We are pretty excited to have these walls with windows framed for the first bedroom! It's so nice to see what this space is going to look like! Can't wait to see the windows in there! Hope you enjoy this video! 😊
Pertaining to your latest video about your tap cons breaking off. After years of anchoring into concrete I’ve used 5/16”x 3” You only need 1 1/2” into the concrete. The most important part of drilling holes in concrete is to blow compressed air into the newly drilled hole. The drilled dust will fall back into the hole that you’ve just drilled leaving no room for the fasteners. You can over drill the hole, but make sure to use a shorter fastener. Good luck and keep making great videos.
Howdy y’all- you’re doing a good job with the framing. I’ve done so much framing in years past it got a little mundane but what you’re doing is definitely enjoyable. Having a challenge to figure out how just makes it that much more enjoyable. We’re getting some of that cold stuff way down here. Keep the fires burning and stay warm. God bless
@ The snow is gone except for around the edge of the woods where the sun doesn’t directly shine. Our kids in Florida got 10”. In places down there got 14”. Crazy weather. Blessings
Looking nice. You’re way ahead of me. Never had any classes, just school of hard knocks. I love watching and learning. Especially after you explain what you are going to do and then watch you do it. Thank you. God bless you and your family and working crew. Stay warm.
Awesome building skills you don’t give yourself enough credit for your skills - way over built it will be around for 100’s of years love your filming your explanation of the steps .
Everything is looking fantastic guys . The arctic air hasn’t been as bad as expected yet . Sat. Night going into Sunday and Monday might be colder here in western Montana . Beautiful place guys .
Hi, Joe- We have been putting a covering layer of what we call gray goop- adhesive sealant left over from the SIP panels. It provides a good barrier between the concrete and the bottom plate. 😁
Thinking you got a bad batch of screws that weren't tempered correctly. Make sure you drill beyond, air compressor and blow gun, re-drill the hole, second operation, with a new bit. If it straps out, just hammer it flush and call it good. It will still provide the lateral shear force required. Yes, numbers and dimensions. Good process and execution. Hybrid construction takes time but it's incredibly strong and will last generations when cared for. One tree at a time, one timber at a time, one stick of Lumber at a time= OUR DREAM IN THE WOODS. BEAUTIFUL STUFF.
For those measurements by yourself, my wife got me a Bosch glam100-23 laser measuring tool it's small and handheld. It's very precise, measures to a 32nd. Might get you one it really helps me.. it's less than $40..
It looks like you are getting some good advice. Blow dust out of hole and stop just short of compressing wood. These screws are very hard material and will break of. I like your attention to details. I will be 69 in March 2025. Now that I am retired, I have time to slow down and not rush projects. While I was working 12-hour days, I would rush projects and then not be happy with the outcome. Your understanding of 'WOOD' gives you an advantage on other carpenters. So many forget that even cut and kiln dried wood is constantly moving with the humidity around it. It might be perfectly straight today, but not tomorrow. I have two bad shoulders after working on cars for 50 years. I build two storage building on back patio. I found using a boat winch to help raise the walls and roof by myself. Good video.
Thanks for the comment and advice, Donald- I definitely need to do something different with those anchors. Shouldn’t be that hard. Boat winch is a great idea. 😊
The gray goop is not specifically a sill sealer. It’s an adhesive/sealer for the SIP panels. It’s pretty thick and tends to have some flexibility- even after a couple of days. Besides bonding the sips together it provides a blockage for air movement.
drill your holes for the anchors before you goop the board. slide the board away and lay the drill down flat and the fan on the drill will blow the dust out of the hole. then, goop the board, lay it down while aligning the holes and insert the anchors. easily done............g
Did you buy your barndominium as a kit, with the bents already prepped? If so, what company did you use? The reason I ask, i have seen one or two other buildings just like yours. Thanks for your help.
Hi, nope….we milled almost all of it on our sawmill. We used barn plans from @barngeek but, I do know that Jake Rosenfeld has a channel and is building, using a kit. And, his work is beautiful! Hope this helps! 😊

Just curious! Are the interior walls you are building now structural? Keep up the good work!
The tapcons you are having problems with are probably too long and dont have enough thread so if the smooth part exceeds the thicknes of 2×4 it cant thread into concrete so it snaps off
never had any problems using the 1/4"x2-3/4" tapcons mounting 2x material...maybe your bit it is wore out and not drilling the proper diameter hole (3/16") and are you over drilling so that any debris can fall to the bottom of hole as you are applying fastener....but probably just the company outsourcing to a cheaper supplier. case in point, a metal roof I did approx. 2years ago, the heads on the exposed fasteners are popping off. Not good
Enjoying the ride along. May ask why the annoying music? It is really loud and I have to keep adjusting the volume. If I had my choice, I would say no music, it is not your choice of music just see no need.
Hi, John- We haven’t gone to Greg talking over the Timelapse- not sure you want to hear him talk that much 😁 We’ll look at the volume of the music- thanks for your input.
I can hear your blade struggling. It’s either too dull and needs replacing or you are running a finish blade instead of a rip blade. Either puts a strain on your motor and motors are much more expensive. Just saying…
Just my opinion. But, I would really overthink spray foaming the whole house. Me personally it's a great idea but I would never do it. I watched a video of a young couple who had their own house built and spray foamed the whole thing. They have problems with moisture and smells and to me looks like a total disaster. Try to find more long term research on the spray foam product you are wanting to use. Just my opinion.
I appreciate your comment and concern. Thought about the moisture problem with spray foam quite a bit and feel like we have met our concerns. 1) application of the spray foam from an experienced company that is locally trusted and has a good track record. 2) conditions while the spray foam is applied- low humidity and timber moisture less than 16% 3) Energy Recovery Ventilator system integrated into the heating/cooling system that regulates humidity within our conditioned space. But with all that - still worries me a bit. 😅

If over thinking/over engineering was a sport, you guys would be gold mentalists winners at the Olympics.
Hi, Micah- Can’t argue with you on that.
I think we overthink things because we don’t have any experience. 😁
Just think of all the money you are saving, not having a gym membership. As always, brother, I'm impressed with your hard work.❤
Thank you, Shelley- You know me - not much of a gym guy 😁
I feel this is way better anyway!

Thank you for the advice, Tom- I’ll change up my routine and see what happens. 😊
Ok if you say you are not a framer you have me fooled that is excellent work this kind of quality is hard to find keep up that great work Sir
Thank you, Jim- we are into the fun part right now. 😊

Clear and cold up here.
Definitely fun putting these puzzles together. Take care! 😊

I love all of the light the big window gives. Can’t wait to see your tree in front of it next year! 🎄
Can’t wait for Christmas in this house! 🎄

Appreciate it- we definitely try to make it strong and lasting! 😊
You may not be paid to do the job, but your precision and quality of work is definitely professional, IMO.
Thanks- that is a very nice compliment. 😊
Thanks for taking us along
Thank you for always watching- we really appreciate it! 😊

Thank you- Arctic cold hasn’t been too bad - lows in the teens. But some nice sunny day!! 😊
Your class in the army is paying off!
Definitely! 😁
Loved the intro video!
Thank you, Matthew- There sure is something pretty special about our lake! 😊
It's amazing how many different tools you use in construction.
Hi, Terry- The tools have gotten so specialized nowadays. Most of them save you time and wear on your body. 😊
Did I miss seeing you put in sill seal or use pressure treated wood on the concrete slab??

Looking great. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Thank you, Thom- appreciate you watching! 😊
Nice teamwork on the window frame!
Thank you, we really like how they turned out! 😊
Tenho acompanhado a construção e está a cada dia mais bonita. Você é muito caprichoso. Parabéns! Um forte abraço do Brasil 🎉
Thank you, Tina- Big hugs from North Idaho!!! 😊
Beautiful view!
Thanks! We are lucky to have this view. 😊

I have had mixed results with laser distance measuring tools. If you find one that works well, it is really helpful when working by yourself.
Funny you say that- the spray foam guy was just out and that’s what he used. On my list! Thanks, Jimmy! 😁

Hi, Mike- The spray foam guy’s seemed to work very well and it was a Bosch brand.
Great drone shot to start things off. My favorite! 😊
Thank you- so lucky to have our beautiful lake! 😊
@ absolutely!

Is the gray goop you are talking about a sill sealer between bottom plate and concrete? Concrete will suck moisture out of wood, even treated wood
The gray goop is not specifically a sill sealer. It’s an adhesive/sealer for the SIP panels. It’s pretty thick and tends to have some flexibility- even after a couple of days. Besides bonding the sips together it provides a blockage for air movement.
You are doing a fine job
Thank you! 😊
Are you going to insulate for sound as well as heat ?
Yes, we plan on insulating for sound in select walls and ceiling. 😊

The walls are not structural with regards to down force but they should be structural with regards to shear force. 😊
The tapcons you are having problems with are probably too long and dont have enough thread so if the smooth part exceeds the thicknes of 2×4 it cant thread into concrete so it snaps off
I will have to take a closer look at that.
Thank you for the advice. 😊

That sounds like a nightmare with the heads popping off! How do you get the rest of the screw out?
@@ourdreaminthewoods haven't crossed that bridge yet and it is on a 12/12 roof.
