Excellent video. I have a 2005 SC430 with the same transmission that won't shift into reverse on cold starts unless I rev it to about 4000RPM. I'm thinking of just swapping the transmission, but I'm doing research first. Thanks for the video.
If it is only on cold starts you either have a valve sticking in the valve body or the rubber seals for the piston are getting hard. When it warms up they will swell back up. Thanks for watching.
My car's transmission (A650e- 1999 Lexus Ls400) acts up intermittently. One morning, it engaged in 1st gear and reverse without issue. Later, it wouldn't reverse after a brief stop for breakfast. Even after a long rest at work, it still wouldn't engage in reverse. However, after driving for an hour back home, it worked fine. This pattern occurs twice a week. Occasionally, it hesitates to move forward in the morning, requiring revving and waiting before engaging in 1st gear. It sometimes acts normal for the whole week. The diagnostic code consistently shows p0500.
I have the same problem with my 99 Lexus LS400. (A guy mentioned about his SC430) I plan to rebuild the transmission, and I hope it will solve the problem. Is it necessary to replace the pistons? Thank you so much for the video!
I have the same problem as SC430 above and it also won't be engaged after an hour of driving. What do you think the problem is? I plan to study your video and rebuild my transmission. Many thanks for your video! @@CurmudgeonTransmission
Doing research for my 2002 IS300 that suddenly started slipping on upshift into 3rd. I was hoping it was a solenoid, but talking to a friend that used to rebuild transmissions, it sounds like a dead clutch pack. Watching your videos, I think rebuilding a transmission has got to be the most complicated job you can do on a car. I'm also thinking I should be thankful to have gotten 280k miles without having to rebuild the transmission. I still enjoyed watching your disassembly and rebuild. I'll just take my care to a transmission shop.
OMG I have a GS300 with a level 10 transmission A650e pushing 619hp. And my transmission won't pass second gear recently at one point it didn't want to shift at all. The tranny only has 5K miles and about 300 miles were hard miles And I don't have the money to buy a new one. I thinking of a rebuilding the tranny and this video show up. THANK YOU for the VIDEO. By any chance do you know all the resisting ohms # on all the solenoids in the A650e? Thank you again!
saying your not gonna give your rattle clip away when its part of the rebuild and therefore paid by customer cause im sure they want it done right. And these are bullet proof transmissions yet second rebuild maybe that alone should say you may want that clip in there.
I was just meaning after being second rebuild my luck it would burn 1st up for the 3rd time and get blamed for something like that. I've never left any out but any co mechanic ive seen do a rebuild haven't stressed over them. I just started learning automatic rebuilds 2 yrs ago. Glade you make these videos and replied keep up the good work!!!
@@CurmudgeonTransmission I meant to put this in in the comment before, but forgot the a650e ls430 sc430 and gs430 01-04 have different valve body layout than IS, GS and SC98-00 models. 300 series have different bell house valve body and overdrive output shaft. gs also had a650e till 2005
There is a retainer around the shaft over by the rooster comb. There is a notch in it. Turn it until you can see the roll pin. Drive the roll pin out and then all the linkage will come out. Throw the retainer away when you get it off. The roll pin will not fall out, it is not needed.
My transmission slightly slips in every gear and shifts hard into reverse only when cold. After warming up there isn’t any sign that the transmission would be bad. Also, after a 5 hour trip the transmission leaked a big puddle of fluid. The fluid is red and looks good on dipstick. Is it worth trying to rebuild the valve body only? Just looking at different options, rather try to rebuild my own than source a used transmission.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission only code is for safety neutral switch, i think other gs300 owners have had this code though. It is slipping, it kind of engages the gear erratically and then you have to go slow otherwise the engine revs but car doesn't move faster. But, normal shifting after warming up.

That rattle clip is not a big issue. I have seen plenty without them. It will not cause an issue.

How do you remove the manual valve lever shaft?

Are you sureit is slipping or maybe it is just shifting a little late? Any codes?
