Great video! You saved me a ton of trouble. Thanks so much!
Glad this helped you out
Good camera work, and that tip about removing the seal with the end of the axle is great. Thanks!
Thanks for watching Frank!
@@HomeownerRepair is there a way to do the bearing and seal without messing with the differential?
Will be doing this job on an 09 Ranger next week. Thanks for the video. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
I dont know where you guys are from, but all my uncles are from Plymouth and this made me miss them so much.
Thanks for watching
Where did you find the seal because I've bought 3 and the od of the seal is always too big
You should be able to find it at RockAuto.com
Any video involving Ford Ranger, I have a 2008 2.3 would be appreciated!! Thanks
You should be able to apply the basic steps show in this video to your truck. You may have a few different things but it should be close. Leave the other side together so if you forget where a spring or brake shoe goes you can go over an reference it.
Thank you for the information. Great video.
Thanks for watching
I have a similar one with a noise from the rear axle, any idea what that noise could be coming from
Hard to say, what kind of noise is it?
@@HomeownerRepair Humming sound change with speed low to high really annoying
would this seal be what needs replacing to fix a differential fluid leak at the wheel? provided the axle isnt worn down
It that axle seal is worn you may have some differential fluid leak out of it.
That's how to change the seals on THAT rear axle. There are several more rear axles out there that include 7.5" ring gears and you don't have to go to nearly half the trouble you show in this video for a few of them. You should adjust your description to say, "This video will show you how to change seals on ONE of the rear axles available for 1998-2012 Ford Ranger"... Signed, A PROFESSIONAL MASTER TECH.
Thanks for watching
Is this a 4x2 with a limited slip differential , thank you .
Hope this has helped you out.
Does the drum need to be disassembled to change the axle seals?
You would have to remove the brake components as shown in the video to gain access to the seals. If you watch the video you should be all set. Hope this helps you out.
Hi two small gears dropped when changing the axle on a 2006 cord ranger. How do I put gears back in place? I have one in but the other can’t seem get back in place can you help me?
Sorry just saw this
Does this apply in a 2001 Mazda truck B4000 4.0L?
Thanks!
Great video Homeowner!!!
It may be the same or a similar process. Hope this helps you out. Thanks for watching our auto repair video.
Is there a seal inside the interior like next to the spider gear? Or is there only the one seal on the outside that you did in the video?
Just the one shown in the video.
Good information. Thanks.
You're welcome
Great job. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Can you do a video on a 1998 Ford rear transmission seal replacement
We;ll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to perform this repair.
how much gear oil would i need to buy to fill it up? just one quart? or a little more.
Takes just about 3 quarts
Thanks for watching
I have an 08 Ranger. My issue is that the left side axle moves in and out. The seal is not leaking, no odd noises, but I feel like it should not move in and out of the rear diff assembly. Any ideas what I should check? Is it the differential pin? It seems there should be almost no side to side movement when everything is correct.
It just moves maybe 1/16 to 1/8 inch.
its normal
Sorry just saw this
The pin doesn't slide out on a 2002 Ranger with 7.5 inch ring gear. The ring gear obstructs the pin. So now what?
Did you get this resolved?
I got a question I’m up against! How do you know if there 9 inch brakes or 10 inch brake pads.? Does a 2002 Ford ranger xlt 4x4 have 2 different sizes? Advanced auto is like clueless of what size.. they tell me match them up! Ok who’s the say the previous mechanic put on the wrong shoes! I have a 4.0 engine in mine if that makes a difference...
You may want to bring one with you to the parts store so they can match it up. Hope this helps you out.
@@HomeownerRepair thank you for the reply.. I did today buy both sets and put them in the drum and the 9 inch was skinner And the ten inch was perfect putting them in side of the drum... And I have to say between a 9 inch brake versus a 10 inch brake pad is like half the size... Thanks again for this response..
So the 10 was good. ? I have an 03 xlt 4x4. And I believe all 4x4 are 10. ?? So I've read online.
