THIS is a male Sanger! He not up there doing a bunch of nasal Kim Burrell runs and sounding whimpy. No he is singing vocal lines, belting with resonance and using runs as accents. He know his voice so well that he’s able to play with it and do things no one else had heard of. He’s a master vocalist and a singers singer. I need the men of today and tomorrow to listen and learn from his recordings and bring back real gospel singing. What a legacy, rest in power!
Nasal Kim Burrell runs?? That’s such a weird, inaccurate comment!! Daryl Coley loves Kim Burrell, and for a good reason too. Daryl is a beast, but Kim is too!!! I still can’t believe that; “nasal Kim Burrell runs”😂😂😂 Her runs are some of the most intricate runs in all of music combined!!!
TheWrestlingPalace If you don’t understand a comment then you should ask a question. When men try to sing like Kim Burrell, their vocal placement is in their nose which comes out nasally and whiny. Daryl was a man who sung like a man and understood the art of vocals. This new generation should take heed.
@@badd.lil.ting88 Exactly I hate men who use their falsetto to try and sound like a woman (excluding the voices that are naturally high like leggiero tenor) it makes all of them sound them same. Even with the runs, the difference between them and kim burrell is that kim creates runs, she know how to bend/twist different notes amd its goes with the melody but the men (and some women too) they just run down the same 10 notes every chance they get and thats just😒

He was several years older than me and he was our choir Minster Of Music.
It didn't shock!!! many of us that he went on to become on the world Greatest Gospel
Singer's. He was a firm teacher and didn't play when it came to giving vocal parts. I
can still remember him in Testimony Service he had to be around 17 years old or younger
leading songs.Riping and Running all up & down the vocal ladder..And Just slaying the church!!!!.

My all time favorite Gospel singer.
He can hold a note and make you feel every inch of it.
A vocal BEAST!
This Man had such a Special gift. I was fortunate enough to meet, talk with him, and shake his hand. His voice freaks me out. I'm a vocalist and I learned so much from him.
His technique was Killin and he had so many aspects to his Monsterous instrument.
He could Groul, then Distroy you with that falsetto, sing with super soft dynamics, & sing and loud with an Operatic like voice.
And his riffs were out of this World. His tone was killer and Unique with many different textures. His riffs in falsetto were even better than in his regular voice.
He was a Total and Complete MASTER of his craft. These singers 2day r 1 dimensional, with zero tone, just riffs and no feeling. All they know how to do is show off. And could care less about giving, just taking.
Dayrl gave us his complete heart when he opened his mouth to sing, and that's what floored us.
A vocal MONSTER...
At the very beginning of this video when the song starts playing it reminds me of of Patti Labelle's song i got a new attitude i wish it could start out with that song but y'all brought me back to my 90s roots I'm a 90s baby that came up listening to Daryl Coley i remember him like yesterday my mother use to play his music i listened to everything from his riffs and runs to his vibrato and long notes especially his highs to low notes OMG i remember all the singing of the 90s but his was da number lit vocal voices that i remembered till this day i he's my favorite male singer-songwriter and to experience this in 2020 OMG he really was powerful and still is long live da King real rap
I would have loved to ask him about his rendition of the star spangled banner on the Simpsons baseball game episode. I just want to know who at the Simpsons cartoon knew about this extraordinary voice and made it hilarious❤️❤️❤️
My kids heard that version of the Star Spangled Banner and of course knew his voice. I asked Daryl if he remembered that recording at that time and he laughed; he was asked to replace someone else, he laid down that track and forgot all about it! My kids laughed because they knew it was him from the first note!
It was outstanding and hilarious. But yes, I wonder who thought to ask him to perform for that show.

If it was the one at the 0:12 mark, that is called Hallelujah, which was song by an all star choir with Daryl Coley as lead. Now, if it was the song at the 0:15 mark, that one is called ‘I Need Your Spirit’. That one was originally sang by Edwin Hawkins. I like Daryl’s version more.

@@dlegend8667 i was gonna ask if you knew of any others who sing this way. his vocal choices can be so unique and expressive, the voices he’ll do, etc. he can be playful and i like that a lot.
@@poklar yes. There are so many. Here are some of my favorites, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, James Moore, Bettye Ransom Nelson, John P. Kee, Rance Allen, and the Clark Sisters (all of them lol). These people I just named are legendary gospel singers and are the standard/blueprint for artist who came after them, and that across all genres of music. In my humble opinion, artist today don’t sing like this anymore, and have forgotten about the ones who paved the way for them.
