While I like a few warbles and bangs, this really seems too excessive to me. If you're basically cruising then it just sounds like there's something seriously wrong with your car.
I know APR released a pops and bangs tune in their v2.6 update for the MK7 GTI and R, but is this tune different to that file? I don’t remember them releasing such a tune that pops so much? I get around 3-5 pops per downshift and when I blip the throttle at high rpm.. Is this available at all APR dealers now? What’s the file code/name/version? Got a feeling this file may harm the turbo in the long run....
Just traded in my BRZ for a 2016 GTI SE DSG that has a Stratified Auto tune and a bunch of other mods. Love the pops! Gonna watch all your GTI vids as I’m a little obsessed with the car haha.
can you kinda turn it on and off? cuz after a while this pops and bangs shit gets supper annoying, in a cruise for example, I wouldn't want all that literally all the time
@@NewEnglandPete that's a good bit. I just priced out my build for my TT and it's around 6k, tuned for 450 but capable of 600. But that's doing all the work myself. Nice to know how to do all your own work
Okay, here goes nothing. "They are all seasons, and all seasons suck. If you drive a performance oriented car and you don't live at an altitude where there's a snow risk all year round, then buy some summer tires, ya chav. Tires are the only thing connecting all your performance mods to the road. You'd have to be stupid to spend money on a warbly downpipe, or especially mounts, suspension or brakes before upgrading grip.
Pete, did you select Normal or Aggressive when doing the pops and bangs at tuning? I have the previous version of APR Stage 2 and watching your other video about living with it much later, does this version of Stage 2 ACTUALLY perform slower for you? Thanks!
Aggressive Pops & Bangs, and it’s hard to tell. I definitely spin less, but I also notice that there is less torque. Overall I say it’s not slower, simply because I can actually hook.
NewEnglandPete So I went and got it done! Aggressive pops too, they sound way better than the previous version default pops and bangs for sure, much more consistent. I did notice the drop in torque. Around 2500-3500rpm, you used to be at full boost and torque, and I’d get a ALOT of turbo flutter, now it’s not as fluttery - but the power doesn’t seem to be lacking at all - definitely much more capable of keeping the power on the ground instead of slinging it behind the front tires as they spin uncontrollably! I use Indy500 tires and no traction/esp, so I was able to notice a significant increase in the ‘pin you in the seat’ feeling. Overall, I too think it drives better. Not as torque’y, but definitely quicker.
NewEnglandPete also! Dunno if you know this from the previous tune, but it’s carried over to the new one. If you tap accel, shift down, tap accel, real quick, it’ll do a super aggressive during the gear change - it’s designed to pump boost for the exit of a corner so you can fly out real quick. If you do that and instead of tapping on shift down, floor it - once the gear is engaged you’ll be at full boost and ready to SEEEEEE YA
I believe you can also hold down the traction control button for a like 5 seconds or something, it’ll say traction control off at first but keep holding it until a second message pops up. I think that’s ECS though
when full let off after full throttle it almost sounds like a blow off valve instead of a diverter. Correct me if wrong, but you're still running stock DV? And we have a pretty similar setup, sans exhaust and mileage
I'm curious what the difference is between the aggressive and non-aggressive pops/bangs sounds like. Will be getting mine upgraded tomorrow. darn long code!
The turbo flutter (TUTUTUTU), is caused from a closed throttle compressor surge. I have a stock DV, and BOV. Just an APR Intake to an APR Inlet pipe. As far as the difference between aggressive and non-aggressive pops... I am unsure. It appears I am the only person who has media coverage of this new tune and I wish some people posted some of their feedback of the different tunes. As of now, the car is a lot more driveable with pops on and I greatly enjoy the overall feel.
NewEnglandPete I’ll be going with the aggressive until I see otherwise. I’ve been doing a lot of research on turbo compressor surge, and I believe that’s why APR went with a less peaky/boost tune and went with a more linear, albeit, less torque tune (like unitronic surprisingly). I can’t wait to see what it’s like tomorrow. I’m not a huge videographer, but plan to try and do my best to capture tomorrow’s upgrade and try to post it.
Ham Sammich ok, let me see if I can answer all of this: Yes, I was on the previous Stage 2 tune with & without pops and bangs. Updated with version 2 of Stage 2 w/pops & bangs. Less peak-y torque, but is much more manageable and more linear. The car doesn’t want to roast the tires instantly at 2300+ rpm. Car pulls a little more up in the higher rpm, but the IS20 turbo still doesn’t have the gusto to pull all the way to redline. Pops/bangs are more random and a lot of the lag has been removed from downshifts (DSG), but still needs more of it removed.
UnderGround Street Scene I have too but when you feather the gas basicaly you make more pop longer i mean i have manual that’s why i feather it to make it longer too
Absolutely! I have a 1.8t Passat from 02 (3 inch downpipe and unitronic stage II) you will need to get a specific tune for bangs like these) I had an exhaust dump a while ago and it would burble pop mildly.
Hi! I have the APR app and the APR adapter, it says my gti has the stage 2 (98 octane) how do I get the pops and bangs? Do I need to go anywhere or could I get the pops and bangs online?
@@robertmcgee3616 I have the updated tune w/ aggressive pops and bangs as well. He seems to be really egging on the pops in this video by letting the revs fall quite slowly. It's not that bad in person and is pretty controllable.

this is MUCH more bearable than the last crackle tune though!
My understanding is that it only bangs during sport mode correct?
Just an update I went stage 2 APR, only bangs in sports mode
Yea to aggressive for me. Maybe 2-3 secs of pops for me

With all the mods you have done, how much have you spent + labor cost? And how many hp and torque are we looking at here at the wheels?
Around $7500 including labor. Should be expecting at LEAST 310hp to the wheels and 360lb/ft.
