If lyrics aren't as important as the music itself then jazz/classical would be topping the billboards. And Frank Ocean's music is far from "boring as hell" so I don't even see how you can make that argument. Having great music plus amazing lyrics is an extra win compared to someone with great music and alright/good lyrics.
