    The charcoal filter is meant to absorb gas and oil fumes when your car "burps". It is a cheap emissions device to meet regulations for the EPA for "the life if the vehicle" aka the warranty period. Charcoal can only absorb so much, it will eventually become a useless restriction. First gen does not have this style filter.

    • @Justinackerman_
      @Justinackerman_  5 місяців тому +1

      That’s what I thought, which is why is don’t really see a need for it and took it out of the car. Thanks for watching the video, and help give a better explanation to everyone.

      Additionally the Gen2 versions in Japan do NOT have the charcoal filter. It’s just a USA EPA thing. If you don’t want to remove it, but don’t want it. You can order the box without the filter from Japan. I chose to just remove mine (rather than buying a filter free box).

      Naw, I understand man no worries. Look the 86 has been my dream car since the Gen 1 was first initially released back in 2013. It’s never been about having the most amount of horsepower for me, I love this car for what it is. When I saw they were going to be producing a Gen 2 86/BRZ I knew I had to buy it no matter what. Thanks for the support though man 👏💙

    You shouldn't remove that filter unless you are running a catch can which is sucking up oil into your intake which is not good for those subaru engines.

    Why are these cars so damn slow

    • @Justinackerman_
      @Justinackerman_  Рік тому +1

      Tbh they aren’t as slow as most people think they are. They compare in speed to a lot of cars in a similar class to it. I think this car was very well setup from factory and can only get even better

    So your solution to get a few extra HP for free is to take out a filter that keeps junk from getting into your engine?
    I assume you are not planning to keep the car for more than a year or so. This is why I don't buy used cars.

    • @Justinackerman_
      @Justinackerman_  Рік тому +4

      Well, like I stated in the video I wasn’t doing this for any HP reasons. Some of these cars are produced in certain states without this filter from factory. This charcoal filter is designed for the car to able to pass emission standards. That’s like saying when you cut the cats off your car your ruining it as well. I absolutely love this car, don’t have any intentions of selling it ever. Everyone has there own opinion 🤷‍♂️

      The filter is solely there to filter the unspent fuel from the port injection system when you shut the engine off. It’s only job is to prevent the gas fumes from entering the atmosphere. Do your research before bagging on someone.

      I considered this as well, but wouldn’t it be removed regardless if you were to put an aftermarket intake and intake box on this car? I’m assuming considered it’s glued into the factory one, you wouldn’t reuse it for the aftermarket intake. I appreciate your feedback and you letting know. 👏💙

      That's not what the charcoal filter does. It's only there to absorb vapors that'd otherwise be released back into the atmosphere and "cause pollution". GR86 models in other countries don't have the charcoal filter at all and are rated 232 bhp instead of 228 in the US. That said, removing the charcoal filter should still be done with caution depending on which state you're in. In 8 years or so, I'll have to get my car smog checked in order to renew my registration and I'm not sure if they'll be looking for that filter during inspection.

    • @Justinackerman_
      @Justinackerman_  Рік тому +1

      @@AyyGin that’s what I believed the filter was for. I am aware in some states the car is required to pass certain regulations, here in Florida I thankfully don’t have to worry about that. Which is another reason why I thought why not remove it. I appreciate your insight and feedback fam, truly much appreciated 👏💙

    Changes on Air-Filter/Box: you are absolutely WRONG - there's NO HP improvement - done and tested here in Australia.

    • @Justinackerman_
      @Justinackerman_  Рік тому

      I had watched a few videos on this topic before going ahead and doing it to my 86. I did see/ hear that the overall HP numbers did increase but not by very much. At the end of the day, removing a charcol filter isn’t gonna make a huge difference, but when it is as restrictive as the one that comes in these vehicles is, I wouldn’t be surprised if it truly did increase the throttle response or torque by a bit. Thanks for watching the video though fam 👏💙
