      From watching a variety of videos I've thought about creating a brand called 'pitchperch' for parrot toys. I have a design for a foraging toy, and thought maybe pitch/wood sap would be a good and non-toxic adhesive. This way people wouldn't have to worry about plastic or metal, and if the bird/s destroy it(Kinda the purpose) they will be less worry/monitoring to make sure they don't ingest something that could be harmful.

      Im 15 i have an alexandrine
      And i used to have a indian rick neck [ Rip Cookie i miss you ]
      And i just want to say
      Make a lot of research and consider that it will change your life for ever and you might regret it at times and please consider that when they will die you will be heartbroken
      I had an eating disorder after my bird died
      And i said no more birds
      I got another bird after that and had anxiety for a month bc I didn’t want it to die
      ( my Indian ring neck died bc he was really sick and I didn’t notice on time )
      I really regreted geting a bird and it sucks
      No more cleaness no more quiet
      I still love my bird but please reconsider

    Two of my favorite tools are a paint scraper for the poop and chop that just won’t come off and zip ties to hang toys! You can zip them all the way so your bird can’t get their beak or head stuck, and cut them off when you want to move the toys. I also have a tarp on the wall behind his cage because we aren’t in our forever home, to keep the wall from being destroyed! Those plastic office mats can be good if you have carpeted floors!

    Fleece snuffle mat. They are great, they are fleece strips attached to a PVC bottom usually, you put food and treats on it and the bird has to forage through the fleece to find their food.

    I got a mosquito net that drapes over the bed to get our cockatiel used to us. The one I got from amazon was structured & could hang from 6-8 hooks in the ceiling or from a 4 post bed ,like mine. I draped it to include his cage right next to the bed and left his door open so he could return to his safe space when he wanted to. I only let him out when I was right there. Once he was fairly comfortable with us , I took it down. Now I have an inside free roam bird. 🤗

    Bird first-Aid, Corn starch and a pair of hemostats for Blood Feathers. Also make sure to read up on and watch a video or two. as for cage cleaning at Walmart in the automobile area get a Bug and Tar sponge, a bag of micro towels, and a spray bottle to mix the hot water and vinegar in. buy a bag of stainless steel washers, cause not all perches have the same size hardware. some washers might be to small or to big for the area you are trying to mount at in the cage. two washers, an eyelet, a wingnut and you have new spot to hang a bird toy from. lean to dyi your own parrot toys, it is super rewarding.

    Victoria, while I appreciate your dedication and enthusiasm, there has been several "tips" given on your videos which were not quite true. Not getting into specifics, I'm speaking from experience. Most behaviors are different from one bird to the next and must be figured out as the bird develops it's own personality. Shaping behavior can be tricky and certainly different depending on many factors. Age, gender and surroundings are significant in the birds tendencies. I appreciate your desire to help others in the care of the green cheeks as they are adorable little rascals! My only advice for viewers is to research specific areas of concern because there are MANY factors that can influence behavior patterns! Thanks for your efforts and PLEASE don't take this in a negative way! It is merely meant to keep an open mind for different scenarios as birds, like us, are all different characters and react differently as well.

    Palm leaves. You can buy a roll of it or, since i live in FL and NEVER EVER use pesticides or fertilizer, i dry out my own. Katie adores shredding things. Braid a lil box, pop in a nut - voila! Conure toy. If I'm lucky, 20 min of ripping followed by several contented shrieks, and then what i call giggles.

    How do birbs show affection? Also, Popples on your shoulder bobbling like that was so cute!

    • @VictoriaRyann
      @VictoriaRyann  5 років тому +6

      Haha he is so cute right!!!! Well mine show it differently. Yoshi likes to cuddle under my neck or the spot in between my hair and back of my ear. That is one way he shows is ultimately by cuddling. Popples doesn't seem to like tight spaces or cuddles much but he does like to be right up against my neck sometimes. He also will pick at a freckle on my shoulder when he wants my attention to give him a kiss. They both also bob their head a lot when they get excited and want me near. That seems to be a fairly typical way majority of parrots show affection or wanting attention. It also shows excitement :)

      @@VictoriaRyann your welcome! It seriously got me to thinking and another good thing you could do a video on is weighing our birds. I don't know if its something you do but it is highly recommended. It is a good way find the first sign of illness in birds. If they lose more them 10% body weight they should be seen by a vet. I just have a little kitchen scale with a small perch. I try to do it every morning but it doesn't always happen. Weighing in grams is the most accurate in birds. Just thought I would mention it. Can I just say that obviously messy water is super annoying, but if part of the problem is how often your parrot bathes, give them a birdbath, It's so important for birds to bathe almost every day, for their health and cleanliness, so I urge you, drinking is not the only use that birds have for water, so PLEASE provide a water dish for your birds, even if it isn't for drinking! You are an amazing bird owner, so informed yet so open to learning, Also, bathing promotes preening and feather health, it also combats dry and itchy skin (which can lead to plucking), so even if you have a water bottle for your birbs, bathing opportunities EVERY DAY are so so important, if your bird loves bathing, all the better!

      @VictoriaRyann  5 років тому +1

    One of my green-cheeks a Pineapple-Turquoise named Pina also got her beak stuck in the same way. She was calm and couldn't move her head, but when trying to get her to step up we noticed that she was stuck. She ended up with a hole in her bottom beak which grew out after a few months. It was unsual because our other GCC, Leo played with the toys for two years at that point.

    thank you so much for this video! i am 12 and my family has a umbrella cockatoo(11), an African grey (19), a parakeet (4), and a blue Quaker parrot (1) the parakeet and the blue Quaker parrot are my birds that i have raised, and the Quaker parrot i named river! she looks just like popples. this video helped me because i have had my Quaker for almost a year now and she poops a lot, so the steamer and the baking mats are such a big help to me. My Quaker is out a lot of the day but i do have a problem with her. every time i hold her she goes to my neck and starts biting me. i have done research and i cannot find any reason she is doing this, i have tried yelling at her and putting her in the cage if she doesn't listen but it does not help. i know you are a parrot expert so maybe you could help? if so that would be amazing! thanks

    Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I just got my baby quaker one week ago, and he is always flapping his wings non stop. the only time he stops is when he is in his cage, as soon as he sees me or I start talking to him he starts again. When I take him out he will sit on my shoulder and flap non stop and if I talk to him while he is on my shoulder he squaks like he is mad and then he seems like he is trying to attack my neck but he does not hurt me any thoughts if this is normal? Thanks any info would be great!

    Hey Victoria! So quick question, actually some advice. We lost our parakeet this morning and we are not sure why. He didnt seem sick or anything prior to finding him this morning. My question is; out Green Cheek Ollie interacted with him even last night. Would you think its a good idea to get him checked out by a vet? He is not acting any differently than he usually does, but we are just an little paranoid. I did call the vet this morning and scheduled him to be seen on Wednesday, and they didnt seem all that concerned. Though, I feel like you know more than they do... 😁 Thoughts? And thank you as always!

    Oh my goodness. Water bottles are lifesavers! My little budgie has always used a water bottle and it works great. With the plastic/metal cups to keep the bird healthy, you should literally clean it like twice a day and scrub it. And no one wants to do that! Especially if you like to travel.

    • @judithweymark8643
      @judithweymark8643 5 років тому +1

      2 issues. If they have a little metal ball in them, that could accidentally ingested. Second issue, the little clapper is often attached with very flimsy metal that they can bite through, leaving a sharp edge thats very easy to get a beak stuck in.

    • @VictoriaRyann
      @VictoriaRyann  5 років тому +2

      Hey!!! Thank you so much ☺️ I agree with Judith. She's totally a genius when it comes to birds. If the bells are stainless steel my birds do fine with them. I stay away from ones that I'm not sure what the metal is. Zinc, brass, copper are definitely no no for birds. So if your bird enjoys bells and the bell itself isn't a safety concern, check out the stainless steel ones.

    • @wazzberry2870
      @wazzberry2870 5 років тому +2

      Yea, some of the bells have toxic metal that peels off for some reason and they digest it and it could be poisoned to them so yea a stainless steel would be great
