Just discovered these videos, really enjoyed watching! Thanks for telling us the story of the iconic G ❤👏🏼
Huge G- fan here (while driving a BMW...).
This video is a joy to watch. Good content, nice footage and amusing presentation. Well done and looking forward to the next episode!
They forget by 80s like 82-83 the whole vehicle was sold to Bajaj tempo a Daimler subsidiary in india. And whole manufacturing and assembly done in india in 80s.
Now the same company renamed to force motors sells the very same car with heavily modified om616 engine bs6.2 or euro 6 + compliant state producing 140 ps and obviously with a 1.5ton air conditioner 5 doors and front and rear diff locks.
Probably the best and accurate and complete history of the G made on UA-cam. From new enthusiasts and without BS. Looking forwards to the next.
Those bloopers 😊 keeping it real. Loved all the old footage you found!
Wonderful video. I really enjoyed the backround knowledge to the G Wagon!
This is the most stylish modern SUV with timelss design. Dont see them often on the US roads.
Thank you for posting guys!
Miami has entered the chat.. they are everywhere..
The best vehicle presentation I have ever watched !! Most enjoyable. Go well and enjoy the G-Wagon.
PS PS PS !!! I am not able to find episodes 3 and 4 of this series on YT - any solution ?
Very interesting, great delivery.
Thanks Man! That means a lot.

NICE TRIBUTE TO THE HISTORY OF THE GELÄNDEWAGEN👍🏼
You put in allot of research in this. Very nice piece of automotive history. Looking forward to the next episodes
Thanks Bas! Yes this was a lot of work to put together, but it was fun too. Glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent video. Looking forward to part 2.
Thanks Albert. We're working on it!
12:06 actually the Bundeswehr had trials for a new vehicle in the late 70s. They agreed to purchase a new vehicle the VW Iltis, that replaced the DKW Munga. When the VW Iltis was dismissed the time of the G Wagon in the Bundeswehr began.....
Thank you for adding this. When we eventually to a 2.0 version we‘ll keep this in mind. Or maybe a separate video series on the vehicles of the Bundeswehr!?
Great video! Lifelong G fan and I learnt some stuff! Thanks.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I just discovered this channel two day’s ago and will take possession of a 250gd wolf soon. Love the channel and am learning a lot. Keep it up
Awesome Nick! Please send us some pictures when you do!
From the UA-cam company that converts the military wolfs ?
@nickkendrick1011 ...is it restored or a project? I can't find much info on 250 wolf. I see a lot on 230, 280, 300
Wow nice video, always to hear the history of my favorite vehicle!
Super. My son bought a '96 G 350...Fab...Thanks
Great video! Very interesting history!
Great video! Gunther Holtorf has published a photographic account of Otto’s journey in his book, Otto. It’s in German but not hard to follow. I’m not Herr Holtorf’s publicist but it is a great book and it helped me through lockdown! There are also a few videos of Otto on UA-cam.
that sounds like a great coffee table book. I will keep a lookout for it. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Friends- One clarification. The Shah of Iran had purchased 4x4s from USSR but they would tend to overheat. He approached Daimler as he wanted a military 4X4 and not so much as a personal vehicle to go hunting. The Shah did use his Range Rovers for hunting trips and skiing at his chalet in Switzerland. Thanks.
He seems like a Range Rover kind of guy so that would make sense. We read of other motives as well though. Thanks for throwing in your 2Cents. We will keep that in mind for when we shoot a 2.0 version.
Ihr seid echt stark!
Danke Michael!
Excellent documentary
Good work. Very comprehensive history. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Feel free to share it with a friend. We could use some more views.
A little correction on the model lineup. The 230GE came about only in 1982, and preceding was the 230G, which continued to be available for export out of Europe with the M115 until 1986, and with the M102 until 1991
Also, when the OM602 replaced the OM616 the car was rebadged 250GD.
Lastly, for the Italian market there was a lower displacement 200GE model.
I remember when you started . I have been subscribed for a long time . what did you guys do with your BBQ set up ? Thank you Frank from montana...
We sold it last year. See our video for more info: ua-cam.com/video/YredJK4bWZU/v-deo.html
Appreciate you Frank!
Great Video! Well done....
Thank you Dave! Glad to hear it.
he first generation G-Wagon was named W460 because it was the 460th internal project number assigned by Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz uses a system of internal project numbers to track its vehicles during development. The project number is typically assigned when the vehicle is first proposed, and it is used to track the vehicle's progress through the development process.
The W460 project was started in the early 1970s, and the first production vehicles were built in 1979. The W460 was a joint project between Mercedes-Benz and Austrian engineering firm Steyr-Daimler-Puch. Steyr-Daimler-Puch had a lot of experience building off-road vehicles, and they were responsible for the design and development of the W460's chassis and drivetrain.
Waiting for the next parts!!
Great job
Cool video nice info

Nice prononciation for VLTT ;)
Merci beaucoups!
13:26 Actually Gunther was not a pilot. If I remember correctly he was working in managment of a airline. Does not make his story less impressive....
As this is somewhat dear to my heart i have to "correct" something: the city of Steyr had nothing to do with the G or the Manufacturing of it. The city of Steyr is the namesake of one of the oldest (still active) Weapons manufacturer in europe, and this company at some point merged with Puch (in Graz) and Austro Daimler to form "Steyr-Daimler-Puch". Austro Daimler and Puch were the main vehicle specialists. (A somewhat famous guy called Ferdinand Porsche worked for Austro Daimler before WW1 ;-) ) The Offroad vehicle specialty part was in Graz. Both the Haflinger and the Pinzgauer were develloped and built by in Graz. And the testtrack on the Schöckl was already in use for those vehicles. It wasn't extra built for the G. The testament (and goal) to how good the G was offroad, was that it could master this track. As no "car" could go there. (little sidenote for the newest model: it was tested there too. The goal was that after 2000km on this track nothing must fail or be loose in any kind, or must there be any ratteling inside the cabin. They weren't going slow either. So this is quite the test to achieve!)
Please do not insult our King, Shah of Iran. He was NEVER kicked out of power (as you said), he simply left the country since he did not believe it would be civilized to stay in power when the Army and Police would have to shoot and kill demonstrators. He simply did not believe in violence against his own people. Also the specification for G Wagon came from the Iranian military, not Shah of Iran. Our King was too busy to determine which jeep chassis was appropriate for the Iranian military. A key specification was that the vehicle would be repairable under war condition in the field without requiring to be shipped back to a repair shop. That is why you see so many hours of manual assembly is required to assemble one. Thank you
My 2002 starts everytime. (Knocks on wood)
A Gelandewagen with wheels over 18 inches are...🤔😏 Cheers from me in Norway with my ultra low mileage 2006 G55 AMG with 305/60/18 wheels😃
🌿Hey you guys,
I’m sorry for all the calamity going on in your country, in all of Western Europe…and to ALL OUR GLOBAL FAMILY!
I hope that all those families 🇩🇪🇳🇱🇦🇹🇧🇪who have lost so much find peace and comfort, in a gentle and brighter tomorrow 🙏🏽
Thanks so much Bernie! Thankfully our families and friends have not been directly impacted but thousands of families have lost everything.
What happened to this channel? Is it completely gone? I hope that you are all okay.
M-B Geländewagen 🇩🇪💪💪👍👆🎥👍
He was looking for military vehicles not just for hunting only so you better don’t saying anything bad about our worst of bad dictator 😂😂😂
