Learn Plus - Episode 27 - Commercial Lifestyle on Location

Commercial lifestyle images are meant to capture subjects in faux ‘real-life situations’. Generally, they appear to be showcasing a moment, though that moment is fully produced and meant to elicit an emotion to associate with a particular product or brand.
This is a well-paying niche of photography that has become an important part of my business income. I’ve photographed commercial lifestyle images for everything from eyelash brands, to hospitals, to health care programs. Of course, the need for these sorts of images reach into nearly every business segment; hotels, restaurants, tourism boards, retreats, dental, skincare, you name it!
In this episode we will be taking all of our images outside on location to create a fresh and natural look to commercial lifestyle imagery. You’ll see a combination of natural light, natural light modified, a subtle addition of a strobe, and a strobe to transform the scene.
Together we will craft photograph for a cafe, headphones, work-out gear, sunglasses and more. Remember to always ask yourself “Who is the client? What are we showcasing? How should the viewer feel? How can we achieve this in a ‘natural looking way’?
