  • One of the deeper things I did during the pandemic shut down resulted in saying yes to an invitation from a virtuoso solo cellist and friend, Amit Peled. He called one day and asked what I thought about composing a piece to feature him with his cello ensemble that would be centered around Amanda Gorman’s inaugural poem, “The Hill We Climb.”
I studied the poem and Amanda’s delivery, focused on the really lovely playing I knew Amit represented, and “heard” the cello ensemble sonorities. Armed with all of that, I got busy and Amit and the ensemble did the rest! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Amanda re-Tweeted the performance, so I guess she likes it. :-)
    I hope you will, too.
    Your fan,
    John
