"Chaos Emeralds are optional"
The final Fight: "Am I a Joke to you?"
I'm surprised he hasn't talked about the PC version of the special stages.
At the very least, the game’s soundtrack is amazing. Which version you say?
YES
I personally think the genesis version just because of green grove
@@El_Mince Diamond Dust and Panic Puppet do it for me
Genesis to me
No guys its saturn
It’s both
Man, Sonic had a really rough transition into isometric 2D
I always assumed this is what the 'rough transition' was because IMO SA1 is as good a transition as you could have expected in 1999
@@noaht2005honestly when people say that, they don't know what they are talking about
@@noaht2005SA1 was NOT a good transition it was a ROUGH one
@@geekume5539Yes they do. Rough transition is what sonic is known for
@@firestriker3580 why do you care so much?
When he started talking about chores and how boring they are I expected a sponsor for some reason.
I wish
This guy desperately wants to stop making Sonic videos, but feels trapped cos his non-Sonic videos don't perform as well.
It is eating him up inside.
Nice.
If he just bit the bullet, and diversify his content, he would lose grand viewership on many of his videos, but he would eventually gain a wider audience. It’s just a big risk to take if this happens to be his only source of income.
He should make videos of him failing at megaman games. I would watch that.
@@ABCodeX he should take the risk. I know he perhaps amps it up for comedic value but watching a guy make content just cos he feels forced to shows. You can tell the passion ain’t there on a deeper level.
To be honest, I didn't sub specifically for the *Sonic* rewrites, but rather the fact that they were rewrites of kinda meh stories... which just happens to have some notable crossover with Sonic.
Maybe I'm a bit of an outlier in that, though.
I can’t help but feel like Garrulous is starting to dislike Sonic….like he’s doing these videos against his will…desperately wanting to move on to other interests and make videos about said interests…but he can’t because he knows if he does anything else that isn’t related to Sonic…it won’t get nearly as much attention….I feel kinda sorry for the guy.
He also hearted your comment which is a bad sign....
Very bad sign... I mean I hope he won't go as far as hating sonic altogether but if he will then the world will not blow up... *right?*
Y'know if people brought this game up instead of Sonic Adventure as proof that "Sonic had a rough transition to 3D" they actually might have had a leg to stand on.
Not really. Sonic Adventure was very rough around the edges, and even the centre wasn't that smooth.
@@ShadowdaHedgie11 Whaddya mean? Adventure’s a fun game (in my and a lot of other people’s opinion) and very stable. It also looks pretty nice (minus character models ofc)
@@El_Mince It can be fun, sure. If you're playing as Sonic or Tails. Knuckles stages are a bit of a chore, E-102's can be alright at best, Amy's are even more of a chore than Knuckles', and Big's... are best not mentioned. So that's a big chunk of the game that's not really too good. As for being stable... not really, no. It's got quite a few glitches. And considering the focus on a plot the character models being messed up is a fairly big problem.
@@ShadowdaHedgie11 a big chunk? That’s 7 levels out of, like, 40. Besides, if you’re half competent at games, they’re a breeze. Also, knux and E 102 have good levels
@@El_Mince The game only actually has 11 stages. If you really wanna count the stages like that though, Sonic has 10, Tails has, what, 5? So that’s 25 out of 40. Which I think qualifies as a 'big chunk' when it’s over half the stages.
Knuckles' stages were a chore, especially since I’m fairly sure the location of the shards changes if you die. E102's were interesting, but in the end, not that great. You'll also note, I never said any were hard. Just that Knuckles' were a chore, E-102's we’re ok at best, Amy's were even more of a chore than Knuckles, and far more tedious, and Big's are best not mentioned, and were practically shoehorned in for the sake of a fishing controller.
In regards to the question of the day. The Best 3D Sonic Game in my opinion (in terms of story) is Sonic Adventure 2. But in terms of Gameplay, The first Sonic Adventure. It's jank as all hell and that's what makes it great, plus I don't think any other 3D Sonic comes close to how great it feels to go fast in Sonic Adventure 1
Sonic Adventure 2 is overrated
@@Idonthaveausernameyet It is, but it's at least a light year more polished than Adventure.
I recognize that Adventure does many things better than its successor, but a big part of why people can even enioy that game is because they've been playing it for years. They've learned to avoid and play around its roughness. But that's still really not their responsibility and I think one of the reasons SA2 has aged so well to so many is because it's got a lot less breakage. You can hand the controller over in Adventure 2 a person who's never played a Sonic game before and while they'll probably get killed, it will almost certainly be the result of their inexperience, and thus bad play, not the result of a glitch, the more likely scenario with Adventure, especially if they come to any loops. SA2 definitely has plenty of its own jank, but that jank usually isn't going to fuck with regular play very much.
@@Idonthaveausernameyet If your only critique of something is "it's overrated", then you don't have a criticism
I personally prefer Adventure 2 overall in terms of both gameplay and story (still love Adventure 1 tho), but I'll easily admit that Sonic's Adventure 1 stages are the best translation of 2d Sonic into 3d that we've ever been given. Even Mario had to change the level structure a bit more for 3d.
my favorite 3d sonic is generations
The Genesis version will forever hold a place in my heart.
4:38 - I'm going to need picture proof here, please.
7:58 - Says about throwing his Sega Saturn away while showing the Mega Drive footage... 😝
9:39 - The problem wasn't the fact it wasn't funny but all the way through this video it was so obvious you didn't want to do this game. And any positives you gave like the music for example, you just briefed it and moved on. You shouldn't do something because you feel like you have to as it'll do more damage otherwise. Also, I warned you to play the PAL version to have a better time! 😝
Hello mr redhotsonic
Big fan
Can you play sonic hellfire saga on haloween.
If not it's ok.
What the bleedin' heck is a Mega Drive?!
@@andrewwdavvid - What the heck is Adobe Premiere? 😝
OUCH low blow
1:32 Many Sonic CD US Soundtrack fans and both soundtrack enjoyers woke up.
"And they scatter like a spider in the wind"
Me: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ah, I see you also emulated the Saturn version. Sonic jittering left and right in the special stages is a very strange bug with the emulation and I have absolutely no idea why it happens.
It's extremely frustrating lmao
Its like this dude really wants to diversify his content but can't because they don't perform as well as sonic related stuff. Its a big risk to take but will gain you a wider audience in the end. Personally I'm content with your videos solely because of how you present them, i find it really entertaining and funny so I hope you branch out to other things.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I do have some other stuff in the pipeline that i'm excited to work on!
He obviously is a Nintendo fan.
QOTD: I haven't been able to make up my mind on which is my favorite but I think the ones I like the most are the Adventure games, Colors, and Generations.
Wise choice
This is going to be controversial but Sonic 06 and Sonic Forces appeal to me the most. Sonic 06 because it's got a really good soundtrack and I personally like the story (even though it's not perfect and the events of the story being retconned makes me want a sequel that takes the place of the original Sonic 06 in the Sonic timeline) and Sonic Forces because of its soundtrack and the mods and rewrites/fanfiction it inspired.
even though this game is flawed I still genuinely really like it and find it a lot of fun. I always found it deeply satisfying to collect all the Flickys and a ton of fun to run around the stages after clearing the enemies. I can understand why people dislike it but I will always enjoy it and hope that at some point it can get polished up more so it can become even better
Did anyone notice that he used the DX port for Volcano Valley, Gene Gadget, and Panic Puppet zone instead of the Saturn version like the other stages.
I guess he was that fed up.
My playthrough got lost halfway through so i just used old footage
Props to Jon Burton for going back to this years later and saying "okay, let's make it a bit more tolerable" with the director's cut. The only problem with that version (aside from the fact that the core game still won't win over everyone) is that since the Saturn port is not on steam, that version is now left behind. At least its soundtrack (which I adore) is pretty easy to find on youtube
I honestly share the exact thoughts as the title of the video, I personally don’t like Sonic 3D Blast. But that’s just me.
Also my personal favorite 3D Sonic title is Colors, I would put Generations, but I only have the demo of that one so, I can’t count something I haven’t fully played.
Please play generations please I beg you it’s my favourite sonic game of all time except from mania
I've Played Generations And I Can Say That It's A Good Game, The Lack Of Story And The Final Boss Music Just Being The Time Eater Theme Is Bad, But Other Than That, Good Game!
Generations is a very good game and I recommend it. The only real issue is that it’s very short and the story isn’t that interesting. But the gameplay and level design is great and the challenges and red rings add replayability.
@@ProMaxElite Colours is stupidly short too.
@@purplowso Personally I think the almost non-existent story in Generations is a good thing, mostly because the writers at the time (Pontac and Graff) have shown in multiple ocassions that they are incapable of good writing and characterization, at least when it comes to Sonic, so having to put up with their writing for as little as possible for what's still the best 3D Sonic game in over a decade was a good thing.
Imagine sonic 3D blast being the original idea of sonic 3...good thing it didn't go ANY further then just the idea of making 3D, the official sonic 3
Secret end of video club member here to report I like Sonic 3D and find it to be possibly the easiest Sonic game.
Best 3D Sonic game...
Surprising no-one, I'd probably say Sonic Adventure 2.
In my Opinion, Rusty Ruin Act 1 is the best track in the saturn OST.
Panic Puppet Act 1 is my favorite in the OST
The best version of Sonic 3D Blast/Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island is the director's cut version because you can save and load your progress and you can play as Super Sonic and there's a time attack mode for the levels. Plus, in the director's cut version of the game, Tails and Knuckles are found in Gene Gadget and Panic Puppet.
Dylan. Have I ever listened to anyone's warning?
Clearly not lol
Hey sorry to hear this sonic marathon is driving you crazy! For what it's worth I enjoyed the Crash and Mega Man videos a lot and would love to see more of those in the future! (And other things too because you do a lot of things)
Generations is the best, baby!
For years, Sonic 3D Blast on the Saturn was my only Sonic game, and against all odds I'm a huge Sonic fan still. I think I have SatAM to thank for that.
well according to one of the developers on sega back in 1996, the programming of sonic xtreme was a nightmare not 3d blast.
Yea Sonic 3D Blast's development went by pretty smooth. Though the Saturn version did pretty much have to be rushed in the case of X-treme's cancellation.
As someone who unironiclly really enjoys Sonic 3D Blast. I'd give my two sence into this discussion.
Level Design wise, I really do like the more open level design. It doesn't get too boring for me, and finding the Flickies isn't too hard for me, and I've only ever beaten the game twice. Heck, the amount of secrets is really cool. It was only recently I found out there was a secret hole in Rusty Ruin that sends you back into a previous section where Knuckles or Tails is waiting for you.
Controls wise, while slippy, it kinda works for me. They feel tight imo and I can manage to get a good amount of speed and go through a good amount of the map uninterrupted. I know practice shouldn't make the controls manageable, and while it takes a bit to get used to, if your being smart with your spin attack and ball rolling, you shouldn't be missing Badnicks too much.
Music Wise, well It's obvious that it's one of the best OST's in the series, you brought up how the Saturn Ost doesn't sound like Sonic, and I definitely agree, but I'd argue that the SEGA Saturn Era had the same effect, both with Sonic Jam and Sonic R, but I think that's more a product of its time.
Special Stage wise, Mega Drive Special Stages worked fine for me, I can manage to get through them with enough rings to spare, and it's nice they have elevated spots so you can catch your breath and adjust your location if a big trail of rings are dead ahead.
Saturn Special stages are fantastic, amazing looking graphics with the best Half Pipe design, while also having a subtle but meaningful Momentum Physics. The Ring gates that count down the amount of rings you can get by collecting it, will reward you more rings if you keep up momentum and skillful play, it's super rewarding.
In my opinion, Sonic 3D Blast was a great bridge point between Sonic 3 and Sonic Adventure, and it must mean Something as Sonic 3D Blast, majority of the time, is concidered Mainline by the Social Media team.
I'll always have a soft spot for it, but while it does have noticeable flaws, I honestly believe it's positives out way its negatives.
Either way, long reply I know, but I wanted to just give my opinion on the discussion. Great video though, was really paced well and had a good amount of good jokes, keep it up dude! 🙏
Hey, Garrulous! What are your thoughts on how the Deadly Six are portrayed in the IDW comics?
Also...
IDRIS ELBA IS VOICING KNUCKLES.
They're a little better.
McChicken: Sublime
Hugh Newtron: Master of all
What would happen if the final stage was scrambled egg zone will you go even more insane?
"A Normal Tuesday Night for Wario"
That sounds like a Fan Game title
The game is _way_ better in PAL. That whole 83% speed thing actually works in favour of us Europeans, for once.
Me:just played this game*
Also me:this game is a nightmare
SEGA:you have been given this video to watch
I remember SUBARASHII had a special stage based on this game
Understandable that Sonic 3D Blast isn’t THE greatest game but in my mind it’s a good game and I prefer the Saturn over the Genesis in my opinion.
Sonic truly had an rocky 3D transition
Always been on the fence with Sonic 3D (only had the Genesis version). Never felt it was bad overall, but not great either.
As for QOTD, I love Sonic Adventure. It's immensely jank, but it's a fun ride. SA2 is much more refined and streamlined at its core, but SA1's story, multi-character/mechanic flow and being able to screw around in the hub areas, really appeal to me. Big the Cat did nothing wrong.
you could say the game was fine,it wasnt bad nor great
the worst part really is that every level is an ice level
Sonic 3d Blast:
-Good Music
-Special stages (sega saturn version)
-No SPEED!
The no speed is probably a good thing because
Hazards n Enemies.
Person: Which Sonic 3D Blast ost do you prefer?
Me: *yes*
I know Iizuka was part of a group that designed this game. But the way it turned out, I believe Iizuka pushed the team into creating this mess. Fantastic music though my gawd its really good.
Do you know when I saw the thumbnail for this I thought that this was a game that uses those weird 3-D glasses that Sega once had Not what is actually Sonics first romp in 3-D
I agree that this game isn't super great. I played it as a kid on Sonic Mega Collection Plus, and never cared to get past Rusty Ruin Zone. That said, have you heard about Sonic 3D Blast Directors Cut? It was made by the original programmer and has some nice quality of life improvments. Never tried it myself. QOTD: My vote goes to Adventure 2! The treausre hunting and mech stages were pretty decent (and get more fun if you're high score/rank chasing), but Sonic and Shadow's levels were just sublime!
Man I can’t wait for *Sonic 3D Blast Ultimate* where we get a fully remixed soundtrack, a new soundtrack/graphics and all of the Flickies are replaced with wisps.

THE SONIC BLAST GAME GEAR ENJOYER
My cousin used to play the Saturn version of this game every Christmas growing up,and me and my sister(mostly me) would watch him as he did it. Though, I remember him only doing that for one Christmas. Still, it was fun to watch him get to the final boss all the way from the beginning.
For the record, btw, I was, like, 7 or 8, and so was my cousin. My sister's a little over a year older.
As for best 3D Sonic game, I love Adventure but I gotta go with Generation, and not just in terms of fanservice, either.
Ironic that I was playing Sonic 3D Blast before watching this
I think you might be overreacting a bit there.
Actually, on another note, here's a neat idea. If you want to focus on franchises other than Sonic, why not try looking at some of Sega's other games? You know, games like "Virtua Fighter", "Ecco the Dolphin", "Daytona USA", etc.
This was actually the first sonic game I ever played
Try Sonic 3D in 2D, you’ll love it
I was just quietly reminiscing to myself about this game and then this shows up in my recommended videos.
I atucally like 3D blast I like the graphics, the story, the lore, game play, and the sound track 8/10. Also my favorite 3D sonic game is SA1,Generations,SA2,Unleashed,and Heros.
glad to know im not the only one that enjoys 3D Blast

I can't look at Hugh Neutron anymore without thinking of him being in Nick All-Star Brawl

You feel "Zone"? Sorry to hear that.
Ugh the textures are so gray and brown in the Saturn version. Honestly I grew up with the Genesis version and I actually like this game but it's definitely an acquired taste.
" or as i like to call it a normal tuesday night for wario"

_Garrulous 2023_
At least it wasnt Sonic Blast....
Genesis has easier special stages and easier emerald earning, since u arent restricted to one emerald per act. You can get 2 per act. Not that getting the final fight boss is particularly fun.
7:05 = AAAAAARRRRRRGH!!!!
I love that he just randomly switched to the Genesis version.
6:05 no dont say no NOOOOOO
I do like myself a cooked Mc Sonic 3d blast.
the good things only lasted 3 minutes
mama mia
fun fact me and my sister loved to play this game.
and us being dumb kids thought that after spring stadium we where now rescuing elemental birds because of the ice one being blue and the glitched purple bird looking like a phoenix.
this stopped AFTER we finally learned how to beat that hideous boss in VV act, and saw no special bird for GG or PP.
Fun fact: The boss theme used in sonic 4 was an unused boss theme in 3D Blast!
I love this game very fascinating title and very unique as well also the only difficult part of this game is to keep control of sonic and also To keep track of all the flickys you've saved as well but other then that sountrack for both versions are absolutely fantastic and really well done
Sonic 3D blast? More like Sonic 3D blasphemy!
Hey if you don't like this 3d blasts gameplay I recommend you play sonic 3d blast in 2d it has the same zones and music but it plays in the 2d sonic style
I WAS LITTERALLY JUST PLAYING THIS GAME
"My totally legit console I was using to play it"
Psssst... Hey uhm... where can I find that Sega Saturn emulator? Don't worry I won't tell the cops
Why dose your footage swap to the md version half way through this review
one of the 3d blast boss music for the genesis sounds like jojo's bizarre adventure music look it up.
Maybe I'm one of those weirdo's that think the Genesis soundtrack is vastly superior....
Idea: Leave all your flickies next to the goalring, and have only Sonic until getting the flickies and going to the goal.
By the way there's a is a rom hack of this game At least the Genesis version anyway that has No Flicky's I know you probably know that
I've played it before. It was still fairly tedious and awkard, but better than the base game
I know that you will never see this but can you please do a Sonic Iceberg explained. I know that many people have done the Sonic Iceberg but I would still want to see you do it
I feel like that Paper Mario t-shirt is the only piece of clothing Garrulous owns. It’s all he wears each video lmao.

@@Garrulous64 Ah right. Makes sense then. But man, that must’ve been exhausting recording three videos in one day.

You forgot to mention that some of the genesis music got re used for sonic adventure
I think the best 3D Sonic game would be Sonic Unleashed.
QOTD: The adventure games, particularly 1 and 2, and also Unleashed and Colors
played it.
*never again.*
Why do I feel a strange connection of sonic labyrinth here
Question of the Day- If we look at the common criticism of 3D Sonic games
- too much story
- too many characters
- automation
Sonic Jam is the best 3D Sonic game. It excludes all of the "bad" elements and is technically a "open world" game. I know SA1 could be an answer but Jam is too nostalgic for me, lol
QOTD: Best 3D Sonic game? It's between Adventure and Generations for me.
2:50 Wait, any day your playing sonic is a bad day? 😂
sonic 3D blast is my 3rd favorite sonic game
Still waiting for the Sonic advance 3 review
"I would have ejected it from my totally real console..." Yeah totally real...
I remember when I was a kid that totally loved Sonic, I would play Mega Collection for hours upon hours. On the classics, of course.
Even when I was too young too understand the meaning of the word criticism, I would occasionally try to play 3D Blast, probably play through Green Grove, and immediately shut it off and go to another game.
It blows. Mad respect towards the developers, though. They put a lot of effort and technical trickery into making this game. It just didn't turn out to be very fun to play in my opinion.
9:38
Then why not take a break from Sonic games for a while?
Most chores are quick and easy.
Sonic can't afford a McChicken lol
