Yes! I saw her live last year and she was very much in the moment when she sang "Luka." She never comes across as if she's not feeling it every time. This was gorgeous.
I'M CRASH ...THIS MUSIK IS SO WONDERFUL....BESS WORDS.....THE MELODIE ....AND HER SPOKE.....my english is not right, it is my scool English many many jears ago.......my Name is Luka is a lovely Song ❤❤❤❤
I was 19 at that time and working at a Greek restaurant in Key West, heard this song through the radio in the kitchen, didn't even know the title. After Key West, I left for South America, traveled there 8 months. Then as soon as I was back to the U.S,went to a record shop, didn't kow the title, I sung first few lines. A guy at the shop told me that was "Luka " by Suzan Vega. This how I bought her album.
I was 29 years old with a year and half old daughter. She loved for me to hold her and dance while she listened to this song. I can no longer hear it without crying.
With the orchestra, I thought it would go overboard. But with just the strings and the base, it was sublime. Over a long period of time, her voice has kept up its originality and she has aged gracefully as well. I also looked at another video where she explained the context of this song which came as a result of a real event.
It's a hymn, a hymn for those of us who see, or can bear to see, that we are called to be aware, to extend of ourselves, to not ignore, or blame, or make excuses. Her voicing this, in this way, rends all the blaming, all the shaming and all the excuses for just standing by as the vulnerable suffer as just utterances of the worst sort of obscenity. This production is so incredibly tender and so effective.
Such a Beautiful Lady with an Awesome Voice. Love the sounds of the Orchestra in this, it adds a bit more from the String/Wood section. Again a Lovely Lady & Emotional Song,.. My childhood was the same the difference being a brother who Abused me,( always beating me up Horribly ) - so I can Relate to this song, growing up tho with a single working Mother.
I'm mostly a guitar player but I'm a sometime orchestral double bass player, and if I'd gotten to back her up on this gig, I could have just died happy at the end. She's my favorite songwriter of all time.
Suzanne Vega - Her voice, her lyrics and her guitar playing are immense and I could listen to her forever (30+ years so far) and this from a Korn / N.I.N. / Suicidal tendencies fan.
I always loved the original song's beat, melody, and layers of instruments. The subtleties of this live, delicate version gave me a twinkling, wet eye with my morning coffee. Beautiful.
The sound of orchestra really make this song so good, not to forget also her voice which never dissapointed, really this performance 👏🏼 love 80's and 90's song
I heard this on the radio today. Still a beautifully song today. What beautiful harmonies on this live version. Shawn Colvin did amazing harmonies on the studio version.
Richard Gerlach I saw her play live in London last month and her voice sounds virtually the same as when I first saw her in 1985. She sang more than 20 songs, both old and new and all her own material. Wonderful show.
I feel the same way, and to paraphrase Yoda, "When seven additional studio albums and several thousand concerts later I have reached, sound as good, I will not."
The most hauntingly beautiful song with such a distressing theme
I forgive you, daddy. You did the best that you could. Despite everything, I still miss you. 😢💔🕊
The Voice, the choirs, the violins, the cellos... oh my God. This is heaven!
Love her voice.
Great song 🎵
Amen. ❤❤❤
She has aged like fine wine. She still has her special kind voice. Positively lovely.
Nothing change on her voice...so beautiful
Abusive husband for years and that’s how long this song made me cry divorced for years no more tears just a fleeting meloncoly❤
I have seen Suzanne in concert. When she sings Luka there is not a dry eye in the house. God gave her a gift to teach us to stand up for causes.
Every time I’ve watched her perform this song, she’s never phoned it in. She’s treated this song like the sacred treasure that it is...I love that!
Yes! I saw her live last year and she was very much in the moment when she sang "Luka." She never comes across as if she's not feeling it every time. This was gorgeous.
she aged but her voice remained eternally beautiful.
Exactly👍
Probably it's much more beautiful now....
Indeed

A wonderfull music and a nice voice
There are a few songs that made their composers immortal. This is one of them.
Right on!

I've heard this first live when she was singing in the village in 1988, when I lived in NYC
The original broke my heart, but this version with the violins and the orchestra...magnificent!
Marvelous 👏👏👏😍
Timeless Suzanne Vega ,, my favorite song of the last of the 80’s. The orchestra made it more suave like a fine wine aged to perfection.❤❤❤
Perfection....such a deep song...makes me cry each time.
Same here.
I thought I was the only person on earth who could not hear this song without crying.
Yep. Because the song is about child abuse.
Beautiful and timeless.
I was seventeen when I first heard this awsome song back in 1987 on the radio, still love it today, never get tired of hearing "Luka".

Enchanted by her going on 40 years now...my arm is still hoisting torch high in the ether hoping she'll see it .

She has aged well! Voice sounds almost the same as 1987!
Richard Gerlach I saw her play live in London last month and her voice sounds virtually the same as when I first saw her in 1985. She sang more than 20 songs, both old and new and all her own material. Wonderful show.
@@codingsafari shut up!
@@codingsafari the orchestra doesn't add anything here indeed, should be more staccato piece
I feel the same way, and to paraphrase Yoda, "When seven additional studio albums and several thousand concerts later I have reached, sound as good, I will not."
@@codingsafari What are your preferences in music?

It´s great sound with background orchestra
It's a so old song, but always the same and new emotion. Amazing ...
🎼stunningly beautiful. Suzanne, voice, lyrics, music, orchestra.
