    Hi Shirley, I have been experiencing dry eyes for a long time. It makes it hard for me to sleep, and sometimes painful. My TCM helped a lot, my condition improved after a few months of treatment. Currently I am maintaining with goji berry and chrysanthemum tea. I think I will apply your formula. Thank you very much.

      Hi @Thai-Phuong, I am glad to hear TCM has been helpful for your dry eyes symptoms. Yeah you could try this recipe and see how you go. Since you have already been taking goji berry and chrysanthemum tea, my recipe has an additional ingredient - Cassia seed. Please note that the cassia seed may cause mild diarrhoea, or I would say add it when you feel more 'heaty' than normal, or when you have constipation. Please double check with your TCM practitioner to see if adding Cassia seed is suitable for you. Take care!

      HI @Shaun, this herbal is meant to be help to support eye health, relieve dry eyes or red eyes caused by overuse. However, it is NOT meant to be able to reserve short-sightedness. I have short-sightedness since very young age as I didn't know how to look after my eyes. Please see this herbal tea as a support for eye health, it is definitely can't treat or cure short-sightedness or any other eye diseases. I hope this clarifies!

      Hi @a b , thank you and so happy that you love my videos. Thank you for your suggestion. However, nerve pain and inflammation are not something a herbal tea can help as these are more complex health conditions. It would be best you look for a local qualified Chinese Medicine practitioner to help you navigate these conditions. Herbal tea is great for everyday wellbeing, minor symptoms and as preventative measures. Hope this helps! Take good care and wishing you good health!

    • @ChineseHerbalPantry
      @ChineseHerbalPantry  3 роки тому

      @@golden3192 I am sorry to hear there are no Chinese Medicine practitioners where you are. If you don't mind me asking, where do you live? Chinese medicine is not like Western medicine. You have a headache or pain, then give paracetamol and most people will get results. Chinese medicine is very focused on individualised treatment, because we believe everyone is different and unique, and the symptoms presenting are very different from each person too. And we need to look at the overall symptoms, even if you go to see a Chinese medicine practitioner for nerve pain and inflammation, she/he will ask many seemingly unrelated questions, such as bowel motions, sleeping pattern, eating habit, feeling cold or warm etc. So, we can formulate an individualized herbal prescription for you. And this is where the power of Chinese medicine lies. So, I wish you all the very best and will be able to find a nearby Chinese medicine practitioner who can help you! Good luck!

      @@ChineseHerbalPantry you're welcome. Happy giving specific feedback - otherwise there's not much point. Likewise, I appreciate your reflections. What you share is fascinating. I'm pro natural approaches when they do the job with minimal negative effects. Both oriental and western have effects, no such thing as a side effect - the term is a marketing ploy. Various of my friends use, study and practice Chinese modalities. I have great respect for these, they appear to be holistic when comparatively, western health practices can be limited in addressing the symptoms and not the whole person. This said, both have their place and I negate neither.

      @Nyali, thank you for your thoughtful comments here! I totally agreed on what you mean by both medicines have their places! Especially being someone like me who practises both. When I further my studies in Shanghai, the Chinese medicine doctors are fully trained in both medicines. They give Chinese herbs and they can do chemotherapy and can do operation, and everything else a western doctor can do. It was a fascinating experience for me to see how they truly integrate both medicines!

    Can you please clarify on cassia seed tea usage. Can I replace my everyday green tea with it that I drink about 10 cups a day? I want to improve my aging (54) eyesight. How long before I notice any improvements? Thank you and love your detailed videos.

    • @ChineseHerbalPantry
      @ChineseHerbalPantry  Рік тому +1

      HI @David, I think one cup a day is good but NOT 10 cups a day. Please note that, as I mentioned in my video, cassia seed is a mild laxative (a stimulant laxative) which I don't recommend to use daily unless is necessary. Goji and chrysanthemum would be more suitable. As for long before you notice improvement, it is hard to tell as everyone is different. One thing to note that, I guess it is also depends on what you expect from it. Hey Elaine! Sorry for late reply. Yeah, I know, it is a useful tea for this time! As for children, I won't recommend Cassia seeds as it maybe a bit strong for its 'laxative' action. Goji berries are ok for kids. As for Chrysanthemum flowers, if the child doesn't have any allergy to flowers, then it is ok. However, give when there are heat signs and not for long term regular use without specific reason for kids.

      Hi @Marcelo, I am so sorry for late reply! Have been very busy with my family in Malaysia. Thanks for your warm wishes for my channel
      The reason why your herbs that are very similar to tea for eye health are labelled for purpose of protecting the liver is that eyes are connected to Chinese Medicine Liver according to Chinese Medicine theory. For example, the three herbs in my tea blend in this video are all can be beneficial to the Chinese Medicine Liver.
      As for the tea you mentioned, the herbs are mostly to clear heat and MAY be beneficial to the Chinese Medicine Liver. However, I won't go into the details of each herb here. Please also check with the seller or your TCM practitioner if you are suitable for this tea and how long or how often you can take this tea, and if there are times that you can't take this. Please also note Chinese Medicine Liver is not exactly the same as the Western Medicine organ, Liver.
      Hope the above helps! Take care and thanks again for watching my videos here! See you at my next video! 😊

      Hi @lisaola, ummm...... maybe that is your acupuncturist's clinical experience but it is not mine. As in, while goji berry can nourish 'TCM Kidney' which may affect libido, but not 'too much' as it is still considered a milder herb. In addition to that, everyone reacts to herb very differently, And, no, goji berry is not only for older people. We use it very widely both in medicine and in our tea, meals, and soups, even young people. Just my opinion. Since you are seeing your acupuncturist, I recommend you to consult her or him and use goji berry under her/his supervision, and work with her/him to see if it is suitable for you. All the best and keep me posted how you go! As I am curious to know if goji really high libido A LOT in young people!

If your TCM doctor gave you a pre-made packs of the tea, I would guess there are more ingredients in there, instead of just Wu Wei Zi. Maybe best to ask your TCM doctor to share her/his tea blends with you. Even if I teach you how to make it, it would be the same with what your TCM doctor gave you as I don't know what other ingredients they put in there. Hi Afnan, the 'hot' and 'cool' that I explained in the video is a concept we used to classify Chinese herbs. It is not about the temperature of the tea. So, you can drink when it is hot or cold. No problem at all.
      I am sorry I didn't explain clear enough in the video. In Chinese Medicine, we classified Chinese herbs, even food ingredients, to groups based on their actions in our bodies. So, when I say one particular herb is 'warming' in nature, it means if we consume it, in a nutshell, it can warm our bodies up. If I say one particular herb is 'cooling' in nature, it means it may 'cool' our bodies. One simple example is watermelon. You can feel the 'cooling' sensation when you eat it. It is just a simple way to explain it,. Hope this helps.
      Welcome to this channel and I hope I will make more videos to go deeper in Chinese medicine theories. Last but not least, enjoy the herbal tea!

    Hi, how long does it takes to pan-fry the cassia seeds? Thanks 💝

    • @ChineseHerbalPantry
      @ChineseHerbalPantry  2 роки тому +1

      Hi @Christina, there is no specific time as it depends on the amount you want to fry or the fire level you use (ideally low to medium only). One very important clue is to fry the cassia seeds till you hear gentle popping sounds of the seeds, then you can stop the frying the process. Hope this helps!

    Hello Sherley. If I boil the tea, delivers more benefits or is better like you did it?

    • @ChineseHerbalPantry
      @ChineseHerbalPantry  2 роки тому +1

      Hi @Connie, In this particular recipe, the cassia seeds and goji berries is better with boiling as you can extract more active ingredients through boiling. The particular chrysanthemum I use here is the baby chrysanthemum, hence using my method just brewing is good enough. So, if you want to be very specific, you can first boil the seeds and berries for about 10-15 minutes, and then add the chrysanthemum in the last 5 minutes. This will be the ideal way to make this tea 😊

      Hi @Kyle, interestingly you are the third person who asked me the same question this week!
      Umm.... I don't know any book that specifically on Chinese herbal tea. Unfortunately, there aren't many English books out there specifically just on Chinese herbal tea. Most of my books are in Chinese. Having said that, I used this one very big thick book (Healing with Whole Food). It has everything in there (Chinese medicine and western nutrition). It is like my reference book in English

      However, I feel it is too much for beginner.
      Also, I will be launching my online course in Apr or May. I will teach the basics of Chinese medicine, Chinese herbs and has one module for Chinese herbal tea, one for herbal dishes and one for herbal soup! Please sign up for my email if you like to be informed with updates 😄 Following is the link

    Hi Shirley, thanks for the info! Since it is a cooling tea, would it be suitable during the cold winter months? I am asking since eye strain could happen, irrelevant of the season.

    • @ChineseHerbalPantry
      @ChineseHerbalPantry  3 роки тому

      Hi @Rita, yes you can drink this during winter as long as your body nature is not very 'cold'. While eyestrain is common but this tea is not something we drink everyday without listening to our body. You need to learn how to listen to your body and how you response to this tea. I do teach this in my course too as everyone is different, so when we learn how to watch out for certain signs or symptoms or responses, then we will know if particular herbs suit us at a particular time.
      Also, during winter, if you have watched my 'Winter Wellness' video, we have a tendency to eat too much of 'warm' food which is natural. So, some times it is good to add a very small amount of 'cooling' herbs when our body start to feel 'too warm' due to too much of 'warm' food. There is no 'one rule' to everyone in Chinese medicine as we appreciate everyone is vastly different and our environment changes too.
      Hope the above helps! 💕

      Such a great question Yasmeen! They are similar in actions, yet similar different in terms of their efficacy in different functions if you want to be very specific about it. Yellow chrysanthemum is more for clearing heat and disperse wind (疏散风热). White chrysanthemum is more for 'pacify Liver Yang, clearing the Liver and slightly better for eye health'. Having said that, white chrysanthemum is not too easy to find. And yellow chrysanthemum also has the similar functions, so I am not fussed! Hope the above helps!

    Could this tea also help lower cholesterol?

    • @ChineseHerbalPantry
      @ChineseHerbalPantry  Рік тому

      Hi @Keila, curious why you asked this question. Have you seen any articles suggest this tea may lower cholesterol? I did a quick search, there are not many clinical trials for the ingredients in this tea that suggest any of them have cholesterol-lowering effect. There are a couple of small trials out there but they are not enough to prove this function. Being a pharmacist myself, I want to give unbiased view that are also based on science. High cholesterol without proper management may have severe consequences, so please speak with your family doctor for proper management. And of course, I can't stress enough about preventative measures, such as dietary modification, exercise and more. Take care!

    • @keilawilliams4543
      @keilawilliams4543 Рік тому

      I have read a few things that mention cassia seeds and chrysanthemum flowers effects on cholesterol. But of course I don't mean that it will cure it alone. I assume this would be in conjunction with a healthy diet.

    • @ChineseHerbalPantry
      @ChineseHerbalPantry  Рік тому

      @Keila, yeah there are a few clinical trials floating out there. Some of the sample sizes are small, and some are on rats. So they are not conclusive and need more investigation. Yeah, absolutely, please do it with a healthy diet, exercise etc. You can incorporate this tea as part of your tea-drinking habit, and see how things go. But beware of the laxative effect of cassia seeds, and both ingredients are cooling. And yes, do not solely rely on it. Sometimes when questions come in such as this, I just don't want to mislead or don't give the full picture. Please also check your cholesterol yearly to ensure it is at a healthy level. Take care!

      When I compared the functions we use them for, there are some similarities. It is interesting how different cultures use their local herbs for similar uses. I found this article that listed the Chinese version under the same article (it is called Ba Qia). You can find the article here www.healthline.com/health/food-nutrition/sarsaparilla
      Although this article doesn't talk about the Chinese version particularly, I think it is a good general and balanced view of sarsaparilla.
