@@zepuzzi What really gets my goad is when they call the Beatles overrated. They deserve every ounce of praise they have received over the last 60 years.
I knew a long time ago that George used the J-160E on the solo. That woody tone is unmistakable. It was a bit of a shock to learn that John probably used it instead of the 325, mostly because the chord shapes are easy to play on the 325 and you wouldn't think he would've played the same things on the J-160E. But the tone is spot on.
And why would George put down the Gent he had used on the song they just did and use an acoustic guitar for his lead riff on which he tried to emulate his hero, Chet Atkins and his Gent? Makes no sense.
This is definitely one of the harder songs to play. That triplet feel always gets me tripped up, but it’s real fun to play. Amazes me how John would do this live with a smile.
This was the video I was most looking forward to on your channel. I had seen this song played on other channels, but I really wanted to see your take on it. You not only met but exceeded my expectations, I absolutely loved it!
Taking nothing away from this excellent cover, Michael Sokil has version with acoustic guitars, and another with electric that you may want to check out.
John and George’s complementary guitar voicings and strumming patterns are so important to the Beatle sound. When John goes high up on the neck at the end of the song it adds to the poignancy… these guys also knew how to arrange and produce, not just write and perform.
Even I was surprised at the revelation of their use of their J-160Es on this track. But both you and Michael Sokhil's covers make it sound nearly identical to the recording. One thing I'm rather surprised by is how subdued George is in his contributions, even when he plays the solo. John's triplet-strumming rules sovereignly over the whole song, from start to finish!
Here we go with Sam the Man. This is unreal dude. I'm sitting here listening to someone who plays exact to what they recorded. Your incredible Sam. Always love to here perfection at its very best can be 👍👍👍🎸
Love it! It's really nice to hear the J-160 again and really interesting to see a classical on the track, I just recently found out after listening to the podcast! Amazing video, just like all of your other videos.
What is that Spanish Guitar? I bought it in Spain some years ago and it has been sold to me as a Flamenco Guitar. I'm not familiar with the brand, but has the same logo on headstock as seen in this video.
Never would have guessed about the instrumentation, but wow! And one of John's greatest moments as a rhythm guitarist (possibly influenced by, but way more interesting than, The Chrystals' recording of "Da Doo Ron Ron").
You thought wrong if you are referring to the triplets, McCartney himself asserted that this was Lennon's difficult work, as a compliment, so enough of sowing doubts about everything Lennon did.
@Sam Amazing, badass cover!! This is the closest anyone here on YT has gotten to the original recording of “All My Loving”!! 🤩👏🏻🙌🏽 Hopefully we can get some covers of “My Brave Face” by Paul McCartney, “Not Guilty (Take 102)” by The Beatles and “#9 Dream” by John Lennon, soon!! 😎
Due to disagreement about which guitars were played, Michael did a version with the two Gibsons, and another with the Gretsch and Ric. Would you be willing to give it a try? All in the name of fun with Beatles music. The version with the electrics is gathering more views, whatever that means.
I know the conventional wisdom is that they used acoustic guitars in the studio, unlike the Gretsch and Rick used live, but why would they? The song they recorded just before "All My Loving", and during the same session, was "It Wont Be Long". We know they used the Gretsch and Ric on that one. Why switch? The triples played by John are much easier to play on the Ric than the Gibson, so why play the hard way when you've got the Ric in your hands already? Last of all is the sound. Good people can listen and debate that, but for a direct comparison check out Michael Sokil's two versions of the song. The sound is surprsingly similar to me, but the chord changes on the Ric are smoother and flow better.
@@sampopkin And of course you have compared Michael's two versions. The sound is pretty close. Let's just say it IS the two Gibsons. Put yourself in their place in the studio in 1963. You just wrapped up "It Won't Be Long", playing the gent and ric. For your next song, the last of the night, you are going to play a rapid-change triplet rhythm if you are John, and you are going to do one of your favorite Chet Atkins country riffs in the middle if you are George. So what do you do? You lay down the easier to chord ric and your Country Gentleman and play your acoustics? Especially George. He's going to imitate one of his heroes, Chet Atkins, so he puts down a guitar like the one Chet plays in favor of the acoustic Gibson? I don't think so. Illogical, Mr. Spock might say.
I always trust Sam when it comes to instruments choices, and this is no exception. In the 2023 mix of All My Loving I can hear the classical guitar on the left ear along with John's guitar

Never thought George used a classical guitar for this classic beatles song, and sounds good.
Yo tampoco!
Damnn the solo sounded so spot on. Never imagined they used these guitars.
John’s rapid fire triplets show he’s an underrated rhythmer
He's not underrated
Lennon underrated, kkkkk? Are you kidding?
Maybe some people mention "underrated" to get "likes".

always thought it was Rickenbacker and Gretsch but it really sounds a lot like the song, good job and thanks for wanting to help with my guitar cover
When it’s played live it’s a rickenbacker and Gretsch u can see on videos of them playing live
But Micheal Sokil and many others have done guitar covers with a rickenbaker and Gretsch
@ROCKandrollfingerMichael did both
The J-160E is SPOT ON. My jaw dropped when you played the solo!!!!!

Always loved that Chet Atkin's sounding solo
"John is perhaps the best rhythm guitarist in rock music, also capable of making really fantastic and crazy guitar solos".- Ringo Starr (mid 70's)
Glad to see you’re sticking with the J-160e theory! Great cover as always, I’m excited to see those last two With The Beatles cuts!
The madman has done it again! John's guitar upstrums and his triplets are pleasing to look at!
This is definitely one of the harder songs to play. That triplet feel always gets me tripped up, but it’s real fun to play. Amazes me how John would do this live with a smile.
The Gibson sound really threw people off for years. Amazing triplets from John, good job once more Sam, keep them coming!
John's performance on this song is incredible 🎸👏👏
Never realized that the guitar could have been the J160 until I saw Michael’s full band cover. Fantastic work Sam!
Great stuff Sam. Thanks for all the work you put into these. John’s triplets are amazing.
Interesting to see the classical guitar providing rhythm. It's one of those examples of an instrument hiding in the track but it there... so cool. 🙂

Thanks for waiting :)
Such a nice song, i always loved the rhythm 🎉
God I love the sound of J-160es
YES!!! I’ve been waiting for this one, one of my favorites from the early years
You got John's tone perfectly! Really great recreation Sam.
If at all possible, could you do Rock And Roll Music? I'm practicing for a gig, I can't figure it out, and you're the only one I trust. Thanks!
Awesome playing! One of my favorite song to play the rhythm 😁
merci , c'est la premiere chanson que j'ai chante a 8 ans !!!
Wauuuu siempre pensé que era con guitarra electrica pero me sorprendió la similitud del sonido 😊
This was the cover I was waiting for you to do! I can't wait for you to do a This Boy cover. 😅
Another sublime cover.
Bravo.

this sounds absolutely amazing, great job dude
This is probably the most accurate guitar cover of this song in terms of performance and tone.
Taking nothing away from this excellent cover, Michael Sokil has version with acoustic guitars, and another with electric that you may want to check out.
@gdholmfirth yeah that's another good one
Was just thinking about learning George’s parts yesterday and you go and post this! Perfect timing!
Outstanding. Made my day

An excellent cover of my favorite Beatles song! Well done, Sam.
Playing those triplets flawlessely is much harder than it looks! Nice job, sir!😊
Awesome Sam, keep it up! \m/
Truly FAB! As Michael said in his cover, it's got far more interesting instrumentation than meets the eye...
They probably just wanted to record the song as quickly as possible, which is why they have their till there was you guitar ensemble
This song is hard to play, and you very well played it ! big like !
Love it! It's really nice to hear the J-160 again and really interesting to see a classical on the track, I just recently found out after listening to the podcast! Amazing video, just like all of your other videos.
Thanks!
Cheguei à conclusão final de que você é foda mesmo, o melhor.
Very nice!
Damn I can actually hear George’s nylon string guitar, nice job 🔥🔥
amazing!
The first note of the solo must be a B! It is not an octave jump but a fifth!
Oh no! You’re absolutely right
wait what how did you even notice that
I've heard it.
Also, l think the ascending scale stops at G#, it doesn't make it all the way to A
I was thinking that too
That’s amazing, I love the song
Fantastic Sam
Wow, amazing Sam can play John's rhythm with a heavy-gauge pick ! That takes talent.
And lots of strength.

Amazing cover Sam! Sounds exactly like the record.
Your rigth hand on the acoustic is amazing!
Which acoustic? The nylon/classical is also an acoustic 🤪
The nylon string guitar, it’s almost a ska rhythm. Fantastic work as ever.
What is that Spanish Guitar? I bought it in Spain some years ago and it has been sold to me as a Flamenco Guitar. I'm not familiar with the brand, but has the same logo on headstock as seen in this video.
Thank you for using the correct guitars, Sam
absolutely amazing! when will you release the i want to hold your hand guitar cover?
Not sure; I have to figure out which guitars were used and I don’t own a Rickenbacker 420
Super!
Never would have guessed about the instrumentation, but wow! And one of John's greatest moments as a rhythm guitarist (possibly influenced by, but way more interesting than, The Chrystals' recording of "Da Doo Ron Ron").
Instrumental is influenced by Chet Atkins, one of George early inspirations on Guitar.
I thought I read that was actually Paul’s idea and John wasn’t happy with it at first then he realized how good it sounded
Interesting, I’d like to hear more about that story
You thought wrong if you are referring to the triplets, McCartney himself asserted that this was Lennon's difficult work, as a compliment, so enough of sowing doubts about everything Lennon did.
bravo!
Thank you. So George doesn’t play an A6 over John’s (2nd) F# like he does live? Always thought that was so clever.
I guess not!
@Sam Amazing, badass cover!! This is the closest anyone here on YT has gotten to the original recording of “All My Loving”!! 🤩👏🏻🙌🏽

Neat
@sampopkin nice job!!! Question: How do you guys not get copyright claims and have the videos taken down by the algorithm?
Use isolated tracks, not the whole track
What guitar would George play?
Check my description
Sam,
Was the original song played with electric guitars, maybe Gretsch and/or Rick?
No, they used classical and J-160 as I am doing here. Watch out gear there and everywhere episode on it, to find out more
@sampopkin Thanks Sam for the additional clarification!
I thought George double-tracked his solo, or does the J-160E just sound that full?
Just that full!
personally a rick 325 believer, but great video nonetheless
omg you played john’s part with a heavy pick?
Only type of pick I know how to use
How do you equalize the guitar to get that tone?
Most of the electric tone is the guitar’s p90 pickup and the Vox amp. But I use some eq and compression plug-ins to sculpt it a bit
How sure are we about John’s triplets being on this acoustic? Just wondering.
It’s hotly debated. Check out the link to our gear podcast in my description, we discuss why we think it was the acoustic-electric plugged in
Not an easy thing to do Lennon was so talented
I called it again!…(after a couple of videos)
If you know, you know!
Okay next is…She’s a Woman!
Sam did you use flat wounds on your J160? If so, which ones?
Nope! I used pure nickel Ernie ball roundwound slinkys
@ I’ve never tried roundwound electric guitar strings, only Pyramid flats or acoustic strings on mine. What gauge?
@ 11-50
@ guitar gear connections videos revealed beatles used Gibson sonomatic roundwound electrics on their j160’s
@@sampopkin Thanks for sharing that Sam 😎
Hey sam can you do a let it be cover?
Yes, I’m waiting till I get a piano or certain type of bass
@sampopkin oh i see, what kind are you searching for?
@ Rickenbacker bass
Where is the "it's only love" cover? (Nice cover of all my loving)
Haven’t done that one yet
