Thank You.. I'm from Australia and we have these rebranded TUYA lights, switches and sockets (GRID CONNECT) and this worked great. hopefully it continues to work.
This is a fantastic video Eddie! Thank you very much. I've been getting by with this plugin for over a year now but gaining the understanding of how to configure the Device Types puts things on a new level. I hope they release a local version soon! Homebridge paired with Tuya, Ewelink, WiZ, and Ring - Cams & Alarm + Homebridge Dummy + Lutron Caséta LEAP (for smart Pico button control) have made for a Smart Home that even my wife is beginning to enjoy!
Hi Eddie, Thank you! I always enjoy your videos. I am interested in understanding your logic in deciding to sacrifice your smart home privacy while using Tuya. If I remember correctly you were always a proponent of private, locally controlled devices and automations. I know Tuya products are extremely affordable, but the question will always be if using their products are worth the privacy tradeoff. Am I missing something? Is there a component of the Tuya integration with HomeKit that IS private and/or local?
Hi Joseph, Appreciate the feedback and that's a legitimate question you bought up. And firstly I don't use Tuya cameras since all of mine are Unifi Protect and do work locally. Secondly, the Tuya devices I have use their 3.4 & 3.5 protocol where I haven't yet found any working Tuya local plugin, currently mostly support the 3.3 protocol. But I do see some traction for Tuya local plugins to support Tuya's newer protocol. That's why I had to use this plugin to get the adaptive lighting support as well. Then for the security part - thru Unifi - I setup a IoT VLAN and applied rules to not access my main network .. However for the GU10 - I may shift to zigbee protocol to get the complete local control.
I am using Local Tuya in Home Assistant but anytime I restart my HA without internet connection, the lights becomes unavailable but the switches work fine. Any fix?
I am also having the same issue but what I do restart HA and double check if all the devices are available on your network and can be accessed thru Tuya as well
@@eddiedsuza yeah there are all available on the network but not in Home Assistant. I have a tuya RGB strip controller which has a physical button, I press it and it becomes available in Home Assistant but the bulbs have no physical buttons so they become unavailable unless connected to internet
@@eddiedsuza so now I prefer to buy zigbee devices instead of the wifi. I bought the wifi bulbs when starting with smart home and knew nothing about them
Hi thanks for the video. I have a wt5 controller of a led strip rgb and cct, my instruction in homekit of white or warm white does not understand it, I have to give any specific order ? is it necessary to pay for this service ?
You will need to check within the technical specifications if the device supports color temperature from 2700 to 6500 and does white color. That's what I typically look in smart lights to support adaptive lighting
Nice Video Eddy. What country do you live? I’ve been alternating between homebridge and home assistant and end up abandoning homenridge because could not get the zigbee dongle to work. And was never a server I could rely on. In my case home assistant have been super reliable. Are you still using home assistant?
Hey Roberto! I live in Brazil. Well I tried all the HA tuya plugins and for some reason it’s been a hit and miss. Not sure if it’s because of the device or my network. However this HB plugin as been reliable and BTW the developer has worked at Tuya as well. That’s why I said to check out the plugin issue on local / cloud control. At the same time I use both HA and HB
I’m still using the local tuya plugin, after following one of your tutorials. Does this plugin have any major advantages that make it worth making my setup cloud based?
The only advantage right now is that it supports Tuyas newer protocols like 3.4 and 3.5 plus the camera view in Apple Home. My next videos talks about this as well

Thank you my brother, very useful video! Keep up the good work
Your welcome ! Cheers 🥂
excellent! Eddy 👏👏👏👏
Many thanks!! Cheers
Do you know how to change the light type from CW to RGBCCT or RGBW+WW?
You'll need to refer to the plugin Wiki to configure the changes

Hey Timothy - currently I don’t have a discord server.
