    The famous landings on the beaches of Normandy started Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of German-occupied France. Winning this crucial battle gave the Allies a foothold from which to start pushing back the Nazis and turning the tide of WWII. Find out more here 👉 www.sabaton.net/historical-facts/d-day-landings/

    80 years ago tonight my grandfather climbed into a C-47. A 20 year old man with a new daughter, he served with distinction in D Company 2/506 PIR. His 19 year old brother was a tanker, one of the few that made it ashore from the 4th Infantry in the first waves the next day on Utah beach. Both men returned home to their families and quiet lives. We will never see their like again.

      My great grandfather Bill was a pilot of a Lancaster in one of his night raids I’m not sure when but my grandmother knows he and his co pilot had their parachutes strapped to them that night. During the mission they were attacked by a German fighter causing an explosion that blew the pilots out of the plane they were alive the rest of the crew in plane fell to earth all of whom sadly perished Bill landed safely in the backyard of a German family. He said they were nice but had to call the police. He was taken to a pow camp where he and the pows felt they were living on ‘borrowed time’ they attempted to dig their way out and discreetly got rid of the soil by holding it in their trousers and slowly releasing it into the yard. There is actually a movie about this The Great Escape I think it’s called. I can’t remember if he escaped or If the war ended first but he ended up surviving the war walking all the way home and going on to have a daughter (my grandmother) but sadly he died while testing a plane for the RAF when it malfunctioned and he lost control and crashed. My great grandmother who I got to see until I was six re married and had my mom’s uncle who is currently beside me because I’m doing manual labour for him and aunt who is sadly passed. Your grandfather was a brave man much respect to him I wish you and your family well.

This marked a key turning point in WW2, where the German forces began to retreat, and the liberation of the West could begin. We should all remember that this was a team effort, that would never have been possible to achieve alone; This War was the most devastating in Human history and it must never be repeated on such a scale ever again.

      @@Goofyahhhhhhhhhhhhh69420 I have no intention of starting a discussion or a debate bro, so just gonna point that;
      1- search "squat 201" A.K.A the "Aztec eagles" and how good the fight agains the Japanese (59 missions )
      2- If u refer to the D-Day I admit you´re right, mexican participation was pretty low however, there was a lot of volunteers, for example (taken from internet)
      "Luis Pérez Gómez (1922-1944), who enlisted as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force, participating in various missions during the Normandy landings" and my own grandfather (whom luckily made it back home)

    Lyrics: Check
    Imagery: check
    It's got everything. I honestly didn't realize that we were missing this, but here we are. I've just one thing: F4U fighter planes (as identified by a the gul wing shape and general appearance) did not see action over D-day, at least to my knowledge. Also: burned out T-34 at Normandy in the first shot? Definitely not. One of your best songs and one of the best lyric videos, despite these glaring issues.
    Bless what y'all are doing, bringing history to life through heavy metal.
