    Pertaining to your latest video about your tap cons breaking off. After years of anchoring into concrete I’ve used 5/16”x 3” You only need 1 1/2” into the concrete.
    The most important part of drilling holes in concrete is to blow compressed air into the newly drilled hole. The drilled dust will fall back into the hole that you’ve just drilled leaving no room for the fasteners. You can over drill the hole, but make sure to use a shorter fastener.
    Good luck and keep making great videos.

    Howdy y’all- you’re doing a good job with the framing. I’ve done so much framing in years past it got a little mundane but what you’re doing is definitely enjoyable. Having a challenge to figure out how just makes it that much more enjoyable. We’re getting some of that cold stuff way down here. Keep the fires burning and stay warm. God bless

    Thinking you got a bad batch of screws that weren't tempered correctly. Make sure you drill beyond, air compressor and blow gun, re-drill the hole, second operation, with a new bit. If it straps out, just hammer it flush and call it good. It will still provide the lateral shear force required. Yes, numbers and dimensions. Good process and execution. Hybrid construction takes time but it's incredibly strong and will last generations when cared for. One tree at a time, one timber at a time, one stick of Lumber at a time= OUR DREAM IN THE WOODS. BEAUTIFUL STUFF.

    It looks like you are getting some good advice. Blow dust out of hole and stop just short of compressing wood. These screws are very hard material and will break of. I like your attention to details. I will be 69 in March 2025. Now that I am retired, I have time to slow down and not rush projects. While I was working 12-hour days, I would rush projects and then not be happy with the outcome. Your understanding of 'WOOD' gives you an advantage on other carpenters. So many forget that even cut and kiln dried wood is constantly moving with the humidity around it. It might be perfectly straight today, but not tomorrow. I have two bad shoulders after working on cars for 50 years. I build two storage building on back patio. I found using a boat winch to help raise the walls and roof by myself. Good video.

    Is the gray goop you are talking about a sill sealer between bottom plate and concrete? Concrete will suck moisture out of wood, even treated wood

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  7 днів тому +3

      The gray goop is not specifically a sill sealer. It’s an adhesive/sealer for the SIP panels. It’s pretty thick and tends to have some flexibility- even after a couple of days. Besides bonding the sips together it provides a blockage for air movement.

    drill your holes for the anchors before you goop the board. slide the board away and lay the drill down flat and the fan on the drill will blow the dust out of the hole. then, goop the board, lay it down while aligning the holes and insert the anchors. easily done............g

    The tapcons you are having problems with are probably too long and dont have enough thread so if the smooth part exceeds the thicknes of 2×4 it cant thread into concrete so it snaps off

    never had any problems using the 1/4"x2-3/4" tapcons mounting 2x material...maybe your bit it is wore out and not drilling the proper diameter hole (3/16") and are you over drilling so that any debris can fall to the bottom of hole as you are applying fastener....but probably just the company outsourcing to a cheaper supplier. case in point, a metal roof I did approx. 2years ago, the heads on the exposed fasteners are popping off. Not good

    • @ourdreaminthewoods

    Just my opinion. But, I would really overthink spray foaming the whole house. Me personally it's a great idea but I would never do it. I watched a video of a young couple who had their own house built and spray foamed the whole thing. They have problems with moisture and smells and to me looks like a total disaster. Try to find more long term research on the spray foam product you are wanting to use. Just my opinion.

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  7 днів тому +2

      I appreciate your comment and concern. Thought about the moisture problem with spray foam quite a bit and feel like we have met our concerns.
      1) application of the spray foam from an experienced company that is locally trusted and has a good track record.
      2) conditions while the spray foam is applied- low humidity and timber moisture less than 16%
      3) Energy Recovery Ventilator system integrated into the heating/cooling system that regulates humidity within our conditioned space.
      But with all that - still worries me a bit. 😅
