How medal event is judged:
1 heat of 8 athletes participating in a 20 minute jam session taking as many runs as possible within the time frame. Best trick wins, ranked 1-8. Judges will rank competitors throughout the contest.

Hey ESPN, maybe next year consider not building the world's biggest dirt jumps right next to a kitesurfing beach? The announcers spent half their mic time talking about the wind as if it was some act of god that couldn't be avoided. What a massive planning failure. If you're set on doing it right on the Cali coast, then find a closed arena with no weather inside.

@@TOjoe1strow right? That one pocket corner had everybody casing it (and Sandoval casing it with his hip). At first I thought maybe the transition was bad, but then I realized that was probably just a wind hotspot.
I miss the old x games. Made for the athletes not the venue. This is kinda dumb and ridiculously dangerous. Not fun dangerous. Make us money at your expense dangerous.

I remember when Helicopter on big air was massive. Progression in last 10 years is insane
Several years in a row now that Dirt and Dirt Best Trick have been the best events. R Willy seems like an all around friggin awesome dude. You can see it in his UA-cam videos, how he cheers the other riders on, he always reminds people to "check on your mates", and he always seems to be having a blast.
Seems like no one does the cash roll correctly anymore. These are just 720s for the most part with a little fake head tuck.

Ryan is next level. I was hoping he would pull the backflip body flip with the front bike flip. I don't know the actual name of it. But that thing is next level.
I mean, so is a double flip 360 look back.
It's called a "Free Willy" and it's insane. Supposedly took him about one thousand tries to land once to resi, so I don't expect him to bust it out on dirt anytime soon, let alone a comp.
@@allenroughton true. I was wondering if he brings double backflip 720. But it is probably tough for X games dirt. He occasionally lands it in Nitro Circus shows. Sadly there is no BMX megapark this year. I would love to see some front flair 540s 😄

I was also hoping he was gonna do that weird body flip bike flip he's been practicing. This trick was still cool but a bit underwhelming...looks like the others. I thought sandival would do a triple decade or some double variation too.

There were no 1440s in this comp. And the trick *has* been done on a BMX bike before.
@MattHooverDotCom I didn't say there was a 1440 done in this video. At that timestamp, they were talking about it, saying the first one was done last year, but that's not true. It might have been the first 1440 on a bmx but Nicolai rogatkin did it on a mountain bike quite a few years before that in 2017 at redbull district ride

I miss when the X-Games was something that was like a big deal. If you rode BMX, you watched the X-Games regardless and if they came to your city (Philly) You Go! But the dude with Scotty is a terrible commentator and I would LOVE to have his job as I know I would crush commentating a BMX comp. Also I understand that circus tricks equal ratings. But MAKE THE DIRT COURSE LIKE TRAILS AGAIN. Even in like the 1998 X-Games there were transfers and two lines. Boring looking jumps, huge but stock. I want to see an interesting Dirt Course since I know the builders dig at real trails so this has to be someone at ESPN's call. Its a mistake, im glad you brought Dirt back from the dead (idk why you cancelled it to begin with) but make these courses interesting so real trail riders can ride, and these trick ferrets can do their Nitro Virus run's on like a real set of trails.
