Xiamen is a very leisure city. In China, most leisure cities have a tea culture. Fujian province is famous for its tea, especially oolong tea, that is my favorite.
A few decades ago, China was heavily polluted, and the cities were not clean at all. There was garbage everywhere, although it was never as filthy as India. And the Western media duly reported on that. The problem is that as China improved year by year, Western media reporting on China never reflected that change.
Yeah. For those that don't know, watch some 90s videos on China. Air so polluted, people riding bikes everywhere, not many cars on the street. China has changed tremendously since then. China is still improving each year. Can't imagine what China will look like in another 10 years, or 20 years.
@@juki0h391 China, in the 90s, was already a big improvement compared to China in the 80s. I was in China in the 80s. There was no paved road outside of cities.
@@juki0h391 I remember after a day in Beijing around '99, I blew my nose and a load of soot came out. Of course China has progressed since then. Arguably, major cities reached parity with the west sometime around the 2000s. Nowadays, the question for westerners should be whether their own country has kept up with China.
I don't know what happened in the 80s, I was just born then, and I didn't see garbage everywhere in the 90s. My parents were in business at that time, and they had to pay cleaning fees every month. When we got up every morning, the cleaners had already cleaned the streets. For me, the biggest problem in the 90s was that suddenly many people had cars and there was noise everywhere.
I was in Xiamen last month. I recommend Gulangyu island, get a ferry there and spend 3-4 hours. That beach coastline, that you were at, stretches for another 15-20km with the best parts towards the yacht club where the beach is much wider and you get a younger crowd of beach lovers and beach campers. You can also zoom in and get a photo of Jinmen Island (part of Taiwan province) about 5kms distance, where many Taiwanese board flights back to Taipei (I think). The walking street area is also very nice. Forget Didi, just cab it for convenience, but avoid rush hours on working days and take metro instead. Yeah, Xiamen is a cool city, with great chill vibes and a rich local population (richest per capita in Fuzhou province).
Hi, I am a fan from Beijing. Your videos are awesome and I enjoyed them indeed. I have subscribed your channel on UA-cam and on Bilibili. Have a great time in China ! Love you guys !

@6:25 The sign reads 台灣美食城 Taiwan Food City. The Island of Taiwan is off the coast of Xiamen. The local language, food and cultures of Xiamen and Taiwan are very similar as Chinese from this part of Fujian (and others) migrated to Taiwan centuries ago.
Most of the ethnic Chinese from Taiwan and South East Asia came from Fujian and Guangdong provinces including myself. You may find some similarities in terms of food and buildings here and those in SEA Chinese areas😊 The seller using the 2 index fingers crossed means ten as the Chinese character for ten is 十

I recommend that you can try to make Chinese friends, especially local people, and they will take you to go to travel around the city. You can taste local food. Don't buy the food in the tourist area, too expensive. Wish you have a good time

At 08:45 of the video clip, the name of the fruit is Kiwano, or African horned cucumber or horned melon. It's native in southern Africa. When the fruit is ripe, it has orange skin and lime-green jelly-like flesh.

Now that you've returned to China, if you get the opportunity to visit a Confucius temple, you should do it. You will find a lot of his teaching on display (in English) for people to read. I guarantee you will be a better person for the experience.
Haha! Saw you have difficulties with skewers, harder to eat from the end or middle, should just pull the meat or octopus from the front out easier that way. haha! happy food experience. The fruit is Kiawano fruit. Try scoop out meat in a bowl, eating that together with vanilla ice cream, you will be hook to that.
Cat cafes are quite common in China, well at least in shopping malls. In local residential areas you probably won’t see much cats around, same as in South Africa where I live. However, as with our country, you’ll only see cats in people’s homes, not outside of them, since no one walks their cats 😅. So in China, you’ll likely see some cats sleeping at the entrances of the shops (pets of shopkeepers, some of whom actually live behind their shop, so to their pet cats the shop is kinda like their living room). However, for dogs, you’ll definitely notice more people walking their dogs in the evenings, while in big cities like Shanghai, the shopping malls are all dog-friendly, they actually welcome owners and their dogs into the malls, which is kind of unheard of in South Africa, where no pets are allowed in malls, unless you’re blind.
