I was about 10 years old when I first went on this, back in 1996. I had to say I didn't like it, so I looked cool in front of my mates, but deep down, I loved it. Totally agree, Shawn. They should have never gotten rid of it. That soundtrack is absolutely classic. Cheers for the video.
Great video Shawn. I'm in my 40s so I can remember Around the world in 80 days as well. It was a great ride , similar to It's a Small World. It had some nice touches of its own such as Egypt being hot and the artic area blasting you with cold air. The entrance station had a wonderful atmosphere. I was a bit too old for the target audience for Toyland Tours when it opened but it was a great dark ride. It was a huge mistake to replace it with the chocolate factory ride. We lost one of the best original dark rides in this country. The current dungeon is a poor replacement, the park needs more family rides not a scary paid extra attraction. Such a shame Toyland Tours wasn't kept going with proper maintenance maybe some additional modern effects mapping. Thanks for the memories with this video.
Another fabulous look back Video Shawn !!! I too got to ride this many times as kid and adored it !!!! So so magical !! And truly still reminds me of a Disney Park style attraction !! Really miss Toyland Tours, thank you so much for this lovely look back !
Alton towers in the late 1990s was truly magical - it might not have had as may coasters, but it had great dark rides, so much live entertainment, a variety of themes, rides for all ages including lots of flat rides, a proper mascot and even a parade.
I think we all prefer the version from when we were kids. Mine was "Around the World in 80 days". I still have gone memories of Toyland Tours though - that music!
Absolutely loved this...lots of photos on of this from when we used to visit as children 🤩 I would love to see those photos again! And the music - wow the memories! Thank you! You have such an incredible memory!!
I remember going on Around the world in 80 days every year as a child. It's the only ride I've recorded a POV of. I also remember it was next to an enormous McDonalds :)
I haven't been to Alton Towers in years but I regularly find myself humming the Toyland Tours theme! It was such a cosy and atmospheric ride, I miss it so much.
What a wonderful trip down memory lane, I found it quite emotional watching that. I remember loving that ride right up into my teens. And I’d forgotten some of the whacky set pieces and that music! The days when Alton Towers really was a magical day out. Still awesome but in the 90s it had a certain sparkle. Nostalgia, that is! I also remember Around the world in 80 days. It had a lot of smell pods, a very distinctive soundtrack, the Paris moulin rouge scene was particularly iconic as well as the Siam one. We used to do that and the spooky walk through Doom & Sons one after the other as they were all in the ‘Talbot St’ area. Anyway, a terrific video, and that will take me onto my thoughts for your Alton Towers predictions/wishlist!
Absolutely gutted when this was removed so many childhood memories here, used to be a regular for me and the family after we had been to the McDonald for lunch next door, great times ❤️
I remember when it was 'around the world in 80 days'! I'm getting old! One thing I remember is really well is that in the room at the end of the ride (where the pink hippo was) they used to display models of upcoming rides. You can just make this out on a couple of UA-cam videos.
That's right they did. I remember a model of the Haunted House went up the year before it opened. I used to like Doom and Sons round the corner. It was a spooky walk round attraction. Sadly there seem to be very few videos or photos of it about.

Never got to go on Toylalnd Tours! I went on Around the world in 80 days when I was very young but then by the time I made my way back to the park it was already Charlie & The Chocolate Factory!
It reminded me of Noddy did Toyland Tours with the elephant and teddy bears especially Tessie Bear as did you and Shawn used to both watch and read Noddy as I did as a kid but my sister didn’t because the character was annoying with his voice and bell. That paddle boat reminds me of OJ from Tugs. The propellers remind me of Budgie’s as did you and Shawn used to watch Budgie the Helicopter as I did as a kid too which he was created by Sarah Fergie? Make sure you and Shawn stay warm and safe.😊
I didn't get to ride Toyland Tours much which is a shame, but I do remember the soundtrack. I really like the Sonic part of the Toyland Tours soundtrack, it was pretty cool how they got Sonic's music to mix nicely with the Toyland Tours music and not seem out of place... I'm a bit biased tho coz I've always been a fan of Sonic, I do like how he's a returning theme at Alton Towers... hopefully there's more to come!
one thing i always ask people when i go to Alton towers is what ever happened to the Sonic in Toyland tours but they dont seem know i have a horrible feeling it was destroyed hopefully someone has it in a private collection looking after him
Ya but what happens if they rebuild the alton tower's dungeon and turn it back into a new boat ride that's look like the remake of "Toyland tour's" or "Around the world in 80 day's" or "Charlie and the chocolate factory" basted on it's sequel book
I remember the ToyLand Tours and still have the CD which i brought at AT in the 90's of the music from the whole ride (which reminds me of Its A Small World from Disney theme parks) and with the Toyland Tours music it also has the music to the old classic ride ... The Haunted House.
Never been to Alton Towers as a child or a adult but I used to take my kids to Drayton Park when Yellowstone logging company a triple drop log flume was still up an running.
I’m sure sonic wasn’t there at the start and was added following sponsorship from Sega later in the life of Toyland Tours. I may be wrong but I definitely recall some change to that room sorting the lifespan of the ride
I wish I was born in the nineties to ride this ride my siblings went on it and they loved it they were gutted when it got refurbished to Charlie and chocolate factory however loved that ride!😊
Seeing Sonic reminds me, do you have any plans to cover Super Nintendo World at all? That preview video from the other day was full of really neat stuff.
This looked like it was as good as bubble works, i felt like a piece of my childhood had gone when they closed that down so i can relate. i never got to go to Alton towers as a kid as its a long drive from where i live so it would have had to be an overnight trip and i guess we just never ended up going so i never got to go on toyland tours.
Toyland Tours is such a popular Alton Towers ride. Too bad it’s closed in 2005, it could’ve been maintained properly by the theme park staff in order to last it longer. Maybe updating Sonic from his classic to modern form.
I'm 31 and I remember when I was a kid going on it atleast once but for some reason I don't remember it vividly which is annoying lol cause it looks amazing 🙂 I remember Charlie and the chocolate factory though, and the dungeons are fun 🙂
Sadly the removal of this ride made way for bad childhood experiences for me with the charlie and the chocolate factory, It scared the hell out of me as a kid.
You’ll be pleased to know that Duel is currently under refurbishment. There are rumours that the original Haunted House is returning. Another rumour is Emily Alton and Snowy the characters from the Dolls House have “repossessed” the ride. Ether way we’re in for hopefully a pleasant surprise next year for the 2023 season. Another rumour is that Nemesis Sub Terra is reopening next year following 7 years of being SBNO.
I think another channel was just talking about this very ride last week I think. Anyway it was about the sonic the hedgehog animatronic and how such bad shape it ended up in. It was restored mostly minus the operating logos as they couldn’t be found. Currently I think sega hq has it somewhere in Japan in a warehouse although exact whereabouts are unknown. The whole video was about video game animatronics I think from Fasspass facts.
Aww it’s such I shame I never got to ride this ride. I only ever rode Charley and the chocolate factory as a kid. And that was awesome from what I can remember but now it’s the dungeons I don’t think I’ll go on that. But hey I think I would have loved toy land tours

I always thought there was something slightly sinister about this ride, which is weird given its toy theme. Only Alton Towers could achieve that.
Definitely agree with this!
Never got to experience toyland tours but I rode charlie and the chocolate factory once when I was 5 and that is my most missed ride at alton towers.
Thats awesome i remember bubble works
Ya but what happens if they rebuild the alton tower's dungeon and turn it back into a new boat ride that's look like the remake of "Toyland tour's" or "Around the world in 80 day's" or "Charlie and the chocolate factory" basted on it's sequel book
I remember the ToyLand Tours and still have the CD which i brought at AT in the 90's of the music from the whole ride (which reminds me of Its A Small World from Disney theme parks) and with the Toyland Tours music it also has the music to the old classic ride ... The Haunted House.
I actually have one of the CD’s in my collection!
@@ThemeParkWorldwide Which one?
The UK lacks dark rides. Toyland tours was by far the greatest. It is well missed
It was indeed
Never been to Alton Towers as a child or a adult but I used to take my kids to Drayton Park when Yellowstone logging company a triple drop log flume was still up an running.
I remember seeing that as a kid!
Toyland Tours does look similar to Bubbleworks, but I would rather had rode Toyland Tours than Bubbleworks. A lot better theming.
damn i live in the uk but why haven't i subscribed to your channel till now
Thanks for watching!
I’m sure sonic wasn’t there at the start and was added following sponsorship from Sega later in the life of Toyland Tours. I may be wrong but I definitely recall some change to that room sorting the lifespan of the ride
I don’t remember anything other than Sonic however you could possibly be right!
I wish I was born in the nineties to ride this ride my siblings went on it and they loved it they were gutted when it got refurbished to Charlie and chocolate factory however loved that ride!😊
What do you think Toyland tours would be like if it was a walkthrough attraction?
Seeing Sonic reminds me, do you have any plans to cover Super Nintendo World at all? That preview video from the other day was full of really neat stuff.
It does look absolutely fantastic and I’ll be sharing my thoughts in an upcoming video!
I remember this ride when I was a kid
Used to love it!
i miss the black hole!
It was incredible!
It was fantastic and was one of my favourites along with Bubbleworks!
I would have to go on this ride every time I visited. Sometimes even more than once
It was great!
I was about 13 when this ride came to Alton towers and I loved it still. Shame they took it out nothing else has never really worked in there
It was such a magical ride!
I'm afraid I didn't go to Alton Towers till a few years later when it was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
I wish I went on this!
I never went on it but I remember Charlie and the chocolate factory and it was my favourite ride
It was a fun ride!
Also, I also remembered that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Ride was around after I was even born, which is the year 2006!
It was indeed
Toyland Tours is such a popular Alton Towers ride. Too bad it’s closed in 2005, it could’ve been maintained properly by the theme park staff in order to last it longer. Maybe updating Sonic from his classic to modern form.
We need this back another toyland thing in the dungeon, we need it back.
It would be incredible to see a new version at the park
I'm 31 and I remember when I was a kid going on it atleast once but for some reason I don't remember it vividly which is annoying lol cause it looks amazing 🙂 I remember Charlie and the chocolate factory though, and the dungeons are fun 🙂
It was such a wonderful ride!
Sadly the removal of this ride made way for bad childhood experiences for me with the charlie and the chocolate factory, It scared the hell out of me as a kid.
Worst decision Alton Towers made was turning the Haunted House into Duel for me…
But getting rid of Toyland Tours was definitely a close second!
Thanks for the information!
Theme park worldwide. Do you have a POV for this ride? as I was born in 2006 I never got to ride it 😭😭😭
Can you do remembering the farmyard?
Thanks for your suggestion
Aww it’s such I shame I never got to ride this ride. I only ever rode Charley and the chocolate factory as a kid. And that was awesome from what I can remember but now it’s the dungeons I don’t think I’ll go on that. But hey I think I would have loved toy land tours
It was such a fantastic ride with incredible theming for its time!
Never got to ride it but it looks quality
It was of a very high quality indeed
I don’t tthink they should’ve added the Charlie ride or the dungeon Ik they’re both quite good but nothing will be like toy land tours
