Pontiac is like a Mopar it has its own unique sound
For sure!
Your family is very proud of you Brother. Always a cut above.
Thanks Brother! Much appreciated. And thanks for all the support and for being one cool dude!
One of my favorite cars was my '72 Delta 88 Royale. It had a 455 and 3.23 gears. Power everything, it was like driving on your living room sofa. A great trouble-free car, it wasn't fast but got 25 mpg on the highway, 18 in town. And you could carry all your buddies and a pony keg while doing it. Ah, fond memories. Your Firebird is amazing. I've been here for a while, watching without saying much. You've done a fantastic job with it, when you get the final touches on it it will be a star at any show. I like your plan to lower the front stance a little, that will be just the look it needs, at least in my opinion. Congratulations on building such a great car. All the best to you.
That delta 88 sounds awesome! Always potential for some great memories when they are tied to a cool car! Thanks for checking out my channel, for the kind words, and the great feedback. Much appreciated. One of the best things about doing this channel is connecting with other car enthusiasts. Best wishes brother. Rock on!
Nicely done , I have a 1970 Formula 400 and a 1975 Trans Am , I have a few other cars , but these are the two I will never sell , when the time comes one goes to my son and the other to my daughter to use and enjoy , they are meant to be driven and enjoyed and i love to help others get theirs on the road , watching others on Utube getting their firebirds on the road is always a joy to see , I like that you made it your own and that you drive it like it is meant to be driven , Cheers !
Absolutely man! Gonna drive it and enjoy it for sure. The big question is…which child gets the trans am and who gets the formula? I would want them both!
@@HeavyPedalGarage My daughter is the oldest so she picked first and gets the TA ! But my son is not complaining because the Formula is the faster of the two , it's a win win for the kids !
Just wonderful. You should be so proud of your beautiful car. Great job. It takes time on these projects and your knowledge of the craft is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! It has been quite a long process, but it think that makes the enjoyment of the car and the connection i have with it even greater! i appreciate ya checking out the video and thanks for the kind words.
Love the car...Love the attitude you took to fixing her up...Keep going....
Thanks a bunch! Very rewarding project for sure!
The bird look amazing .
Thank you. Super excited to have it out on the road!
I bet it feels so awesome to finally have it so close to done and be driving it. I cant wait to get my 79 to that point. I'm on year 2 probably another 2-3 to go
Awesome man! 79s are super sweet! Keep grinding and you WILL get there! I joke that the only other project I have that have taken this long require three square meals a day and an education. Thanks for the comment buddy!
The feeling is unlike anything I've ever felt. I don't think I can really explain it but here is my attempt.
It is addictive. The first drive is the most amazing because it doesn't just come and go, the whole experience just lingers on as your driving, and well after its parked. Every gear shift, every clutch depress, every hard acceleration, the first burnout, the whole process is like a drug. It's hard to describe but after a hard days work coming home and opening up that garage door. Standing there looking at such a beautiful work of art, knowing that every single nut, bolt, clip, pin, panel and piece was finessed into perfect harmony by your own two hands..
I can not put into words the sense of gratitude and satisfaction that explodes from deep within your core of who you are. The sound of those pipes, the beautiful sound of the exhaust as your being thrust back into your soft new seats from the input of your foot on the throttle pedal.... I get so swallowed up in the experience that I don't even notice all the people nodding and waving, smiling and giving hat tips. I'm not trying to be rude. Just humbled and grateful to be driving something I've worked on for 15 years now. Something that started out as worn out rusted up shell of a once respected and even feared muscle car. It truly is a experience that only can be felt by someone who has built one for themselves I believe. After you pour your heart and soul, blood sweat and tears, along with several bank accounts into something for so long it becomes difficult to remember a life without that commitment. I don't miss any of it. In the moment you are frustrated throwing wrenches, cussing and angry. But later on in the project you remember that moment. It's not just about the finished product. It's the whole journey. If I could give one piece of advice to anyone starting or thinking about starting a project like this it would be this : ENJOY THE PROCESS. all of it. Even the most frustrating aspects of most dreadful task. Remember it's the whole journey. You can not receive the gratifying results without all the difficult and frustrating circumstances. It's the very journey that brings you the most satisfying sense of appreciation when the garage door opens and you are met with a meticulously assembled stunning piece of American muscle.
I hope you reach the end of your journey and come to appreciate all your hard work.
It took me 15 years to completely rebuild my 1970 Camaro. I truly appreciate all the frustrating moments. I really get it now. I understand why it's so blatantly addictive.
🇺🇸💪😁👍🍻
Great looking car. I'm presently doing a restomod on my 78 Firebird. I almost have the interior completed and eventually will tackle getting the anemic 305 out and something with some balls to replace it. I've only had it about 6 months but it has been a blast doing the work to it.
Awesome! Sounds like a cool ride and a super fun project!
If you change your gears, put 3.23 ratio and a posi unit. Great job you did there. Gerald
Thanks. I like the idea of 3.23 and posi!
What a piece of Pontiac muscle! Your bird looks amazing Nate. Ext color / blacked out trim / integration of the Endura / ‘75 back glass / taillights, & ram air hood puts it over the top! You are a true craftsman and you should be proud of your masterpiece.
My ‘73 Formula 350 Firebird has a 3.23 posi rear axle which provides decent performance while keeping the RPMs down when highway cruising. I wouldn’t go higher than that unless you have a 5 spd tranny w/ OD.……..my 2 cents! Take care my brother!
Thanks for the kind words and the advice on the gearing. Definitely leaning towards the 3.23! Sounds perfect.
Very nice. Super straight lines 👍
Thank you!
Right on Guy! I like the way it looks too
3.21 is about the best all around street gear with keeping mileage a d driveability good. That thing has turned out sweet.. congrats on gettin her on the road.. Nice work Nate..😉
Thank you! Appreciate the advice on the 3.21. And for all your support along the way!
@@HeavyPedalGarage I typoed that, should be 3.23
Good street gear...☺️
Awesome bro!!!! That car is amazing …
Thank you! I appreciate all your support along the way!
You did good. If you saw mine it has posi and I can spin them even if I am moving. But I changed to 3.21,, compression upped to 9.5..
Sounds good to me man! I got 9.25 compression. Gotta get that posi!
Very cool. For your gears, she scoots pretty darn good as is. Nice for hitting the highway and going somewhere. My son and I are getting ready to put a 3.08 out of a 66 GTO into my 67 Tempest. I'm a bit worried about my gears comparatively for travel so we will see.
Right on. Good luck with the swap! Please let me know how you like it!
Great job brother the car looks amazing 👏
Thanks buddy! As you know, it take a lot of work but it is sooo worth it! Rock on brother! Enjoying your channel as well!
Great videos, I waited 6 months to get replacement interior door panels from PUI for my 79 firebird which we are upgrading to all the TA options and then some & I believe I will now wait to install them until you put yours on ! (and believe me, I cannot wait to get them on) ----------- My glass is all original, and has the dull water stains to prove it which makes twighlight/night driving tough at times, so if you or any followers have any suggestions on how to restore ............. !
Thanks for the kind words. Ive got my original panels tore down and am working (slowly) on getting them cleaned up and re-dyed. Ill definitely be posting that process once i get them all done and installed. At this rate, it will be a little while though... Not sure on how to clean up the glass. Maybe some youtube research on polishing compound and proper process....
Boy that sounds good
Makes my heart beat and my hands shake!
It's a beauty!
Yes sir!
I'm still in the build series. Definitely DON'T change the gear ratio. Its perfect for cruising. You have a TON of work in that baby. No use in getting carried away with ripping and twisting the sub frame with all that extra low gearing. Ya know... She's plenty fast.
Good advice brother! She is plenty fast for sure. I would love to update to a limited slip diff though. That one wheel peel aint cutting it. Lol
Awesome work Nate. I've been enjoying catching up on your build. I'm starting on my 70 Formula soon. Definitely will be using some of your tips. Not sure I'm up for paint and body though. I'm more of a mechanical guy. I'm about to start on the Holley EFI set-up and then a 5-Speed conversion. After that I will move to interior and other trim stuff. Great job again!!
Thanks buddy. Mmmm efi 5speed. Sounds awesome. Appreciate ya checking out the videos.
Looks amazing. I’ve watched all the videos and learned a lot. Will use some of your tips. I did my 75 similar to yours but had it painted silver. I’d love to show you some pics.
Cool! We thought about silver for a good while. that was the original color. id love to see your car. You can email me at heavypedalgarage@gmail.com Ill throw them up on the HPG Facebook page if you would like.
Hi Nate, you’ve done a remarkable job on the Firebird! It’s rad to see it on the road. Your videos have been super helpful. Can’t wait to see the front end dropped a little and what you do next.
Right on man! Appreciate the feedback and glad I could be helpful. Gotta keep them ole cars on the road!
You got an amazing car! But your gears need to be replaced with a 3:73 posi you will feel the difference.
Thanks buddy! I totally agree! 3.73 posi and overdrive would be sweet! Gotta save some cash though. Little at a time. But I’ll get there!
OMG! That this is absolutely beautiful! She sounds AMAZING and looks even better! Great job on the build! What’s next now? Any plans for the channel going forward?
Thanks buddy! Still got some work to do on the car, so the bird will be a part of the channel for a long time. But I’ve got an 89 full size blazer. Tons of rust repair, body work, paint, interior. Oh. And I’m doing a LS (vortec 5.3) 4l60e swap. Already got an 03 Silverado to cannabalize for the build. Should be cool! Never done a swap and am looking forward to the learning process!
@@HeavyPedalGarage that sounds pretty awesome! Will be great content
my first car ,67 red ho326 second car , 701/2 4spd, ram-4 blue, 1 of the 54 built fell asleep in first car , knocked the power out of ashland or. turned 18 & found the trans am , B-4 therewas a bounty, got married , dad was a pontiac trained master carb man , 27years, i was 12 when our freshly ordered 65 tri power backed off the carrior truck , got my drivers licsense at 16 in our new 69 , H.O. CATALINA , thers more , but now im 3rd owner 1972 , formula original everything , 4spd, , not ur daddys cruisor , it sounds & performs !! my POINT , PONTIACS ARE SPECIAL , FROM A SPECIAL TIME !! & PLACE , im sure mom & dad are smiling saying there he goes as they look down, mom maybe looking up, but she could power shift our 65 goat , She dirt track raced , i never seen he lose , broke trannys , was the only way u could cacth her , thanks mom , & good on you , now u have a start on your pontiac MEMORYS , now i gotta get out to the garage , RIGHT MOM ?
Good stuff ken! I agree, pontiacs are special. You just don’t see them around like the Chevy ford mopar. That low end torque, the styling, all of it. The fact they don’t make ‘em anymore adds to the spice. Thanks for sharing your story brother. Pontiac strong 💪
PTFB for your suspension.
Oooo Yeeeeaaaah! Ive got my eye on some ptfb parts. Champaign tastes with kool aid pockets right now though. Gonna have to wait til i get the cash (and finish my current 89 blazer project)
Nice work, sir !
Thanks! I freakin love this car!
@HeavyPedalGarage I understand I love my car, too. I will try to get more videos up as soon as I can .
Keep those gears if you ever take it on the freeway
I hear ya. It cruises very nicely at freeway speeds.
Love the car. Just started watching your videos. What size wheels do you have on it?
hey jeff. They are 17x9" rims with 275s on the back and 255s on the front
Looks fabulous. The paint and body are superb, and I love that Colour! I just painted my 74 LeMans, and like you, I do EVERYTHING myself. The 2.73 in my car makes it a great cruiser. I’m not so interested in going fast anymore. You can check it out on my channel if you wish. cheers!
Right on man! Thanks. Checked out your 74. Sub’d. Looking forward to seeing it on the road!
See that’s a 75 with a 70-73 grill. That’s what I want to do. How was it putting that grill on was it easy or did you have to modify some stuff?
It wasn't too bad, but i had to do some body work to get it to fit correctly. Also had to weld on a couple tabs to the front of the fender for mounting the valence. i also had to modify the turn signal harness to get it to match up with the new signal lights in the valence.
Check out my channel, ive got videos on the whole process.
Nice T/A you have there, are you running cast iron or aluminum cylinder heads?
Cast iron. Stock Pontiac 6x heads. Milled to 9.25:1 compression.
@@HeavyPedalGarage nice!!!!
@@HeavyPedalGarage I have a similar engine I'm getting ready to rebuild, are your heads ported?
@@HeavyPedalGarage ua-cam.com/video/rB3CL91DCzQ/v-deo.html link to my 455 with 6X-4 heads.
@@jaytrutrucker they aren’t ported. I looked into it but I figured they flowed pretty well for the amount of HPs I’ve got (425)
What’s the name of the color?
UreChem is the company. Sparkling merlot pearl is the color.
beautiful
Thank you!
what kind of transmission do you have on this?
It’s a turbo 350. I rebuilt it and did a couple upgrades to make it a tad stronger. No traction, no problem!
