  • In this episode Mason and three riders head from Dorset to Romania, and back again, in search of the Transfagarasan DN7C Highway in the Carpathian Mountains, Romania. The bikes for this trip are our formidable Yamaha Tenere 700 and KTM890 Adventure R.
    The expected route will take us on sections of the Trans European Trail "TET" consisting of easy gravel sections, high altitude mountain passes with mud, snow and ice, as well as lower level lake and river sections. We also ride some spectacular race track style roads in the mountains with huge twist back corners and views bigger than you can imagine. The route starts at Calais in France, then south towards Lake Annecy in the foothills of the French Alps. Then we head East through the Italian Alps to Slovenia. Followed by a South Easterly direction into Croatia, Hungary and Romania. We have packed all the gear to remain completely nomadic, which means we can travel, eat and sleep wherever we want to. Masons tent is the Vango Halo Pro 200, his sleeping mats are the Exped Down filled and the Vango Trek Pro 3. Why two sleeping mats? Well that's simply because it's ultra comfortable, and the most important thing about travelling, is a good nights sleep. Both of the mats pack away small enough too, so its a winner when carrying all your gear.
    On a couple of occasions we did use Air B&B as well as Booking.com to find an affordable house or hotel as a special treat, after all everyone likes a treat on holiday. But most of all we camped, and this we did by simply looking on Google around 2pm everyday, which means by 4pm we were ready to stop and set up the campsite and cook dinner. This in turn gives you a huge amount of flexibility when travelling, and best of all you meet complete strangers in each country, the world is full of kind people so get out there and explore.

      Thanks 👍 no I didn’t gpx the route, although I did create some way points in the Garmin XT based on the rough direction of travel before leaving the UK, and then just headed in a rough Easterly direction, planning each days route over breakfast etc

    I wonder how many people bought this bike on the back of Motorcycle Adventures.

    Fantastic video guys, just a quick question I’ve just bought the Tenere 700 world raid and mounted the Garmin Zumo, XT I’m getting quite a lot of vibration and wobble on the GPS can you recommend the moment to prevent this? Thanks paul

    • @masonsruggedroads
      @masonsruggedroads  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Paul… I’ve mounted the Garmin using the short RAM Mount which also has a rubber/plastic insert to reduce vibration. I’ll try and find a link and post it here in a bit

    • @masonsruggedroads
      @masonsruggedroads  Рік тому

      Here you go Paul… this is what I use, but make sure you have the collar and fixing plate that came with the Garmin, this allows you to connect it up to the RAM mount

    Any gpx files to share for your route?

    • @masonsruggedroads
      @masonsruggedroads  6 місяців тому +1

      Sorry to say that I don’t have any gpx files. All of my trips are planned around pin drops or waypoints on my gps, for places and mountain tracks that look interesting. For instance the Col du Sommellier or Mont Jafferau can be found on google maps and then stored in a gps ready for any trip, that’s the kinda thing I do
