Great comparison. Every time I thought well what about ... your video addressed it. I especially like that you compared the pens on both watercolor paper and card stock. I have both and like them both, just for very different purposes.
The streaky effect/non-full coverage you're getting with the Zig Clean Color brushes is only because you're not going slowly enough for the much finer (extra fine, even), tips. You can't expect a fine/extra fine tip to keep up with a medium/large tip when covering larger areas. I just thought that was a bit unfair to the Zigs. Also, not sure how you're defining "marker" and "waterbrush/brush marker." When the industry makes that distinction they're referring to the type of nib - the mechanics, if you will, not the ink. By that definition, they are both waterbrushes/brush markers. If you're referring to what is inside... It's my understanding the Zig CCs contain actual watercolor. I'm not sure about the JDs, but if it's dye-based, as I think you said, then i would call that "ink" rather than watercolor, much like an Inktense pencils (the JDs,, although not permanent?), compared to a watercolor pencil (the Zig CCs.) After they each dry completely, can they be reactivated, or are they permanent? Do either of these manufacturers/distributors offer Lightfast info? That's something I think is very important... Thank you so much for this video! I don't yet have either, but hope to rectify that situation before too very long, so I have a lot of questions. 😜
Yes, I have purchased both and the JD water brush pens are filled with a pigment based ink versus the Tombow Clean Color Zig Real Brush pens which is basically water color.
The Tombow Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers are not any more expensive than the JD brush pens from what I've seen. In fact a set of 12 of the JD brand comes out to about $3 per pen and a set of 24 TB Real Brush pens are about $69 which is less than $3 each.
This is a very helpful comparison!! I have both and your demonstration is going to help me figure out how best to use them. The JD's are scarce; I found one set left in my Michaels when all the watercolors and markers had been sold out already. I guess one set was hiding somewhere :) They did get them back in later, but sold right out again!
P.S. Also. the clean color has never skipped and l’ve used them a very long time & they are cheaper than J.D. ‘s. I really think you have a defective set as my brushes are not so short
Not at all. I've had my set for months and totally love them. I felt like this review was a bit biased against the Zig Clean Colors. They are one of my favorite mediums.
By means of barrel/usage style Mermaid Markers are similar to Wink of Stella/Luna markers or Kuretake Brush pen no:24 not to Clean Color Real Brush markers
I still like zig clean color real brush because they are everywhere in the art supply store and easy to find, jane davenport....she only sell online and australia..
Random Like Jane Davenport's were available in Michael's arts and crafts stores, as well as online and Australia, at first. Now they are available through all independent arts and crafts stores that wish to carry them, as per Jane herself via Creativation 2018.
Here is some information on Jane Davenport Mermaid markers. Mermaid markers are NOT anything like a Zig or Watercolor Markers. These Mermaid markers are aqua water brushes that are filled with water and semi-permanent pigment. The water brushes are the same as Prime Marketing water brushes. As the Mermaid markers come apart like any other water brush when the color has become empty they can be used again and again. You can add just water for a regular water brush or add pigment and make your own colors. There are Dr. Martin Hydrocolor liquid watercolor, dye inks, and powder pigments to add with water and put in your water pens. The Jane Davenport colors are very unique and you will not get these colors in any other products. All her products are the same color in whatever the medium so they mix and match. Note: The Mermaid markers are semi-permanent watercolor ink so when dry they do not reactivate like watercolor.
sorry, I've got to correct you on one point - All of Jane's products are NOT the same color - but they still mix and match. Each medium is DIFFERENT; NO TWO ARE THE SAME. I think that is the beauty of all of her different supplies. You are NOT going to get the same color in the Mermaid markers as you would in her pastels, or her inks, or color sticks, etc......
I just checked my clean color markers & they have a much longer nib than yours. That didn’t give a fair comparison, as l see it. Also there are only 80 colors, not over 100. I have the complete set. I’ll stick with my aaacclean Color
downside from the zigs is that some dont hold up to their color with the water and you cant refill them, it is more an ink much like a tombow were as jane davenport is more watercolor like a spectrum noir aqua markers or w&n watercolor markers. Some brushpens say they are dye based, like memento, but react like archival ink - only w/o the stain on my stamp, lol - so it is worth to check for reviews and read the comments,so you know when it is a retail review as to a personal review when comments are different. If you concider a zigpen my advise would be to take the tombow instead, tombow leaves less blodges - i have both -
Omg! Biased much? Ok, I get it. You prefer the Zigs. But you shouldn't fib. Jane Davenports Mermaid markers are and have always been $39.99 for a pack of 12. The Zig Clean Color markers are $41.76 for a pack of 12. And those prices are both from Simon Says Stamp. So, why would you say the Mermaid markers are expensive in comparison to the Zigs?
April Brown I don't know, I just checked Amazon myself and Amazon is selling them (Zig CC) for $30.74 w/ free shipping. The cheapest seller was $28.73 w/1.98 shipping and Blick was listed there as well selling them for $26. something and $4.99 shipping. Maybe you saw a used set of 12? Jane Davenport's original 12 Mermaid Markers are listed (on Amazon) as $21.98. Still cheaper. I just don't understand her comment at the end of the video that JD Mermaid markers being more expensive than Zig. Other than she's biased.😁And that's fine. She should just be honest about it. Because it's not a fair comparison. Ack, I've a headache now. It's too much work defending myself. Lol! It's really ridiculous, trying to make comparisons. Demonstrations and reviews are fine, but pitting two products against eachother is just silly when we want them ALL anyway. I mean, afterall, the more crafting supplies the better. On a more positive note, thank you for directing me to Amazon. Their prices are...amazing! Now I'm going to go buy both! Lol! Happy crafting! 👩🎨💟
I just love watching these spread into action, mostly the Jane Davenport markers... truly strong!
Great comparison. Every time I thought well what about ... your video addressed it. I especially like that you compared the pens on both watercolor paper and card stock. I have both and like them both, just for very different purposes.
Quite different. The brush on the Jane Davenport brushes remind me of the Spectrum Noir sparkle pens. TFS!
i think the Jane d ones might be refilled with a liquid watercolor of your choice like Distress spray stains ;-)
You know I'm going to try that!!! :D
Thanks. I really appreciate the comparison.
Linda
Great comparison. Thanks so much. I haven't seen the Jane Davenport markers yet

great video! I have the 48 pack of Zigs, I like them
thank you i have been wanting this exact review
u can get these mermade markers on amazon for 20
Really great review, thank you very much for this helpful video! Hugs from Germany
If you move the Zig Brush more slowly, it is pretty juicy. The JD, seem a little leaky to me. But that's just me. I love your reviews, Jenny!
Do the Zig Clean Color markers leaves stroke lines when coloring an image? thank you
Not at all. I've had my set for months and totally love them. I felt like this review was a bit biased against the Zig Clean Colors. They are one of my favorite mediums.

Tonic has a Nuvo Aqua Flow that is pretty similar to Jane's, and they have a much better distribution worldwide.

Clean color markers, for sure.
The first few generations of the Zigs had shorter brushes.

l encre des marqueurs mermaid semble etre à pigments
Oui, il semble qu'il ya des pigments dans l'encre à base d'eau. Tout comme le Dr PH Martins, je crois.
??? dr PH Martins ?

Angela Stone I just checked on Amazon and Jane’s are $35 and the 12 of Zig are $18. To me it looks like she was biased towards the Jane ones. Lol
