Don’t know your name but you’re a really good guitarist brother. Nobody can imitate Dereks sound just like nobody can ever never get that Duanerific sound but again your technique is terrific 😉
Sorry for such a late reply! This is just the Jay Turser guitar going straight into a reverend hellhound amp- love the tone! Been playing into a fender Deluxe silver face and loving that sound too, definitely sounds sweet like Derek
Thanks Josh! Great question! I've only seen this particular one, it's basically their version of a 335... wish I knew, but that's also partially why I like the guitar so much! :)
Last year, starting the college, I notice that my ADHD was kicking my ass harder than what I think it could, now I know that I have serious problems with the ADHD and also that it have been causing me a big trouble learning scales, and dang, learning a new open scale it's being very difficult, I just can not memorize more than 3 frets of notes, because when I do, I try to learn the other part of the scale and then I forget the first fucking part, it's been years fighting with it. By the way, using the same scale but in other key it's being a very big fat ass punch in the face to me
Hey Andres, wow that's all very interesting and I sincerely appreciate your comment so much! I'd be happy to try and work with you on it if you'd like, I teach privately :) Let me know if that's something you might be interested in, all the best to you buddy!
Hey man thank you! This is just amp/ no pedals here… as much as possible I try to get the tone from the amp. Nothing wrong with pedals at all, my favorite tone is just usually an amp turned up to its sweet spot!
Hi Jose, great question... Not often in the Derek Trucks style, a player like Sonny Landreth is more known for this technique (check out his tune "Native Stepson") ... but I'd encourage you to try playing 2-3 note chord voicings and see what putting a finger down behind the slide does to things you're used to playing already!
Thank you! It's a Jay Turser... not sure what model, I bought this axe for about $50 close to 20 years ago and have since moved onto an SG for slide. I definitely use a volume pedal while playing slide because I love that pedal steel sound so much too. Thanks for checking out the video!
Great lessons however wish you wouldn't use that guitar as it is really difficult to follow as your fret markers are not noticeable as you have a crazy vine inlays.
Hi Bill, thanks for checking out the video! I'd recommend playing slide with your pinky so you can use your other fingers to fret notes (a la Sonny Landreth...) but the ring obviously works great as Duane/ Derek show us... but really it's all up to you and however you can make it sound best!
Love your tone! No need for a 2500$ guitar to sound good. Way to go! But remember, no one can sound like Derek Trucks. Not even close, only pale copies. So your title is misguiding. You can't learn or explain someone else's voice , spirit, tallent and experience in a 4 minutes vidéo. Playing like him is not a simple recipe. Anyways, great playing and vidéo! Peace bro!
Indeed Ian, and thanks for watching! Obviously we're just lending ideas to help folks learn so hope you picked something up from it and stay tuned for more! :)

Thanks man!
Nice little preview. Do you have an actual course? There is no way to even scratch the surface of Derek Trucks style or mannerisms in a 3 video
Thanks Chance! I don’t have an official course available- but I do zoom lessons anytime you’d like. Lemme know n we can set something up 😊
Holy moly lmao, bravo! "Derek Trucks is a legend...here's a complete explanation of his technique in 2 minutes"
Thanks!! Derek is definitely a favorite player of mine- so much to learn from his playing!
Awesome video thanks!

Thanks for soldering home Derek s vibe, gotta learn slide
Wonderful!
Id be interested to know how you got this tone as well. Is it anything more than the fender amp in the video?
Sorry for such a late reply! This is just the Jay Turser guitar going straight into a reverend hellhound amp- love the tone! Been playing into a fender Deluxe silver face and loving that sound too, definitely sounds sweet like Derek
@@JulesLeyheGuitarPlayer No problem! Thanks for the info
@@JulesLeyheGuitarPlayer Stock pickups? I just got a JT 335 type. Great playing!
Yeah man!
Great video! What kind of Jay Turser is that?

What soft box are you using? Your image looks stunning :)
Man, we shot this one a few years ago... not quite sure but thank you so much, really appreciate the kind words!
Hey man - this is a great vid!! Question, is this just the guitar and amp or do you have any pedals in the mix? 🙏
Hey man thank you! This is just amp/ no pedals here… as much as possible I try to get the tone from the amp. Nothing wrong with pedals at all, my favorite tone is just usually an amp turned up to its sweet spot!
Great!!! Thx!
You got it Frenkinvan thanks man!
Just subbed
Awesome, thank you!
Hi Jules. When using the slide do you push the strings against the fingerboard?

Thanks Fernando! Open E tuning- E B E G# b e
Good vid man
What kind of guitar is this? Sounds great man
What draws me to slide as a steel player is the voice like qualities you get just like pedal steel

Bro you gotta tell me what model. It looks so similar to a languedoc I gotta have it. Can’t find it anywhere

Derek trucks is very very hard to emulate men

How to play like derek trucks: be really fucking good at slide guitar.
Pretty much! 😂🤘🏼🤘🏼
Great lessons however wish you wouldn't use that guitar as it is really difficult to follow as your fret markers are not noticeable as you have a crazy vine inlays.
Noted! Really appreciate the feedback, Dan! :)
Step One put the slide on the right finger!
Hi Bill, thanks for checking out the video! I'd recommend playing slide with your pinky so you can use your other fingers to fret notes (a la Sonny Landreth...) but the ring obviously works great as Duane/ Derek show us... but really it's all up to you and however you can make it sound best!
lol he doesnt use a volume pedal zzzzzzz
That's correct! But other than that hopefully there's some good stuff you got from this video!
i was annoyed at the video title b/c no one can play like derek trucks except derek trucks. but you are nice so it's ok.
Thanks man!
There is a very specific thing he is doing that makes his sound that you don't straight forwardly elucidate. Not a fan.
Thanks Drtone! :-)
