if you're just gonna shoot in easy mode. Get a nice point-n-shoot or in this case, get the Mate9. I really wanted the Mate9 until I learned about what set the V20 apart and found it on sale last week for $360 unlocked with a mini DLP projector. At that point, all its shortcomings against the Mate9 were washed away and I'm really liking the enthusiast features. I'm a multimedia designer, so the LG is a far more perfect phone for me.
When putting your finger on the fingerprint sensor in the V20, it's slower when turning the screen on coz of the animation. You just have to decrease the scale of animation in developers mode and it should be fast. Well am enjoying my V20 though
Christina Rutherford I paid less than $700 for my V20 on ebay and I'm loving it so far. I find the secondary display to be surprisingly of great use. Battery life might not be the best but I find I can use it comfortably an entire day. Honestly I love the V20. The only issue I have is that I find the camera app to lag when I switch between manual and auto mode.
Mate 9 is better afaic aside of not having dac and inferior video recording. I would buy mate 9. Huawei you done it this time but you better outdo yourself in the next wave of devices even more.
Amir Amran, The DAC on the Mate 9 isn't bad, you'll never hear the difference in day to day use but you'll definitely hear the difference in speaker loudness and quality (Mate 9 have stereo dual speakers unlike the 1 speaker on LG V20). About the video recording: the Mate 9 only struggles at 4k by stabilizing the video, but nobody will use 4k recording day to day and you'll definitely record at 1080p because 4k take much more memory space.
Mate 9 doesn't support 1080p 30fps which is the preferred way for recording in general and v20 is superior by far in manual video settings. I care more for headphones audio than speakers quality/loudness. With that said i would actually buy mate 9 but i expect huawei to add audiophile dac to the future mate, its high on my list. Anyway, atm i'm more than satisfied with my note 5 but i can see myself buying a huawei flag in the future what i would only say about samsung and lg flags before the mate 9. Finally there is a third brand that step up from the herd to fight against samsung and lg. Anyway, samsung is my default choice but its more interesting when you have more options to choose from. One thing for sure, huawei approach to dual lens is superior afaic as both lens work to produce a more quality shot - no brainer! I don't like the wide angle lens of v20 - i just want pure image quality increase. I hope samsung follows the same steps of huawei with their future dual lens setup.
+Amir Amran WAIT HOLD ON SEC... Mate 9 DOES support 1080p 30fps recording and if you record your video in that mode you can also activate the EIS which helps smoothen out the movement.
I have the V20 and the Mate 9. I find that V20 is overall better (for me). The mate 9 - The screen is as sharp as a QHD screen, but it's 1080p afterall, the fonts and rendering are relatively larger than V20 due to the pixel limitation which I personally dislike. Another thing is the audio quality of the V20 is far superior. Cameras, I prefer the V20's quad camera setup over Mate 9. It works better for me. Otherwise Mate 9 is such a stellar device and you cannot go wrong with it.
Mate 9 is better imo, I had the LG V20 and it lagged a lot more than a flagship should so I took it back to the dealer, refund my money and I bought the Mate 9( because I want a phablet obviously) and I LOVE IT, battery life is better, really really fast performance and IR blaster.
DT B glad your enjoying it mate ,i recently saw a heavy load test on about 5 phones including the mate 9 , the mate 9 ran about 10 degrees hotter than all the other phones from memory , so I'm just wondering how you find it in normal daily use as far heating up goes ? cheers .
mikldude well it doesn't heat up normal process, heavy process it does due to Oct core & that cortex A73, so we can agree mate can gain heated but cool fast too, all depends on software & hardware
Nice job on the comparison I don't agree with all of your decisions but the really good video... quick question is there any way to hide the navigation buttons on the mate 9 cuz on LG's phone you can hide those which gives you more of the screen back...
The V20 has a replaceable battery.... so how the hell does it matter what battery life is like on one battery. Carry a spare battery like I do in my wallet for my V20 and I have instantly doubled my battery life.
Mick Harrison if I was after the best display , niether the LG or the mate 9 would be on the list , that being said I think I'd go with the mate display over the LG one , even though the LG is higher res. I'm pretty confident the v20 display is the same as the one on my G5 , and in my book the LG IPS sucks .
Recently got Mate 9, such an amazing phone. Great performance, great camera, excellent battery life/charging speed, very good software and exceptional display. Highly recommended.
Huawei must be paying huge $$$ for these reviews - all fail to mention the UI which is terrible, the lack of colour calibration for a screen which is average at best, the use of Gorilla Glass 4 instead of 5 (even the Oppos R9S has this), poor low light camera quality, the uneven weight in the hand and finally the below average sound quality through headphones In reality the Mate 9 wins on Battery life thats all
The UI is way better than LG's and has way more features, EMUI 5 blows LG's trash UI out of the water. Better build, better design, better front cameras, better back cameras, better battery life, better speakers, IR blaster, better performance, better fingerprint sensor, UFS2.1, machine learning, dual SIM, faster charging, better screen quality etc., the Mate 9 is simply a better phone in pretty much every way.
Im sorry Mate 9 vs LG V20 realy? to start the Mate 9 is 1080 resolution, comparison ends here and dont need to go on with the carnage...V20 eats that thing alive..
Ive had this smartphone for 4 days. Best phone I've ever had. Every day I discover new things. Today I found out that if you hold down the lower volume button it will activate Google command and if you press it twice it takes you straight to the camera. Makes you think that the iPhone is so behind. Also you can have a photo slidshow while the phone is charging and the background wallpaper can be changed every 5 mins to any photo album you choose. And the data speed can be displayed next to the battery and you can remove the network carrier logo from the top left corner
Only V10 and G5 had bootloop prolems. LG V20 has everything you need: removeable battery, 2nd screen, IR blaster, the best DAC on the market, great cameras w/ wide lens, etc.
1000 ABONE -VIDEOSUZ- you are right all my lg phones including my g3 never had bootloop I'm on my lg g5 right now and I have never had a single problem
Ehh, not really a fair comparison. Yes, they're both flagship phablets, but the Mate9 is aimed more at the mainstream crowd wanting a good looking all around phone. love my v20. glad they fixed the bootloop after the v10....not sure why people are still trolling this as much as the note 7 catching fire haha. I agree though, battery life is not GREAT. I am getting about 4.5 to 5 hours SOT. However, whats faster than charging your battery to 100%?? popping a new one in. To me, this makes the V20 have better battery capabilities since I can get from 0-100% WAAAAAY faster than you can with the Mate 9. Thats just my view though, obviously others see it differently. And yeah, my v20 is not nearly as fast or fluid as my pixel xl. Which is a shame.
Just got myself a V20 for $218 shipped in prestine condition :), but I would be more incline to get the Mate 9 if it wasn't much of a difference in terms of price. So far, V20 is performing great as expected.
The v20 also seems to be victim of LG s famous boot loop issue. I was frustrated with nexus 4. It is shame that a design mistake goes on to several models
haahaa even when it's obvious that the LGV20 is better in a certain aspect, he still picks the Huawei Mate 9. :D his bias is astoundingly hilarious. haahaa
Ive watch all the LG v20 vs mate 9 video in UA-cam and they all saying the same thint that mate is is better all around so I'm not sure why all this LG fan boy is trying so hard that LG v20 is better. The only good thing about the LG v20 is the removable battery and thats about it..
Because removable battery is a huge deal in convenience and longevity. This video sounds sponsored by Huawei... just look at the comments. V20 also gets 2nd screen, IR blaster, the best DAC on the market, comes with Android 7.0 installed, wide lens camera, sim card, sd slot, etc. All of those are significant additions, most of which even the V30 lacks. Also big concern are the price differences.
Seeing the price drops on the V20 and the media capabilities it was a no brainer choice. Battery issues? - swap the 3K stock with a 10K mA for 2days full use (your unused one kept as back up). Better camera? - nope, you got the well deserved manual controls and the whites are not overblown, the 16Mpx is the main tool I need. Audio quality? You have *stereo mic* with a "concert mode" to capture lives without clipping. Having HiFi quality recording for voices is awesome for singers (and there is compressed modes options to save file space). Presence of the f**ing Headphone Jack paired with a refreshed DAC allowing audiophile eargasm. In public places you avoid being a jackass annoying peoples with your crappy speakers or getting cancer with those bluepoop iem in your ears.
I have both phones right now. I can't say the Mate 9 is better. There are some things it's better at, some things the V20 is better at. Because I like to shoot video, I'd have to go with the V20 due to its manual video mode.
huawei phone display like when its display 720p its equals to worst when its display 1080p its equals to worst when its display quad hd its equals to 720p display
his comparison is biased but he try to make it seems like he's picking the better device based on facts and software values
Was this a huawei advertisement. I mean it looked as if u were biased .
I was thinking the same thing... probably a huawei employee..lol
Butthurt lg fans are hilarious

It was way one sided. This review was paid, I guess !
Mate 9 doesnt have a removable battery does it? So basically after 12 months your phone will be useless.
Been using the phone for a year and half, no battery issues whatsoever, actually I find the battery life and fast charging so good that it seems difficult to buy a non Huawei phone after my mate 9

Michael Baron yea... Plus lg will come with boot loop out of the box
where did you get the v20 at 360 please??
Adja Fatou You can find a V20 around $300 on Amazon.
i think he is promoting huawei mate9
Yes... IMO. Read up on Huawei customer service... that alone ruins the deal.
When putting your finger on the fingerprint sensor in the V20, it's slower when turning the screen on coz of the animation. You just have to decrease the scale of animation in developers mode and it should be fast. Well am enjoying my V20 though
kesraj sizzler + I am trying to decide between an IPhone 7 or an LG V20. Do you have any dislikes? Can I ask how much you paid for the LG V20?

Oh ok, thanks for replying back.
A Mate 9 with the V20 audio DAC, QHD display and Military Grade shockproofing + the addition of waterproofing = best phone ever 110%
since I can't have that though, I would just buy the cheaper phone tbh.
Mate 9 is better afaic aside of not having dac and inferior video recording. I would buy mate 9. Huawei you done it this time but you better outdo yourself in the next wave of devices even more.

You will hear huge difference when running audiophile grade headphones, the V20 sounds very clean , although they do need amps to help them out
+Amir Amran WAIT HOLD ON SEC... Mate 9 DOES support 1080p 30fps recording and if you record your video in that mode you can also activate the EIS which helps smoothen out the movement.
Even without amp the quality is second to none. Just play lossless flac files and its all good.
oh man , we used to call these "phablets"? I am hard pressed to find any new device even slightly more compact than this these days.
I have the V20 and the Mate 9. I find that V20 is overall better (for me). jonah travisano how can you control phone
without nav buttons?
Klaus Weigel ... You hide them and bring them up when you want to use them.
hello gsmarena after watching half hour youtube my new Huawei p8 battery drain 11 is it ok? hope u will answer thanks
Hi,
according to your experience, which of the two can do better photos?
Which of the two can do better photos at night?
I hope you will help me.
The V20 has a replaceable battery.... so how the hell does it matter what battery life is like on one battery. Carry a spare battery like I do in my wallet for my V20 and I have instantly doubled my battery life.
+GSMArena guys when the Zenfone 3 zoom is coming ur way? I am looking forward to see how it pits against the dual cams on iPhone.
v20 camera is miles ahead in lowlight. prefer the display as well

V20 takes more realistic photos but Mate 9 looks better.
Recently got Mate 9, such an amazing phone. Great performance, great camera, excellent battery life/charging speed, very good software and exceptional display. Highly recommended.
LG V20 for the win.
OMG it look like he is the marketing sell guy of Mate 9
I am in love with my V20 best phone I've had by far
Luis Ortega in a few months v20 has retention, bootloop issue
Lg fix it long ago bro... old story, doesnt work anymore, my friend still has a G4 and it never bootloop

Smartphones speakers are just mediocre at best. You can enjoy better music with the V20 using high quality headphones.
imadude85 get hifi device instead..
Mate 9 is better phone
what an unobjective comparison!
Who is the presenter? Why didn't he introduce himself
v20 all the way babe. my girl uses mate9 tho..

Yes, the mate 9. I have one and I don't know why people are even saying LG v20 is better. This phone is a beast. LG has a FAT chance of Bootloop.
Only V10 and G5 had bootloop prolems. LG V20 has everything you need: removeable battery, 2nd screen, IR blaster, the best DAC on the market, great cameras w/ wide lens, etc.
Huawei only wins in looks. V20 wins all the rest. LG v20 is better..

Pure photo quality?
Battery life/Recharging time?
Performance?
Try again mate...
G5 doesnt have bootloop . V20 too. What are you saying?

Did you say foilage? The word is foliage
Great review, but I would still go with the V20 that Quad dack is awesome.
Almost every review I have seen says that the V20 has bad battery life, My V20 has the best battery life of any phone I've had, including my S6edge+
still strong?
How tall are you?
is the mate 9 or the P9 Huawei's flagship?
is that a biast review on Huawei's sponsorship? 🙊
Just got myself a V20 for $218 shipped in prestine condition :), but I would be more incline to get the Mate 9 if it wasn't much of a difference in terms of price. So far, V20 is performing great as expected.
I really want to see a comparison between the regular moto z vs the mate 9
A $530 phone beats a $400 phone, go fig (current prices from a popular eBay seller)
The v20 also seems to be victim of LG s famous boot loop issue. I was frustrated with nexus 4. It is shame that a design mistake goes on to several models
I have a v20 it's ok wanted a mate 9 but it only works on GSM networks and u use Verizon 🙁
Will pick the LG still anyday
mate 9 is basically a flagship killer along with the 3T
haahaa even when it's obvious that the LGV20 is better in a certain aspect, he still picks the Huawei Mate 9. :D his bias is astoundingly hilarious. haahaa
lg v20 phone is awesome phone

The Mate 9 is a great phone but why does nobody speak about the high SAR-VALUE?
In public places you avoid being a jackass annoying peoples with your crappy speakers or getting cancer with those bluepoop iem in your ears.
v20 is the phone for me. when your fucking mate 9 age 1 years it will be dead. in lgv2o u can just buy a new battery boom new again.
frank 32115 v20 suck..retention and bootloop issue..bye bye money
I don't know who this is but he's the WORST phone reviewer I've ever seen; so bias
Dac is eveything man. I have the S7 Edge but i think the LG V20 is a much better buy than those Chinese junk
Try to use the Mate 9 on Verizon. Good luck with that.
I have both phones right now. I can't say the Mate 9 is better. There are some things it's better at, some things the V20 is better at. Because I like to shoot video, I'd have to go with the V20 due to its manual video mode.
I have owned both and the mate 9 is the better phone for sure.
Perfect comparison video as these were my two choices.
Mate 9! Thanks for detailed information.
Amazon Mate 9 $459
LG V20 $399
I wanna try the mate 9 , I like the V20 a lot tho.
Huawei is better choice IMHO
Had both... sold the V20 and kept the mate 9.....
they're both great phone. it really is up to the user... I prefer a bigger battery
v20 battery 🔋 🔋 its not a issue.i can quickly replace it with a fresh 🔋. v20 sound better on my sony mdr 1000x.

Very good review. My choice is between these two phones.
I was using iphone 6s plus and i recently bought mate 9 and trust me i am loving it :)
lg v20 better
mate 9 has supercharged charging . better phone imo
Mate 9 is by far the better phone here, better value too.
Not realy..try to resell your Mate 9..You will get way more money reselling the V20.
mate 9 wins this, but huaweis headphone Quality sucks ass
Mate 9's headphone quality is great, not the very best but better than most flagships already.
I've used s7 and iPhone 7, I'd rather have mate 9(nearly perfect in every way).
