Thank you for your suggestions! I used the wood block method you described. Instead of finding scraps, I used wood glue to adhere two Jenga blocks together. They are the exact depth of the Ribba frame. I then used painter's tape to lightly adhere the Jenga blocks to the frame. Then I stuck Command Strips (the picture hanging Velcro kind) to the side of the Jenga blocks facing the wall. I then pressed the frame against the wall, pulled off the frame once adhered, removed the painter's tape, and re-placed the frame.
Great video. Ikea is usually on top of their products, not sure how this one slipped through the cracks. Best and easiest option were a block of plywood with two sided tape, command strips or two nails (one on either side) since these frames are not very heavy.
Thank you so much for this! I ordered one and immediately knew it would be challenging to hang. And I live in an apartment and try to use hole and mount free options as often as I can. This saved me from a lot of trial and error!
I agree. IKEA messed up here. It is crazy to have put the metal fixtures inset. They should have been fixed onto blocks of wood located in the middle (exactly) of adjacent inner sides of the frame (allowing room to fit the hardboard back). That way they would be in the correct place to hang the frame in portrait or landscape orientation.
Thank you so much for this! The Command strips way to do it is so easy. I’ve been looking for something to hang my frames for months and then they ended up collecting dust. I initially got the strips and was rather bummed when the middle wouldn’t hook so the projeft of hanging my franee was delayed.
@@AbbottsAtHome Just finished the project and it came out perfect. Way easier getting level lines with the command strip canvas blocks than with dry wall anchors. You’re a life saver and I appreciate you!
3:46 There’s a reason why 3M says to hang them vertically instead of horizontal, it’s because you gain mechanical advantage from doing so. When you turn them sideways your losing most of their holding power especially since they’re using adhesive. Please follow the directions everyone. They’re designed that way on purpose.
It’s been 1 year, none of these have fallen, despite the fact that mine are hanging on thin lattice strips (so, not full surface area). There’s 2 reasons for this. 1. These frames are super light 2. I’m using 2 command strips instead of 1. Balancing that light weight across 2 medium or large command strips makes up for the difference in strength going from vertical to horizontal. But, do whatever you want. 👍
I've been looking at ways of hanging the Ribba frame on the wall and was happy to find your video. I will try this but I'm still unsure what the 3M command strip canvas hanger looks like. It would've been good to show a good close-up of it. The closest we get is around 6:48 but it's not quite close enough to see exactly what it looks like. Maybe Google can help.
I used the first method and my frames bowed after a few months. I wish I had found the reddit beforehand! My frames are quite large so they had brackets that you’re supposed to screw securely onto all sides of the frame but I can’t find a screwdriver for the tiny screws it came with. Such a horrible design!
I might try the wood method, but do you think a 3m command strip would adhere to it well? Wondering if you have tried it and how well it worked. Thanks!
The command hooks do not work at all. I put them as per the instructions on this video. The frame fell off the wall and smashed apart on the ground after about 2 hours.
There are a few reasons why command strips might fail - the weight of the frame is too heavy for the size of the strips - not enough strips were used - the wall needed to be prepped with rubbing alcohol. I’m not sure why yours failed but mine haven’t budged since I made this video 2 years ago. And, my boys sleep under them. So, they do work in most cases.
If the wallpaper is as smooth as a painted wall, the command strip options in the video can work on wallpaper. If the wallpaper is more textured, you'll probably have to fix something to the wall. Good luck!
Re the wire option, please tell me what you mean when you said ‘ if you leave this too long the frame is going to stick out from the wall at the top ‘. Do you mean if the loop is too long or too long as in length of time ? Thanks
Mine have just been the flat edge of the frame sitting on the flat block for 2 years, no problem. But, you can always attach the frame to the block with a command strip too (to prevent movement). 👍
I just bought the HOVSTA frame and I realized the backing isn't nearly as deep as the RIBBA. Is it worth trying to use the command strips or just return these and get the ribba's instead?
I’ve been using command strips to hang wall art for probably 10 years now. It’s never failed for me. But, my walls are pretty smooth. Heavily textured walls would probably have a problem. 👍
Yep, that is the recommended use. That’s why, in this case, I use 2 command strips that are strong enough to hold about 10 to 20x the weight that I’m putting on it with a Ribba frame. 👍

I was amazed to have easily found this too!! About to sell my art in these frames then realised this flaw! Thankyou to the creator of this video 🎉🙏🏻😁

Just bought a Ribba yesterday. Glad that I watch your video instead of pulling my existing screw from the wall to match 1 in in the instruction😅

Putting the wood behind the Ribba frame to hold it, is the best idea I’ve seen! Thanks for sharing! You got yourself a new follower 😃

I just used a paper clip and twisted it 90 degrees and bent the end leads inward, sort of like a figure eight.
Exactly what I was looking for. Very clear, super practical, absolutely spot on! Thank you so much :)

Thankyou for the video, was a great help! I used the cable tie method as it is what I had available at the time and it worked great 😁👍
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Yes I’m hoping this works for me as I need a cheap option
Thr design of the Ribba frames is ridiculous
True!
I keep wondering what they expect us to do.

Came directly to UA-cam after noticing this ridiculous design flaw!
Yet, millions of people continue to buy them - otherwise why is IKEA keep making and selling these cheap ass frame 😀

Great! So grateful for all these ideas. Why does ikea continue to make some of their frames with such a recess between the hanger and the wall.
Thanks!

Hi! I use Command Strips to hang all of the art in my house. Some of them are in wood frames that I made. It works well. 👍👍

What size wood did you use? Thickness? The length/width I can do to prevent bowing
Any scrap 1x you have would work. So, 3/4" thick boards.
Genius!!!! Thank you.

Hey can you please let me know the best way to hang frame on a wallpaper
If the wallpaper is as smooth as a painted wall, the command strip options in the video can work on wallpaper. If the wallpaper is more textured, you'll probably have to fix something to the wall. Good luck!
Excellent
Thanks

The overall length, with or without the hoop, can make the front tip too far forward. But, you can always twist the wire to adjust. 😊
@@AbbottsAtHome Many thanks!

So using the block of wood, the frame is held in place by friction???
Mine have just been the flat edge of the frame sitting on the flat block for 2 years, no problem. But, you can always attach the frame to the block with a command strip too (to prevent movement). 👍
Great ideas. What size are your picture frames?
Thanks! The inside of the matte is 16”x20”. I can’t remember what the outside measures. Maybe 20x24. 👍
Can i put puzzles in that frame? Is the slot inside thick enough?
I'm not sure that it would work for a puzzle. Sorry.
Ahh, thanks anyway
Do you think it's also possible to hang those frames using Self-adhesive Wall Hooks for Photo Frame? For some reason I can't share the link.
I wouldn’t think so. Sorry.

Hi! I have no idea what the back of a HOVSTA looks like. But, I use Command Strips to hang almost all of the pictures in my house. 👍
If you can use a regular hook, I’m pretty sure the hoovstas work fine with those
3M Command is useless on anything other than tiles or glass - it will not stick to uneven surfaces.
I’ve been using command strips to hang wall art for probably 10 years now. It’s never failed for me. But, my walls are pretty smooth. Heavily textured walls would probably have a problem. 👍
@@AbbottsAtHome also I do believe those Command strips are meant to be applied in a vertical orientation, rather than horizontal (does it make sense?)
Yep, that is the recommended use. That’s why, in this case, I use 2 command strips that are strong enough to hold about 10 to 20x the weight that I’m putting on it with a Ribba frame. 👍
