The Roehm purge (1967)
- This 90 minute docudrama from 1967 by late Axel Eggebrecht and Inge Stolten depicts the rise and fall of the SA (Sturmabteilung; brownshirts) and their dream of what they called the 'second revolution'.
Wikipedia writes: The Night of the Long Knives (German: Nacht der langen Messeri), or the Röhm purge (German: Der Röhm-Putsch), also called Operation Hummingbird (German: Unternehmen Kolibri), was a purge that took place in Nazi Germany from 30 June to 2 July 1934.
It is a detailed account on what took place resulting in the disappearance of the populist movement.

It’s easier to watch at 75% speed with the subtitles! The actor does indeed look like Röhm! Never seen this before! Cheers.
Thanks , Mate.
Thank you. It is indeed easier to watch at 75%.

This is an exceptional work.
This was very good and informative. Thank you.
Grandios!
And a lesson for us, even today, against the ruthlessness of power and politicians.

Interesting film..he does indeed have a look of Rohm as others have stated
Its Röhm and not rohm, or do you mean Rome?

In January 1934, Eicke was promoted to Brigadefuhrer (a 'General' rank) yet in July 1934 he arrives at Rohm's prison as 'Oberfuhrer Eicke,' (='Colonel Eicke').
At one time in his S.S. career Eicke was thrown out of the S.S. and put in a mental hospital but he was eventually released and reinstated in the S.S. at a higher rank.
SUPER FILM
Fantastic little film. Really well done.
Endlich?
All these thugs and bureaucrats are giving each other their "Word of honor" when there is none to be found between all of them.
Nice to have subtitles. I wish the video quality was better. But a good summary of the Night of the Long knives and the liquidation of the SA as a military threat to the army and Hitler.
OK now I have the full picture.. Thanks

Thank you. This kind of work is very important in contemporary shallow world. World that willinigly forges history for shortsited gains. It is disgusting to see what passes for historic studies and education nowdays.

I recall in a past book Minister of Justice Frank protested to Hitler himself about the number being executed..
Hitler growing impatient with him replied..alright then cut the list in half..
Frank seeing the handwriting on the wall if he didn't agree...relented and kept his position
Excellent docudrama. Röhm and the other SA clowns learned that if you lie down with dogs you end up with fleas. But innocent people died in the purge as well.
Its interesting to watch this history about the communists and fascists, direct from the "source". Actually the story is unexpected since I am an American and didn't know about this history about Roehm. Danke.

Odd that Hitler had hundreds of people killed exjudiciary and no one said, hang on a minute, can you imagine Stanley Baldwin doing that 😑
What's odd about it? This is what governments do, and not just Hitler's government. The CIA murdered 3000 Americans, and not one person in the US government has ever called them out for it.
Ashli Babbit...craig robertson..many others..usa..vp bidenstein regime!
The SA were blue-collar thug gangsters looked down upon by the SS and other Nazis. Oh, the irony! 😅
And they were buttfucks.
Yet the Soviet regime had murders worse than the Rohm Putsch from the very beginning and it continued for many years. Now the rehabilitation of the USSR is becoming common again.
And your point is…..?
And? They were both as abhorrent as each other
In the end Rohm didnt stand a chance. The combination of the Army, Goering and Himmler would have guaranteed that he would lose any power struggle. Plus, Hitler would have needed to tone down the S.A because of public revulsion over its naked display of brute force.
Hitler was the master politician and Rohm was the revolutionary. Like Castro and Che and like Castro Hitler was happy to cut Rohm down to secure his position.
Kind of a difficult subject, how do you not make Rohm look like a victim?
11:50 who is the general here (middle) supposed to be?
Thanks for making me aware, fixed both German and English subtitles. He talks about him:

Impressive document, Tohm was not very smart in the politic game and he paid it with his life
Röhm believed in a more bottom-up, revolutionary style of national socialism. he said it himself at 16:10: "Einer Art Rotfront in Braun" - despite denying it, this is how he came to be perceived by Hitler as well.
@@SmokeyBCN
Röhm often bragged in private company that he could end Hitlers career with one interview, but he promised not to pull any tricks on a fellow pervert like himself. This was often construed as a rude joke, less often as ambivalent statement.
Thank you for sharing this and for English subtitle.
Can you upload the following with English subtitle?:
1. March of Millions - Die Flucht (2007) ... 180 minutes
2. Die Letzte Schalcht (2005)
I don't charge fees but I don't follow orders either.
1. What happened to membership of the SA after this?
2. Their numbers were still large so why would anyone seek to be a member after that Purge?
3. What was the SA function after this?
the SA was totally forced into the backbenches - into the shadows. they never played a significant role after 30th of Jun 1934
Some were conscripted into the Wehrmacht...some joined the SS. The Wehrmacht even built up a division entirely of SA men ...
No mention of Heydrich.
I was under the impression that Reinhard Heydrich started out as a lieutenant of Himmler tied to the the police department in Munich. There is no mention of him in the German speaking reception of this film here, I'm interested myself so let's see if there is anybody who can shed some light on his role.
This is a translation of a passage on Heydrich from the German wikipedia page (DeepL):
On June 1, 1931, after a long period of indifference, Heydrich joined the NSDAP (membership number 544.916) under the influence of Lina von Osten and her family, and one month later, on July 14, he joined the Schutzstaffel as an SS-Untersturmführer (SS no. 10.120). His early entry into the Party and the SS was probably less motivated by ideology than by a desire to "return to a structured life in uniform.
In the early 1930s, Heinrich Himmler systematically expanded the SS.
Gruselig.

Fascinating in many ways, but it does show the hate in both Roehm and Hitler, both were Fascists, but only one could succeed, that is now History, but what if Roehm had led Germany, it would have been a disaster like Hitler, but it may well be that there would have been NO War, for myself, it only muddies the water slightly, Germany may well have had a Real Revolution, to the Left and not the Right, that opened up another can of worms.
I am a Democratic Socialist, I could never be anything like a Right wing Conservative or a loutish murderous Fascist, being a Celt (Welsh), I followed my Fathers views he served through the War from 39 to 45 Four of those Years he was in the Balkans, a Officer in the Commando's but he was an SOE agent, he saw Fascism close up there. He also saw Communism through Russian Red Army Officers he worked with in Partisan Groups, also the Partisans of Tito with the Russians. He witnessed terrible atrocities on the Civilian Population of Yugoslavija, he also killed many Germans Italians and the Croat Fascist Ustashe, many times close up, personal and Deadly, Knife and Strangulation, the weapon of Secrecy.
He became a Pacifist after the War, he had seen enough of the Types of Roehm and Hitler and their despicable attitudes to Race Hatred and Murder, so to Stalin, another Despot, but he did keep Friends with Two Red army officers with whom he had worked ,a third saved his life in Bosnia throwing himself throwing his body on a German grenade in a Foxhole, he lost his life saving my Fathers, my father lost part of his foot.
Is this Film from West Germany or the DDR it certainly is acted very well, it also is factually very correct, the Vanity of Roehm and Hitler was incredible. Why on Earth could the Germans not see through this madness.
"Born in 1899, Eggebrecht grew up in bourgeois surroundings in Leipzig until 1917 when he volunteered to serve in the First World War where he received a serious wound, the effects of which he would continue to feel for his entire life. Indecisive politically, he alternated between right and left. After the war he was a member of nationalist organizations. From 1920 to 1925 he was a member of the KPD (Communist Party of Germany), traveling twice to the Soviet Union in 1923 and 1924, but he returned to Berlin disappointed in Bolshevism. "
