Fantastic information. Opacity is something we all need to keep in mind as painters. It is a huge factor in my color choices for my Dutch Pours. Thank you for sharing.
@@LeftBrainedArtist If you do side by side comparisons, please make a video doing so. I think it would help people a lot thinking through that technique.
You are so awesome I am learning so much from you ‼️‼️‼️Thanks again David I am going to do this with my Paint..I would like to have you show in a teaching vedio with a painting.. David I can't believe what books leave out..You surpassed everyone in my world..I do enjoy being able to turn on your vedios and I know I am going to enjoy and learn ‼️
When I painted watercolours I made swatch cards of every colour listing their pigments, opacity, granulation etc. I may do the same with my acrylics. The sheets are great.
I love all your experiments because I struggle sometimes with colors and your explanations of everything HELPS so much....thank you for everything you do..
This explains a lot. I still use Artist Loft level 1. & never check opacity. & seldom use black. Several reasons. 1) I like bright colors 2) I like happy colors 3) black always takes over everything! Now I know why. I feel like I should have figured this out by now. 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you
Great video - and uncanny timing. [Instead of doing my homework,] I spent this morning creating a similar chart - not knowing you'd done it for us! Thanks for your hard work, and to the link to Sandrine Maugy's video, which I'm looking forward to watching.
I really like Jamie Created That’s work. I watch her closely. It has an elegant feel to me. Could you emulate her work? I know you show many techniques. Nothing against a bloom or Dutch pour. Thanks.
@@catherineedwardsclemment5327 I have quite few videos on straigh pours. It looks like she is using slightly thicker paint to get more color depth and moving (travelling) rather than staying in the center.
@@LeftBrainedArtist I enjoy your videos as well. Guilty video streaming, but I am learning so much to this new medium to me. Your videos soften the blow of wrecking a piece of work even though learning by doing. Thank you again for your enthusiasm of painting and teaching!
Did you do a test on varnishes to seal the finished painting? I’m debating whether to use ordinary furniture varnish or artist’s varnish, which is more expensive. I would greatly appreciate your advice on this matter. 🌺
Another very useful video. Thanks so much. I tried to get the chart and subscribe to the newsletter but the thing refused to believe I was a person and after the 12th annoying selection picture I gave up. I hate those things ;-(
Good lesson. I use Liquitex Basics. I've purchased over a dozen colors and I've only seen 'opaque' and 'semi-opaque'. Either Liquitex Basics doesn't have 'transparent' or I just managed to not purchase any. I'll check next time I go to buy paints. Question: Is 'semi-opaque' the same thing as 'semi-transparent'?
No. If the company calls it out they are using the 4 section scale (opaque, semi-opaque, semi-transparent, transparent) instead of a 3 section scale (opaque, semi-transparent, transparent). I don't think knowing exactly what a paint is is too beneficial but understanding what they are relative to the other paints you use is important.
I’m struggling with my COLORS.. You always seem to pick just the right ones. I’ve seen a color wheel beside you sometimes. I wish you would make a video and tell us how to read it. How can I know that the colors won’t end up in MUD?! 😩 Love❣️/Cattis

Nice demo! The transparent plastic sheets makes it obvious how transparency affects color. 👍
Yes it does! Love a good visual aide.
Thanks so much for the video and pdf, I can’t wait to go home and “test” all my paints.
You are so welcome Ash.
Thanks for the shout out :) I'm glad you enjoyed my video. It was interesting watching your tests :)
You are more than welcome. Thanks for making a great video to send my viewers to.
WOW, DAVID, AGAIN, THANK YOU VERY, VERY, VERY MUCH. MY BEST WISHES, GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS FROM 🇲🇩.
Same to you!

So true! I need to do some side by side comparisons on dutch pours. So many little things change the outcome a ton there.

My pleasure Sandra.
Great explanations and love the chart David!!! A lot of beginners don't understand but I believe you made it easy to understand...Bravo!
Thanks Donna. I'm a process and procedure type of guy so having guide to follow really helps my brain process something like this.

I feel like that every time I use a new set of colors. Keep on moving forward is all we can do.
I love the examples you used, and as always you touch on areas that are very useful. 👍☺💕.
Thanks Shannon. In this case my viewers kept asking the same question so it was time for a video.

Is anyone having problems downloading the opacity pdf?? I keep getting stuck on verifying that I am not a robot. :(
