1. Most techs don't know how to troubleshoot a potential relay. 2. If the start capacitor does not have a bleed resistor it will make the contacts stick in the relay. Hard start/super boost.. yea they suck. 3 n 1 kit is alright. Chinese capacitors are questionable. Factory parts are always best but not quick to get. Short cycling will cause problems. Voltage drop will cause big problems. If I replace 1 start component I replace them all. Just not going to screw around with it. Great Video 👍👍
Thanks, you answered my question. That is... "what if the 5-2-1 potential relay failed"? "What takes the 5-2-1 cap out of the circuit?" I took a Uf reading on the 5-2-1 cap came to 164uf.
...I like your comment on lowering the electrical bill... Do not worry...I have people getting a heat pump installed and do not use it for the sake of saving on electricity... Don't get a heat pump...They expect it to cool the house in 2 hours and do not understand that it does not heat up the house in 20 minutes either ...
the contact material changed drastically in the early to mid 2000's, due to ROHS, they removed all sorts toxic rated materials of which is exactly what made them durable and long lasting. so the reports of high failure rates does not seem out of the ordinary to me at all, they'll either burn so bad they won't close to start the motor or weld shut killing the cap.
When you talk about installing the factory start kit, does that mean you have to actually order that through the manufacturer who makes the unit you are working on? Thank you
You like the new universal caps huh. They look nice. But it would look horrible to write a 450 invoice for a cap replacement. Since they're about 2 to 3× the price of a regular cap
Hi it’s Ken back again with the furnace problem yes the motor is getting hot but last night I got home and I think I fix the problem a loosened the motor pushed it back and there wasn’t as much tension on the belt take the motor up and it seems to be working now and we’re having I hope that’s the problem what do you think
@@TheKencre88 I am in the northwest US. My thoughts on your motor are that the start switch may be sticking off. That would cover the failure to start. Hit the motor with a hammer if it happens again. That will tell you if that is the problem. GFM
Hey I have a question is someone coming to look at my furnace and they told me that you cannot find parts for the furnaces because of Covid is there any truth in that also he said that they don’t make any money off the parts like they used to so they want to sell you a new furnace instead any comment will be welcome thank you
There may be some interruption of availability of some parts, but that would be temporary. Repair is actually a higher profit margin than new furnaces for an HVAC company. GFM

Here's the biggest problem if they don't make your part anymore you're screwed which is my problem that's why I always look to this guy he's amazing

We’re the contacts made in China? I see the contacts badly pitted and sticking within a year.

You are amazing sir I hit it with a hammer and kicked right on where is the switch
@@TheKencre88 The start switch is on the end of the motor opposite the shaft. The switch will fail again. Replace the motor.

Is there a formula to pick a size a run cap?
I use manufacturer specs.
GFM
If its a Copeland compressor and it has a model or serial tag, the "Copeland Mobile" app will give you the run cap size.
There goes those Damed Elves again! Its the polka-dot ones that cause problems just like this..😢
Dang, Is there some sort of elficide out there?
GFM
@@grayfurnacemanDont know.... probably have to call up to the north pole and see....😂
Never seen a potential relay failure. Lots of GE caps, and China caps though
The only failure that I’ve seen was when a compressor lead had burned off and took out the relay and start cap rather catastrophically..
Probably the most common failure.

is that one u use a turbo? a good one?

I believe Titan capacitors are still manufactured in the United States of America.
