I was driving from DC to Charlotte, NC. I was listening to the breakfast club interview with him on it. So I decided to give MALIBU a listen on Spotify. Would you believe me if I told you that I listened to the THE BIRD on repeat for 4 hours straight? I did not switch songs until I got to my hotel in CHARLOTTE. That's what you call good music. We need more like you PAAK. Need more like you bruh!

those guys, including Anderson .Paak, Big Baby D.R.A.M, Isaiah Rashad and more are changing the game at a speed we don't really conceive as it is happening before our eyes. Bringing back soul, funk and jazz roots to hip-hop, like a tribe called quest, the roots, d'angelo, erykah & the whole soulquarians crew did it at their time... Such a happy feeling to see this rise taking more and more amplitude

No matter how old or young you are, no matter where you come from and what ethnicity you are. You have to appreciate good music. Anderson .Paak always makes me happy, his music, his voice is a gift from heaven. Any time I am feeling down I always listen to Malibu. This albums speaks to everyone in a different way. With all the chaos going on in the world it is a good breath of fresh air to see this type of music is out there.

A bird with the word came to me
The sweetness of a honeycomb tree
And now my luck was taking over me
Couldn't fake it if I wanted to
I had to wake up just to make it through
I got my patience and I'm making do
I learned my lessons from the ancient roots
I choose to follow what the greatest do
A bird with the word came to me
The sweetness of a honeycomb tree
And now my luck was taking over me
Couldn't fake it if I wanted to
I had to wake up just to make it through
I got my patience and I'm making do
I learned my lessons from the ancient roots
I choose to follow what the greatest do
    [Verse 1]
I'm repping for the longest cycle, mm
My uncles had to pay the cost, mm
My sister used to sing to Whitney, mm
My mama caught the gambling bug, mm
We came up in a lonely castle, mm
My papa was behind them bars, mm
We never had to want for nothing, mm
Said all we ever need is love, mm
    We see the same things
    Oh-oh-oh
    We sing the same songs
    Oh-oh-oh
    We feel the same grief
    Oh-oh-oh
    Bleed the same blood
You grew up in the home beside me
I always had a friend to call
How could I make it here without you? MM
    I pray I leave before you're gone
    [Hook]
A bird with a word came to me
The sweetness of a honeycomb tree
And now I look, what's taking over me
Couldn't fake it if I wanted to
I had to wake up, just to make it through
I got my patience and I'm making do
I learned my lessons from the ancient roots
I choose to follow what the greatest do

I got my patience and I'm making do
I learned my lessons from the ancient roots
I choose to follow what the greatest do
    [Outro]
Hey, my little youth is crying
    I'm almost home, almost home
    Look no further riots, mm
Working my fingers to the bone
See I do the best I can, mm
    Mama was a farmer, mm
    Papa was a goner, mm

I love and honor this song so much. It's actually my life theme song as we speak.
It reminds me that regardless of all the odds stacked up against you, to follow the Greats and stay in the path of righteousness ANYWAY.
Though I know he's referencing musical Greats, I translate it to relate to my life and circumstances to the Greats before me that were righteous, ethical, morally straight and raw/authentic.
I'm so grateful for this song.

Isn't being a good musician what matters? Who cares how good lyrics are if the music itself is boring as hell. yoh just proved my point

    • @lotusfly7269
      @lotusfly7269 8 років тому +7

+eric garcia A good musician (that's well rounded anyways) pays attention to both. It's what makes the actual music itself timeless in a way especially when you an hum along to your favorite lyrics. If lyrics aren't as important as the music itself then jazz/classical would be topping the billboards. And Frank Ocean's music is far from "boring as hell" so I don't even see how you can make that argument. Having great music plus amazing lyrics is an extra win compared to someone with great music and alright/good lyrics.
