Brilliant info and looks easy enough for me to give it a go. Thanks heaps. I took a photo of the shopping list for Bunnings. Your introduction was epic !!!
Thanks mate . I used the garden hose like Seek Adventure did and will definitely be swapping it out for the food grade hose . Keep the vids coming . I have copied your battery box idea and now this one is on my to do list 👍
The video is inspired by Seek Adventure. Thought I'd add my spin on it by using food grade hose. and the extra tips at the end. Glad you liked the battery box idea, it works great for me. Cheers, Grant.
LOVE your videos mate, found you from your battery box video and you just saved me a lot of $$$ and headaches from thinking about Howard where I was going to mount water storage and a pump, thanks heaps mate!!
New subscribers. So glad we found your channel. Great intro with the jerry can fall. Adding the tap to the hose make that whole thing really ingenious. And then being able to check the amount of water with your clear hose-true genius! Thanks for sharing.
Nice and simple. There are some videos using batteries and 12V plug ins but this is cheaper, simpler and usually the gravity feed is enough pressure. Did like the water level trick, too.
G'day mate, hope you enjoyed the video, please let me know if you got a question, I'm happy to answer them. Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss out on my upcoming 4WDing and camping videos. Cheers, Grant.
I did this but found the 20mm to 13mm barb that screws in the jerry was a bit dodgy, seems to flex a bit in the jerry and jump out of the threads or not seal properly , even with thread tape. Ended up having a slow leak that I didn't realise and water thru the back of the car.. I wasn't using the pro equip can however was using a bunnings water jerry (green one) so maybe it is because of that. I'm now looking at just putting a hose in the top cap to the bottom and having a little breather so that it can't leak everywhere
G'day Mark, I know the bunnings jerry you are talking about. I looked at them but went with the ProEQUIP jerry for that reason, the bunnings jerry are cheaper and they aren't as solid as the ProEQUIP jerries. The siphon method you said will also work well too. Cheers for the comment, Grant.
I bought the same ProQuip jerry can from TentWorld. It's a really good unit, but I had exactly the same issue as you. I'd screw in the 13mm fitting and it would jump threads before it was fully tight. Part of the issue is the length of the barb's screw. It was a little too long and would hit the limit of the jerry's screw-in socket (if that makes sense). I cut two or three millimetres from the barb's screw with a hacksaw and it tightened much better. I also placed a Nilex garden hose fitting at the end of the hose, followed by a click-in hose connector, which was then screwed into the a Pope tap fitting. This allows you to fill the jerry simply by unclicking the tap fitting from the hose and and connect it to a standard garden tap (providing you've kept the hose long enough to reach).
Love the set up! Is that hose really good grade? I checked at Bunnings and it doesn’t mention that one as food grade… the only one that’s good grade is Kinetic and it’s not as clear. Want to do this set up!
What do you do with the tap in order to prevent it from picking up dirt or dust while at the back of the truck? Also, what is your advice for letting the jerry draw in air as you take the water out?
Got fridge troubles like me mate fridge to high for drawers 🤣 hahaha i got the companion 60l and arb ascent canopy on my np300 st navara dualcab and its way to big for draws neat setup mate im doing the same setup frisge slide as well 👌🏽
@@OverlandUnknown same to mate i have my draw on a slide in the tub and one 1300mm draw on the other side 👌🏽 u can double stack them as well mate gives u an idea 😃
Has anyone ever used an elbowed bsp to barb as the location of my jerry is in a spot that the straight one wouldn't quite work. I've found different sizes but not in the 20 to 13, cheers
What was your method to prevent the jetty can sucking in? Im thinking of tapping a hole up top and wrap a bit of hose around and into a filter to prevent water being able to splash out
There is no sucking in pressure as its gravity fed. I loosen off the 2nd smaller cap which allows air in. I leave this second cap loosened all the time, and have never had water splash out. Hope this helps. Cheers.
Hi mate I've heard that particular jerry can had issues with leaking at the thread. Have you had any issues? The only concern I have with doing it your way, which I may still do, is that if the fitting gets damaged during a trip you can lose all the water. I might go in thru the lid which is another option.
I never had an issue, mines going on 2 years old. I build one for my mother and hers is and 18 months old, no issues. You do need to be careful with the connection and not bump it on something.
G'day Gazza, they come with a tap which I use on my other jerry. The hose hack is just another way/idea of using the jerrry more easy depending where it's located in the vehicle. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Grant.
Another way is to modify a lid and siphoning the water up through the lid and use gravity for the water to flow. Yes you still can still break the attachment at the top of the lid but you don’t damage the jerrycan. I use a standard clip on hose fittings on the lid with an inline tap and clip on hose fitting at the pour end. I can clip in a hose from a water tap to refill. This way you can lay the jerrycan down or have it sit up. You can transfer the lid to the square 25 L water drums as well
Iv also made a fitting to add air into the jerrycan. By adding a small amount of air. Clip in a hose trigger shower fitting. Bingo a pressurised bush shower.
Anything can break in the back of the canopy. I've had no issues with mine. Like anything, be careful with your stuff and they'll last a long time. I also carry a few spare connections for that exact reason if accidentally breaking one. Cheers.
Perfect mate, I'm going to try this to my jerry. Where did you get the clear hose?
I went my local irrigation supplier. Bunnings also has it too.
That infomercial intro was epic. 🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant info and looks easy enough for me to give it a go. Thanks heaps. I took a photo of the shopping list for Bunnings. Your introduction was epic !!!
You looked pretty bloody pleased with yourself at the end there. And rightly so, great couple of tips mate, cheers. 👍
Great hack ! Love the intro. The trick to see how much water is in the Jerry Can is brilliant !
Quickl and simple walk through, good on ya

I work at bunnings in the irrigation aisle and don't even know why I haven't thought of this. Going to set this up tomorrow!
using the food grade hose is great. Also, you have the best job!! I love Bunnings. Cheers.
Done, cost me $21.97 at Bunnings today. $13.05 for 2m of 13mm food grade hose... love the hack to see the water level.
Brilliant! Another hack (same tube setup) is reuse the tap supplied instead of the outdoor valve (either or is cool) saving $6.
That's a great idea!!!
Australian Made, way to go mate. Everyone should do this.
Excellent tip!
Cheers mate, I appreciate the comment. I try to buy Australian of I can.
Thank you so much for your video.
Simple and best.
From Melbourne.

Hi from Canada, that's brilliant! Awesome hack.
Cheers mate
That is a great little idea I can use when I camp with my car, it will save me having to lift 22litres out of my car. 👍👍
Absolutely. Thanks for the comment 👍
mate this is exavcly what I have been looking for. I use proquip water containers as well
IV got the same setup in the same coloured Navara 👍
Awesome hack I did this last weekend.
Love the intro! 😂
Great Hack. We are going to try this out. Thanks for sharing,
G'day guys, thanks for the support, definitely let me know how you went. Cheers, Grant 👍
Genius! Thanks for sharing mate!
Cheers mate. 18 months later it's still in my ute, working well. Thanks for the comment 👍
I never thought of this!! Legend!!

It works so well. Nearly 2 years later mine is still working well.
Nice one mate; but at the very start falling over.... LOl, you've been watching the soccer!!
Haha too much soccer and info- commercials 🤣
Wow the idea is so cool very helpful thank you for sharing newfriend support
Thanks and welcome
What a good idea, did you get the bits n bobs from the same place where you get the water jerry can from?

Thanks for a very easy to follow video. Could you also please make a video on pressurized one which can be put together easily by a female campers :))
G'day Lathika, I have been considering a pressurised set up for the jerry cans, I'll look into it, cheers, Grant 👍
Good to Know . Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! 😀
I wonder what the plastic barb and "tap" does for the food grade rating?
Can you storage the Jerry can and the hose where it’s exposed to the sun?
the best idea, love it !!!
Thank you 😊
this looks great but won't it rust over time ?
No, it's made from Green, Food-Grade High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). It can't not rust.
Perfect
Cheers mate 👍
Love it. 👍
Thank you 👍
Great tip thanks
Sweet as mate. Cheers.

Great idea!! I’m in the same position with our jerry can. Hoping to upgrade eventually to a pressurized one.
I've been out camping the last 7 days and it worked perfectly. I'm the same, would like a pressurised water system eventually.
wow thats a neat one to have!
cheers mate.
how long did you make the hose thanks
Love the set up! Is that hose really good grade? I checked at Bunnings and it doesn’t mention that one as food grade… the only one that’s good grade is Kinetic and it’s not as clear. Want to do this set up!
Yeah when I bought it, it was. Unless they have changed brands? Mines great, no hose or plastic taste after nearly 2 years.
Lol..Just like an infomercial....Had me laughing
Haha great to hear mate, those info commercials are pure comedy. Cheers mate
Need amazon link to the nozzle you have.
Great idea!
I've used it a lot and it works well!! cheers.

Yeah sure, you're more than welcome to share it. Cheers, Grant.
@@OverlandUnknown Thanks Grant.
Where did you buy the Pro Equip jerry can from and approx how much?
I got the water jerry from BCF for about $36. I think anaconda sells them too.

Thank you 🙂

Don’t think we get the bottom hole in Canadian jerrycans. Will have to check it out.
These Jerry cans are Australian made.
How do you make it not leak, the plastic thread on those jerry cans SUCK
I've got two, never an issue. Made my mother one as well, no issue. You do need to be gentle with the threads.
13 to 20mm connection to the Jerry can keeps popping out. 🤷♂️
Not sure why yours is, I've made a few these for family and friends and we've all had no issues.

I've been waiting for an acting contract for info-commercials 😂😂
just buy a tap that fits in the bung for $3.00. no need for the other crap then
G'day Gazza, they come with a tap which I use on my other jerry. The hose hack is just another way/idea of using the jerrry more easy depending where it's located in the vehicle. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Grant.
@@OverlandUnknown The tap can break depending where it is in the vehicle.
Falling down in the intro was a bit much
Just my type of sense of humour lol.
Hahahaha...
Don’t do it.
Knock the barb or tap and you bust the plastic around the fitting making the plastic jerrycan unusable :(.
