    Given that the head is homemade, it seems to me like he created the bolt as a means to scare deer off of his property (maybe they had been invading his garden), but sorely underestimated the power of his crossbow, killing the deer even with the attempted non-lethal bolt. Either way, he's definitely lying about the youth bow story, unless his daughter is A LOT stronger than a regular 14 year old girl lol...

      well, you have to keep in mind, that swearing itself isn't an issue for most of us germans. we don't have bleeps on TV, we don't have comedians 'working clean' or any of that puritan bullshit. most of us usually try to avoid 'below-the-belt-line'-swearing (meaning sexual references) while being in front of kids, but that's pretty much it. the term 'bullshit' doesn't meet this criteria at all. sometimes it's just awkward to swear in a different language (than your native language), because swearing is usually a quick response to something or someone, and your native language usually is the first thing that comes to mind (he e.g. sometimes says "Scheiße", when he messes up something).

And back 100 years ago or so, the manufactured cars were not quite as tamed as they are now. So some of them managed to run away (you can google "runaway diesel" if you want). The blunt tip pictured on the original crossbow bolt looks a bit like a 3D printed variant of the 3Rivers Bunny Buster, a device used for small game such as squirrels, rabbits and birds (depending upon one's preference, of course).
    Everything about the incident screams "deliberate" -- this is a very specialized round, used for a very specific niche application in hunting, and there's absolutely no way you'd have one on hand unless you've taken the steps to either buy them online or go to the local outfitter.
    The most likely scenario I'm imagining in this case is that some dumbass sees deer wandering onto his property eating his garden crops, so he rummages through his hunting gear asking himself what he can use to scare said deer away. Dumbass pulls out the small game tips, thinks "these won't kill 'em," then proceeds to shoot one of the deer at close range before realizing too late that the deer just ran away with the evidence, and there might be consequences.

      We will probably never know exactly what happened. All it takes is a few accusations, a little circumstantial evidence, and enough people pointing the finger at him until he changes his story, then people assume he is guilty just because he lied at all. If he didn't know what happened and made up a story that he thought made sense, then later was found to be lying, people will assume he lied on purpose to cover his tracks. How can you prove 100% that he personally did the shot and not his daughter? More circumstantial evidence? Do you need to punish someone, even without proof, to feel like justice was done? Justice is not what you "feel" is right, it is what is right by what actually happened. Just admit we do not know 100% what happened. Why do so many jump to conclusions and make up stories to make people into the "bad guy" when they have absolutely no way of knowing for sure.

      Crimson Halo likely but I also believe there was malicious intent as well. The power and limited range required to inflict a fatal wound shows a level of sadism, he wanted to hurt the deer while being close enough to enjoy it. An unsuppressed normal round from a firearms is plenty to frighten the average animal.

    When I was in Basic Training, we were at the gun range one day, getting to shoot (briefly) a tripod mounted machine gun. There were three set up, and the target was an old APC, about 150yds downrange. Three teams had just taken their places, when two deer came out of the trees a little to the side of the target and proceeded to walk in front of it. The three teams each immediately opened up, despite the sargeant yelling at them to cease fire. They must have fired several hundred rounds in those few seconds. When the smoke cleared, the deer looked back at us, and calmly walked off the range. The sargeants were laughing so hard at the clowns at the guns that they didn't even scream at them.....too much. True story.

      Not necessarily true. You are supposed to practice loosing arrows with both target arrow/bolt heads and the heads you use for hunting. They travel, aim, and feel fairly different from each other and much like a hunter needs to sight in their rifle, the bow hunter/crossbow hunter must test and practice with the actual bolts you use. That being said, there is no way that a 14 year old girl can produce enough force with an arrow like that from a small youth bow to penetrate and kill the deer throw the thick hide and muscle the deer has unless it was a miraculous eye shot or something, but I find that just as unlikely. It's just not possible. The father, who threw his daughter under the bus, is completely full of it.

      @@jsubtext7334 It is not THAT unlikely, actually. First: The deer would not have noticed the projectile. Second: The roe deer population in germany is very high in some places, and the deers know exactly if it is hunting season or not. Off season, I had many close encounters inside 200m of villages. If they were shooting in the evening near a forest line, good chance to have a deers come out at some point. How hard would it be to hit a deer with your car if you wanted to? still happens all the time in germany. Third: If you are aiming at a practice target, you get tunnel vision and won´t notice anyone or anything approaching your line of shot until it´s too late. You gotta make sure that no one can enter the target areas BEFORE you start shooting. It is really amazing what you don´t see. Bonus: while on a field archery practice range, a family member very nearly accidentally shot a deer around 4pm, that was just idly standing among the rubber foam mock deers at 30m. He was already drawing back, when one of the things suddenly moved....no harm done, but...it was time to pack up and go home, then.
      So, yes, unlikely, but not totally outer-worldly unlikely. Still within the realm of possible reality. Crazy shit happens, YT is proof.

      Sasquatch so there is no difference between a car with a 10 second stop time with others that might be behind you and a >350 feet a second bolt in the woods where aiming is the only thing you are thinking of?

    • @kolbywilliams6288
      @kolbywilliams6288 4 роки тому +2

      Paavo Bergmann
      We can’t base this on if this was a full powered crossbow. A youth bow cannot reach the kinds of range and speed for this kind of accident to happen. The practice target couldn’t have been more than 40 yds away at the very most. With that kind of range, you can see anything that is or is going to be between you and the target. Plus, with a target that is relatively close, a deer would have to get even closer to the people, something deer rarely do, in order to intercept the arrow. Furthermore, the arrow from a youth bow wouldn’t be able to penetrate the deer from 20-30 yds away because Sprave could barely do it at only 5 ft. away. Therefore, the story is pretty much implausible.
      Go to Hickock .45. He has deer randomly running into his firing range all the time, and he doesn’t “accidentally” shoot them, nor do they just run in front of his bullets. He’s using rifles and handguns in the middle of the woods, too. If you get tunnel vision while shooting, make sure you don’t take anybody you care about hunting with you. You need to be aware of your surroundings at all times while using a weapon of any kind. Tunnel Vision is no excuse for sloppy shots that hit people and animals that you aren’t aiming at.

    As a former hunter.
    If its not a quick and clean kill it's one of the most deplorable acts a person can do to an animal.
    Depending in what you're hunting.
    If its down but alive you must either slit it's throat or pierce its heart.
    There is debate as to which is better a head shot or heart shot.
    When piercing the brain the body goes into spasm like a rubber band toy being released.
    Some think this death spasm is painless, others think its the body reacting to pain.
    I'll leave it up to the hunter to decide which they think is better.
    But all hunters must ensure the game doesn't needlessly suffer.

    • @coryman125
      @coryman125 6 років тому +53

      I have no real qualifications, but I happen to know that the brain (or at least a human brain) doesn't have any nerve endings, and can't feel pain, aside from the entry wound through skin and skull. The brain is also responsible for understanding pain. So my guess would be a headshot would be the best, since damaging the brain sufficiently would shut off the ability to feel pain, whereas a shot to the heart would take until the brain ran out of oxygen to have that effect.
      Again though, this is just speculating, I could well be missing something

    • @selfworthy
      @selfworthy 6 років тому +14

      The brain is sometimes smaller and harder to hit right, then the heart tough.

    • @mathewpoole3589
      @mathewpoole3589 6 років тому +18

      coryman125
      That's generally the debate.
      With head shots an animal can kick and flip and flop quiet violently.
      Squirrels have been known to leap quite high from it.
      Where as a heart shot knocks them over with minimal twitching.
      Some view this behavior as the body flipping out like its lots control all of a sudden.
      Hench the rubber band toy analogy.
      Once you let it go (in this case the brain let's go) everything just fires off all at once.
      Others view it as the animal lashing out in fear and pain due to the sudden thrashing.
      But as you said the heart shot would stop blood flow meaning there's a few seconds of awareness as the brain dies off.
      Either option is relatively quick though when compared to how wolves and lions kill.
      Usually its a smothering action.
      I'm not familiar with decapitation of most animals but some like the chicken will literary run around non stop once their heads been cut off.
      Personally I was clearest shot.
      I wouldn't shot if it wasn't a guaranteed kill.

    • @mathewpoole3589

      coryman125 pain is registered in the thalamus, a very deep and primal part of the brain... unless your specifically wrecking all of the tissue there it's very unlikely that the creature feels nothing as if it were a switch being turned off.
      so i'd guess there's a few seconds of pain and/or panic in the animal either way

I'm an experienced hunter and I shot quite a few rabbits in my life, but I never enjoyed or endorsed intentionally maiming the animal instead of instantly killing it. This is why I don't like using arrows or very small caliber rifles, the old 12Ga may fill the meat with pellets but will instantly drop small game.

    Joerg has proven this much: That is definitely a crossbow bolt, and it was definitely fired from a crossbow. There is no legitimate way to argue otherwise.
    Which means at least one crime was committed by the father, when he lied to the police. Another crime was committed if it was the 14 year old daughter who fired it, but either way, the father is guilty of making a false statement to the police.
    It is difficult if not impossible to prove intent, but Joerg is right to point out that the father's story about the deer just so happening to jump into the path of the arrow as it was fired is unlikely to the point of absurdity. A good interrogator could poke holes in this story until the man admits what actually happened, which is probably that he intentionally shot the deer with a crossbow.

    The blunted tip was to prevent the arrow from tarnishing the hide. People do it with small game usually. The arrow is intended to kill the animal by delivering shock to the internals. Think about it like a hammer hit verse a sword. It's inhumane especially for big game like deer.

    In the SCA in Canada I used to do combat archery. Rubber varmint blunts on a 28" arrow using a 30Lb bow. Fencing mask and leather gloves with a kidney belt and jock cup were required protection. I was shot from 20-30 feet away with just a thin layer of cloth as protection in the legs, torso, arms and shoulder many times. Youth bows are typically 20Lbs, especially if it was used by a 14 year old girl. A 30lb bow left me with red welts similar to those acquired in paintball competition. There is no way that father is telling the truth.

      Police need EVIDENCE to link the man to the crime
      They know his story is fake but how to PROVE that he is without a doubt lying and actually committed a crime. You are innocent until proven guilty.
      Not to mention this youtuber is an expert in this field whereas a police officer is not and does not just have crossbows lying around for them to test.
      Police also have to go through proper procedures and paperwork not just simply say HE'S GUILTY because i tested a similar arrow and it didnt work.
      They have to take their time to be thorough and build up a proper case against the defendant, not just make a video like this.
      If you have ever seen how a court case proceeds then you would understand it is a very thorough system which tries to cover every corner/possibility.

      @Johan sigurdson do that here in the states outside of deer season and without a deer tag and the g&f department is gonna pay you a visit. Then you get to play house with Big Bubba in prison, and boy does he think you got a purdy mouth....

      I have shotgun blanks on tripwires around my garden to scare off the deer, you can get the devices online and they just mount to a fence post.

    Strikes me as just an idiot with a deer problem. He wasn't smart enough to know that even a blunt tip can kill if there is enough speed. He probably has a garden, deer kept going in and eating his food. Got mad, made a tip for hitting deer and scaring it off based off of those non lethal tips, and instead it penetrated and killed the thing. Definitely an idiot, probably not a poacher, and I'm betting there is a video of the incident that existed, because he is the smarts and wants to show the interweb peoples how to get rid of garden pests.

      Would be stupid to make a video of that in Germany because it's illegal to harm vertebrate for no sufficient reasons...
      Then he wouldn't be denounced for poaching but for animal abuse :P

      We already know he wasn't thinking too much. but I figure he probably assumed it was like giving a horse a whip with those riding crops. once again I am assuming, but it does look like he underestimated the power of a crossbow.

      I don't understand how he didn't know that it could lethally injure a deer, because Joerg said that the damage to the fletching indicated that he shot it all the way through an archery mat multiple times

    • @thunderx7826
      @thunderx7826 6 років тому +12

      Hallo Spaceboy The arrow was probably damaged because he shot it through the archery mat with a regular tip and when he wanted to scare away the deer he attached the blunt tip because he thought that it wouldn't injure the deer.

    Sounds like the guy who shoot the deer was experimenting with arrow heads, I think he tried to replicate a 12 gauge shotgun slug with a crossbow

    He is also a bad liar. I can think of a FAR better lie. For example, I was shooting my crossbow. I had this strange tips and I wanted to see if it could be accurate with these tips. I was at longer range and the target was in the tree line, in the shadows a bit. I fired and right then the deer stepped out of the shadows and bang, got hit. The deer ran off, but I did not think it was seriously injured. I had no idea these tips could do that much damage. In fact, I was not even sure I hit the deer at first.
    See, FAR better lie, I did not throw my daughter under the bus, my lie seems plausible, and it is much harder to disprove. Lying is a useful skill that people should practice more often. One thing you learn by practicing lying though is, they have diminishing return, so not creating a situation that would need a lie is far better then having to use your skill.

    Given the facts presented, the only thing that is *possibly* true is ... fired from a crossbow at a target, being a slightly rounded tip, it could have taken a skip and hit the deer. The father, fearing criminal charges, places the blame as a bow, not crossbow, at the hands of a minor and an accidental shooting. This avoids potential 'poaching' or 'providing access of a weapon to a minor' charges.
    That being said, Joerg is far more familiar with these things, so I believe him.

      Looks like a small game arrow head, so it was almost definitely intended for hunting, though whether he intended to hit the dear or was just a crap shot is up for debate.

    • @chadwheeler7482
      @chadwheeler7482 5 років тому +2

      Even If the arrow hit the ground with the arrow presented by Joerg skipped off the ground it will not have enough force to pierce the deer afterwards as it was already transferred to the ground. It is nearly impossible to "accidentally" hit a deer during target practice, unless it was a bullet and the deer "accidentally" stood behind a target.

      My guess is that the father or daughter foolishly thought shooting the deer wouldn't harm it. They probably thought it would be like shooting a bb gun.
